Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

If the FED GOVT told me hey, you are still employed and do not qualify, I would have no problem with that. The stimulus package was not designed that way though. I am totally in favor of the dollars going to people who have lost their jobs lining up for unemployment. My Aunt is unemployed now and my wife and I have discussed helping out family that have lost their jobs. I am in favor of aid because many do need the money.
why do they need the money unless your story of everyone being taught was useless? Why worry about it when the govt will bail you out? That's the important lesson

Yes. I would say the worst of all options would be... Lockdown. (You are here) Lift lockdown. See a bunch of people get infected and die, resume lockdown. Stay locked for way longer this time.

The consequences of that are so profound that I think riding out the initial plan for a few more weeks is easily our best option.

Yes, certainly your plan is easily the best

I didn’t have any input as to our current course, but thank you for drastically overestimating my sphere of influence.

I would say it presents the least risk as of today. We’ve already sustained the economic damage. We’ve already passed the stimulus. We can make it a few more weeks.

Open things back up and realize it was the wrong move and the lockdown starts over with a brand new timer that’s going to be longer than the first one.

Useless for some yes. I have money put aside for a time like this, so the message from my parents resonated. BTW, I am pretty confident that many people do not get taught this lesson.

The economic damage did not peak and hit a wall. There are millions of businesses that are still trying to hang on. Every day added just clips more off. It's like holding your breath, some people can last longer, but everyone has a limit.

Are you claiming "lots get taught" or "many don't get taught" how to save money? You're all over the place

Some people. I guess it was my fault in thinking that many households like mine growing up had parents that gave them good financial advice. Sorry to have confused you.

So everyone stays in, you crash the economy, then everyone goes back two months later, and still gets sick.

Or...

Expose the healthy people, suffer more initial deaths, mostly the elderly who were higher likelihood to pass to begin with, but ultimately close to the same number, but don't crash the economy. Kids get school, families keep their jobs and homes, small businesses don't close. Crisis is over with by Summer as herd immunity is achieved faster. The only additional risk is hospitals being overwhelmed which was an overstated problem based on poor comparisons and models.

I understand and have considered the closing of businesses and loss of jobs. I own a business that just finished its first ever month in the red and appears it will shatter that negative number this month. I also have a lot of employees that are feeling this.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree, because my previous points apply to this argument as well. There’s risk to businesses no matter which move we make from here.

Parents with school age children are at virtually no risk and they can manage the interaction with grandparents just as they are doing now.

So I guess all those grandparents that provide after school or weekend care while the parents work are just disposable🤦‍♀️

Sure that might have happened. Be nice if we’d had another country that had played out that scenario successfully before we tried it out.

No way. We've got Billy badasses that won't do a damn thang they're told to do and will drive around in their gas guzzling trucks just for spite. Lulz.

Because I laugh about that it automatically means I'm hiding under my bed like I've been told to do instead of being somewhere in the middle.
I drive around in my gas guzzling V-8 and I don't wear a mask at the grocery store. Suck it China Flu!

We should have let mother nature take its course and cull the herd. That way Ill be jet skiing this summer with zero regrets.

There's Sweden. That's why the media/universities are waging war with them. Thank God Trump blasted them. They hate Trump so much I think they might actually stick with it through the steep curve.
