I think there was a time when TN recruited itself. In large part because of superior facilities and people knowing TN the way Pruitt remembers them. Now, everyone has facilities and big recruiting budgets. And now kids have to be told about how good we once were.
With 3 National recruiters of the year, we hit 6th in our conference.

I remember people questioning Dan's ability to recruit to TN and I still do. But most, myself included, also said that he would do great at Fl. I've seen nothing to make me change my mind considering everything has happened exactly as expected.

Me and you have both said he would do great at UF, but he would suck here. He doesn't have to be an elite recruiter at UF...and he is still a mediocre recruiter.

Look...Mehlan is going to he a thorn and have good teams at UF as long as he has Grantham to coach his defense. He will get the most out of his offense.

Two scenarios, which would be a better boost to the program from a fans perspective?

1) TENNESSEE beats AL, but only wins two of the remaining games afterwards and misses out on a bowl, or

2) TENNESSEE loses to AL, but wins out and gets bowl eligible (the AL loss is an arse whipping in this scenario).

Which would be the biggest boost? Basically comes down to knocking off the number one team or going to a bowl game? Obviously could use other scenarios but just wanted to see from other's perspective on which of these would mean the most.

Thoughts?
I’d hate to pass on a win at Alabama but I’m taking 8-4. No question.

I’m really interested to see how his team is in two years. You’re right he’s a goober who doesn’t recruit like a title condender should. But he’s a phenomenal coach and Grantham is the best thing going for him. We surely will be on par talent wise by 2021. And hopefully Pruitt will have some battle scars and wisdom by then. We march a sophomore Harrison Bailey or Junior Maurer into the swamp in 2021 and I want to see the scales tilt towards the Vols.
He loses Grantham and he is toast imo. He is a great offensive coach no doubt, but he would not do much, if any better here than at MSU...especially with the rotten attitude roster Jeremy inherited. He could no get away with that mediocre recruiting here long term..he can recruit well at UF even if he is a goober.

JG probably would have improved. WRs are comparable to Florida. Mullen is superior at coaching QBs compared to Chis Dienke. Grantham is very good too. But Florida has better parts on defense for sure.

We’d be 4-2. But that’s not saying much.
The main thing is I would be extremely surprised if Pruitt at UF, along with Helton and even say they stole Chaney Y2...do they go from 21 ppg to 35 ppg in year 1 and now develop no name Trask to what he is now? We may be 5-1 due to beating UF if the 2 staffs were swapped.

Spurrier, Meyer, now Mullen all developed QBs like HECK. I don't mind having an elite defensive guy as HC, but we really need elite QB developers on staff or kick em to the curb. Weinke, Chaney, idk who but the way JG regressed, Shrout looks totally unready, BM has twice the picks as TDs. Bad bad job by whoever it is on. Not saying immediate changes, but if it's like this by end of Y3, things have to change. QB play has killed us for too long. Great coaches can develop at least 1 guy, if not 2 or even 3 (even Emory Jones looks serviceable).

Gotta love the ballsy move by Stoops. Rather than accept having the worst QB in the nation, he throws his best playmaker back there. I wish we'd spend just 1 spot on that kind of guy - a great runner capable of taking snaps at QB. You never know when you could utilize him and meantime he can be a WR. Feels like a blindspot we don't have a true DT QB on the team. I'm talking a guy fast enough to even make plays horizontally. We don't have that.

Yeah I wouldn't mind it either. Maurer seems prone to getting banged up so far. JG has proven his toughness, maybe just let him have this game if only for that.

You all blow my mind lol...kid took a hard blindside shot from a Georgia LB/DB and still played the following week...but the minute he spearheads himself into the ground trying to make a play and avoid a tackle (by his own doing) that I recall going (almost 30 yards) on a busted coverage play...y’all are saying he’s injury prone? Dude literally landed on his neck?...you both are full of S**t😂...y’all can ride JG’s d**k off into the sunset if you choose too but he’s nothing more than a tough veteran QB that’s benefited from our SC program for his body to take those kinds of shots..Brian is a freshman and is still trying to play.not to mention he continued the drive when he shouldn’t have.

He pulled that crap against arky...at home. Wow what a coup!

I think Maurer looks damn good for a freshman. Jg was/is a lost cause, lets tap the brakes on qb development judgement.
I'm not really knocking anyone too much for how freshman look. 8 months isn't fair. But Shrout and JG regressing is completely fair game. We spent the first 5 games playing JG like he is someone else. Chaney finally played him the right way. Put him in a tight box, some deep throws where he excels, and lean on the run. At least give them credit if they figured that much out...though it should have been known preseason.

Dude...it's called protecting your QB1 for the rest of the season...after a concussion...vs Bama...lol. It's risk management and long-term planning. C'mon.

How has Shrout regressed? Lol

Maybe JG just sucks badly at QBing....and how in the hell do you know Shrout "regressed" 🤔
