Maurer should not play next week

We can’t play Maurer this week or shouldn’t. I usually would never say that but let the kid rest this week we need him down the stretch plus no way his experience pulls out the win against nama

Hell no. Unless he's concussed, he plays. Being the starter means you actually play.
After seeing the hits he’s taken his first 2 games playing as a true Fr, it’s just not smart to play him vs Bama 1 week after a head/neck injury even if he passes the protocol. Let JG and Shrout handle it coz we’ll need Maurer for the home stretch to hopefully get bowl eligible.

Agreed. We have like a 2% chance of winning, it would be foolish to risk getting him knocked out for the season when the remainder of the games are winnable.

Kicker, if Maurer is our guy, I’m damn sure he’ll want to play. How do you tell him, if he’s cleared “you’re not playing”?

And how do you ask your players to compete if you sit players who can play? This isn’t the trombone section we’re talking about.

You have got to be kidding me. Did you not notice how we had to change the offensive play calling when jg came into the game. He limits our offense so very much. I will say he did do a good job of game managment, but him starting the game again, we might squeak out one win with him as a starter the rest of the season. And not just in this game, very few down field passes were called for him, he can't consistantly make down field passes. He can only consistantly throw short routes and count on the receivers to gain yards after the catch.
Have you considered that a conservative game plan might be the best approach vs bama? If Maurer is in there gunslinging he’s just as likely to take more big hits as he is to throw more picks in the end zone. A win is unlikely but limiting TOs is our best shot. In 2 SEC games Maurer is lucky he doesn’t have broken ribs and a broken neck.

Passing concussion protocol isn’t the same as being 100% coming off a head/neck injury. Vs bama. It’s not smart. And I’m sure Maurer will be begging to play regardless of what any doctors tell him.

Jarrett's complete inability to read defenses and actually run a little would be his death sentence against this Bama team. If Brian is cleared to play by the medical staff, he should play. He also should spend part of the week with Tony Vitello learning proper slide technique.

As Mr. Coach Farmer Fran once tried really hard to say, "you live to fight another day."

Then we shouldn't have played him against FL or GA, both defensively better than AL. And hold him against MO, too, as they've a better defensive ranking than AL. We need him for next year; let's keep him out the remainder of '19.

If he's healthy, play him.

Didn't I say "if he's cleared to play"? I'm sure the doctors will consider all potential issues or did you stay at a Holiday Inn last night?

And didn’t i say being cleared isn’t the same as 100% from a head/neck injury? Personally I don’t think he has a concussion, strained or sprained neck seems more likely.

Sad. Neither one of you can read too good. But yeah, saying Mizzou is a more formidable defense than bama is definitely a winning argument

If Maurer is healthy, let him start and play. Get him as much experience as possible vs good teams.
