Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Stupid Nigerians. Don't they know not to listen to Trump. Can you think on anyone else that was touting it as an approved treatment.
US President Donald Trump claimed at a White House briefing last week that the Food and Drug Administration had approved the "very powerful" drug chloroquine to treat coronavirus.

"It's shown very encouraging -- very, very encouraging early results. And we're going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately. And that's where the FDA has been so great. They -- they've gone through the approval process; it's been approved. And they did it"
However, the FDA after the briefing issued a statement saying it had not approved the drug for use against Covid-19 and is still studying its effectiveness against the disease.

Stupid Nigerians , how dumb does one have to be / how much does one have to consume , in order to OD on a product that’s decades old and is safe to give to children , pregnant and nursing mothers that the CDC states has no limits on how long it can be used ?

Yep..... I’m so ready to get out of this house..... go watch my son baseball.... cheer my daughter’s travel basketball team
The loss of the spring sports season is but one of the many pissers.
My son was just getting into the meat of his track season, and it was shaping up to be a good one.

He gave an optimistic outlook..... the FDA said they had been to pushed to hurry through tests and dr Fauci said that it showed promise but he wanted to make sure it was safe.... I guess you hear what you want to hear.
Based on the ODs in Nigeria, it doesn't sound too promising now does it?

My grandparents house is a mile or so further down Chapman highway, off of Old Sevierville Hwy to the left if you're headed away from town. Right before the Pixie (used to be anyway ) I grew up eating soft serve ice cream from there all the time. My grandparents were a member of a big swimming pool up by your grandparents house...we used to always go there on 4th of July if we werent at Myrtle Beach when I was a little dude. Good times. Some of the best memories of my life. My Pappaw retired from TVA as well downtown. He worked there a little over 20 years, after 26 years in the USAF. God rest his soul

Go Vols

There was a kid my age a couple houses down. We were within walking distance to that pool cutting thru the end of the subdivision. Been there several times. Heck our grandfathers could have been at TVA same time. But mine retired probably early 80's. Best I can recall, he was 85 range in 2000 when he died. He was also a retired Navy Cpt. Ceebee in the pacific. The subdivision used to have community picnics like at the 4th all the way in the back in the last cul de sac. We'd go occasionally if there at right time. They had couple families in same subdivision that were close friends. they always trout fished with us. Dan Cobble and his pipe. for some reason that man always fascinated me. Cool old dude I guess. My dad taught my granddad trout fishing up in citico when he started dating my mom. Grandpa loved taking us when we came up. It was a thing. always thought he was the master trout fisherman. Dad never said a word. He just let the bond happen. Didn't know till late teen years that he's the one who taught my grandpa. Great memories though like you said. too many to list, most just little things.

From what I read 3 people decided to self medicate on the philosophy of .. if one is good , the whole thing must be better .
It's idiotic to question the effectiveness of a drug because a few people didn't read the label. It's sometimes awe-inspiring to see the logic that's produced when raw emotion completely supplants rationality.

I don't think the people that OD were children, pregnant or nursing mothers. Did the CDC say it was acceptable treatment for coronavirus because your post suggest it is safe?

What does "overdose" mean? These deaths say nothing about its effectiveness against coronavirus, and nothing about its safety, if taken as prescribed.

It’s decades old and is safe for consumption in the gold standards for safety .. pregnant and or nursing mothers . The CDC itself states there is no limit on how long it can be used . You can’t give a nursing mother aspirin but you can give her Chloroquine. Which goes back to my original question .. how dumb does one have to be to OD on it ?

Yes. I agree. As testing increases, it can give the false impression that cases increase, when it just may be showing that we've been living with this for quite some time with no end to society.

This.

My tracking of actual daily new COVID-19 cases in U.S. and projections.
3/1 = 7
3/5 = 63
3/10 = 290
3/15 = 737
3/18 = 2848
3/19 = 4530
3/20 = 5594 (5522 median predicted)
3/21 = 4824 (6771 was the predicted median so hopefully we are seeing a rate fall)
3/22 = 9359 (9650 median predicted)

Coronavirus Update (Live): 351,733 Cases and 15,372 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Outbreak - Worldometer

Predicted New Case Ranges ran on 3/19

3/23 12,200 - 14,900
3/24 17,000 - 20,800
3/25 23,600 - 28,800

We have 3 straight days where the new cases are close to or under the trend line median I calculated on 3/19, but only one of those days seemed statistically significant. Even small victories have a great cumulative effect though as you can see below.

Predicted new Case Ranges Today

3/23 10, 600 - 13,000
3/24 15,000 - 18,300
3/25 20,700 - 25,300

From here on out, I think testing may become even more of a problem. Many research institutions who have tried to make their own tests have found that the necessary reagents are not available, and these will need to be produced by industry sources which are just now retooling to that task.

The other issue is that we have consumed nearly a quarter million tests to find 32K positives. When we are at the point in the pandemic where we have more new cases than our current total cases, then we probably don't have the capacity to run the needed tests.

So, as bad as our surveillance is now it is going to get worse. As of now, the testing data we do have is fairly broad and representative across the entire country. It looks very consistent with the current models that think we had a small number of cases in late January and not 10s of thousands.

Testing data to date is here.

And lots of kids still don’t get diagnosed. School systems fight having them diagnosed and so do lots of doctors. I had a family member as a teacher fight to get a kid diagnosed so he could get the help he needed, all while the school guidance counselor obstructed everything saying he was perfectly fine. The boy’s mother thanked my relative for her help because the mother knew he had major issues and it was always blown off.

With all the tests in TN coming out negative, I’ve had strong suspicions they aren’t accurate. The positive side to that is that if there are that many people that possibly have it and aren’t hospitalized then we are going to be ok.
