We all allow it!I'm here to tell you guys that this is Nick Saban's 13th year coaching the Crimson Tide and that in 1970 Bear Bryant was in his 13th year coaching the Crimson Tide. That year, Tennessee beat the brakes off Alabama 24-0 with the Tide throwing eight...EIGHT!! interceptions.
Therefore, it stands to reason (because math) that the Vols will win this Saturday and that the Tide will throw a ton of picks.
For the second straight Wednesday, Tennessee worked out in helmets and shorts as Jeremy Pruitt looks to both lighten the load midweek and get Trey Smith more practice reps.
The Vols continued their work on No. 1 Alabama, with both scheme and individual drills.
Here’s some quick highlights from two open periods…
Tennessee’s linebacker spent the early part of one period focusing solely on run defense, both shedding blockers and filling the right gaps. Notably, the first grouping was Daniel Bituli and Solon Page, with Henry To’oto’o, who will miss the first half due to his targeting penalty vs. Mississippi State, and Quavaris Crouch going with the 2s. Aaron Beasley and JJ Peterson did not take any reps during the run-fit drill.
Later, the linebackers joined the outside ‘backers and worked on the various dime/rabbits packages, with Ja’Quain Blakely as the lone defensive line. The Vols continue to juggle personnel there, with as many as four “pass rush” linebackers on the field together.
During indy work, the defensive line hit the sleds and dummies, while the outside ‘backers did two different pass rush drills using the chute.
The offensive line split into two groups Wednesday, with tackles and center/guards working apart. Interestingly, after working with the 1s at left guard Tuesday, Jahmir Johnson worked with the tackles today, joining Wanya Morris, Darnell Wright, K’Rojhn Calbert and Marcus Tatum. The first-team interior grouping was Trey Smith, Brandon Kennedy and Jerome Carvin, with Ryan Johnson also seeing reps at right guard.
Tennessee tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer was not present at practice today. The position coach is likely on the road recruiting, but that is not yet confirmed.
The quarterbacks and tailbacks spent a whole period working on mesh point, mostly via zone-read. Brian Maurer, who Jeremy Pruitt deemed a game-time decision earlier today, was taking all the first-team reps. Jarrett Guarantano was going No. 2 in that drill, but when they moved to routes on air, JT Shrout was working after Maurer every time. The period wasn’t as crisp as Tuesday but was still solid. The focus was clearly on third down throws, with Tee Martin yelling at all the wideouts to make sure they found the sticks.
Most battles in recruiting are losses because of the number of players you go after verses the 25 you can get. Yeah, we lost King, but we won Bailey. Lost Johnson, got Mordecai. Lost Morris, ?..... Why dwell on losses when the majority are going to be losses. Focus on the ones we get. Think I heard that somewhere. They are lost battles regardless. We wanted King, Johnson, Morris for sure. Replacing them is fine, doesn't wipe away anything. We don't have to be butthurt over it. No shame losing out to an experienced name HC right now with national presence for winning a natty. We have to just starting winning on the field more and turn the tables in the future. It's whatever right now.
Meh..Right. Mississippi State people need to remember that they're Mississippi State. Bottom two or three program in this league currently and traditionally speaking. This is the major reason why I never understood people when the argument was made that because Mullen was in the 7-9 win range at MSU, that's what he'd be at UF. That argument made zero sense.
Meh..no freakin way he pulls the kids we got last year...no freakin way....he could not get away with his goober recruiting here...period..Mullen would likely have had the program in a better spot right now, in large part due to the experience he had as a head coach in this league. When comparing the two, my gut has always told me that Pruitt has a higher upside than Mullen. That being said, I think Mullen is a very solid coach who would have had us winning somewhere between 8 and 11 games year in and year out. Wouldn't call him an elite recruiter by any stretch but I've always felt that Tennessee recruits itself. If you put forth effort at all you're going to get players here.
How is 3 and out EVERY FREAKIN possession..."Ball Control"...No that’s what will happen if we let maurer play and use the game plan we’ve had with him in. We will try to pass too much and he will throw 3 ints and bama will score every single time.
No matter which QB it is, I want to see a lot of ball control. This bama team isnt as stout defensively. They really haven’t been since becoming a more spread team. I want to see us punch them in the mouth over and over. Maybe we will lose 35-14 or something

So...we would NOT be in a better position right now...even if he did have us at 4-2 right now.
SMH...the orange is "Neon"?Nike worsened our uniforms. The only thing I like is the block lettering of Tennessee and the basketball for the most part. The orange is neon, the numerals on the jerseys clash with the classic look, and the baseball uniforms are hideous.
2Two scenarios, which would be a better boost to the program from a fans perspective?
1) TENNESSEE beats AL, but only wins two of the remaining games afterwards and misses out on a bowl, or
2) TENNESSEE loses to AL, but wins out and gets bowl eligible (the AL loss is an arse whipping in this scenario).
Which would be the biggest boost? Basically comes down to knocking off the number one team or going to a bowl game? Obviously could use other scenarios but just wanted to see from other's perspective on which of these would mean the most.
Thoughts?

Hopefully JG plays. I’m interested to see if he can perform as well as he did against state. That was the guy we expected to see coming into the season. Didn’t ask him to do much other than play smart.
I’m hoping we have the same mentality against bama this week: run the ball, kill clock, and play sound defense. Keep Tua and the WR corp off the field as much as possible
