Coronavirus (No politics)

Do you trust that the Chinese government dutifully self-reported this is a timely fashion? If not, then there is a very real possibility this has already been out. And it apparently wasn't from eating bats. It was from a test lab in that city.

No I don’t but in a general sense deadly pandemics don’t go unnoticed in populations. In other words, it is implausible to believe that a deadly virus could infect a population for months without leading to hundreds/thousands of deaths. It is very likely that China has been lying the entire time and it is much deadlier than originally thought.

What the increase testing will show is how much closer the death rate is to the actual flu. The media will highlight the “new number” of confirmed cases to keep the panic going however.
You’re probably right, but I don’t want the flu either. I would like for people to be respectful of others health, the flu and other viruses run rampant now. I hope you’re right and it’s all overblown, but it might also show that if people did stay home and isolate during other illnesses, things like the flu wouldn’t kill or have the negative effects that they do. I said in another thread, that people will skip things like work, school, or church if they absolutely can. But many will not skip concerts, ball games, movies, or going to Walmart.

I never said it was about Dem/Reb. But yes there are wealthy socialist elites all over the world that would love to knock the U.S. down a peg and turn the U.S. into another socialist failure and unfortunately the Democrats would too. The easiest way is thru healthcare. Trillions have now been lost in 401k’s and such which includes retirees. The administration has no choice at this point but to follow orders. We will look back one day and say wth happened to America. Answer, we gave up our freedoms and liberties over misinformation and panic. After this is over in a few weeks, there will be another crisis while the criticism of the administration will intensify.
Italy has 349 new bodies to bury as of today. In total, they have lost 2,158 people to this virus.

That really is pretty damn heartless. Anyone dying isn't peanuts. And, people dying from this is news. Especially now that it's here and confirmed cases are increasing daily.

Sometimes you have to bury emotions and look at things rationally.

What is the rationality of people dying without concern? Where is the rationale in watching people die without emotion? This isn't war, Hog, not yet anyway. I can see how you comment could apply to war from a personal perspective.

The vast majority of people dying (and that isn’t a lot) are elderly that were already sick. If you are in your 70s or older with health problems everyday is a gift because something is probably going to kill you sooner than later. Let’s not destroy economies over it.

Which is peanuts, really. Sorry to be heartless, but 2200 old people dying isn't news.

Abject cruelty aside, this isn't a very accurate take. The proportion of people with severe illness remains extremely high. Absolute numbers remain low in the beginning. If left unchecked and without mitigation strategies, the amount of people passing could become very severe in absolute terms as well.

And, therein lies the problem for some. Until it hits home, it ain't jack! People are dying of all ages. When does it strike home that this is real?

When it goes after the younger population, more might take it more seriously. On a side note, I worry about all age groups, none are expendable.

Well, I'm sorry. I am in my damn 70's. Mid freakin' 70's. Thanks for saying my life doesn't matter in the scheme of things. 'Preciate it.

What does this have have to do with what I said? They are using the crisis. We lost almost 13,000 in 2017 from the flu and an estimated 360,000 worldwide, where was the panic then?
