We’ll just have to agree to disagree. We’re recruiting well enough to restock the roster and be a middle of the pack SEC team. We’re not recruiting well enough to pass those teams and to make up for a lack of good gameday coaching (if the deficit there exists).

Pretty sure Martinez decommited and commited to Nebraska about a week after Pruitt was hired. An ESPN article says that Martinez spoke to Pruitt before changing his commitment.

He also said JG hit his hand on a helmet in the game...I’m hoping this is his opportunity to tell JG that we need to rest your hand because you need to be full-go for Florida - we’ll use this game to identify our backup so if you get hurt we’ll at least have a backup with some in-game experience.

At least that’s how I’m hoping he handles this....

I'm not down on our recruiting. I'm predicting it will fall off because selling freshman playing time isn't as effective when you can't prove you're capable of developing and maximizing whatever talent you have, but not knocking Pruitt for recruiting ability. That has been successful for coaches who are new and can blame the previous coach for poor performance. I don't think it will work for Pruitt when he can't coach superior talent to a victory over byu or GA St, so that's why I think this recruiting class won't be a good one unless we get some miracle wins later this season.

We've had vastly superior talent to the two teams who just beat us, so my problem is that getting better talent clearly doesn't automatically equate to wins with this staff.

I'll take middle of the pack SEC for now. If Pruitt can get us back up to average, I'll be happy with him and I'll have hope he can take us the next step after that.

It's perception honestly. If you look at "team rankings" then yeah, 18+ average is worse. But if you look at composite average for the class 90 is better than 88/89.

Comes down to what story you want to tell. Butch & Dooley had higher ranked classes, true. But were they "better" well, define better. It's inconclusive at best, especially since you average all the classes of 2 former coaches against 2 classes for the current...and one of those wasn't truly his class since so much ground had to be made up.

Butch's classes were highly ranked because he overstocked with lower rated players. Then, he'd have half of each class transfer before they were juniors. Ergo the perpetual "well this is a very young team."

That depth would be helpful right now, but Pruitt is mostly focused on quality. He's getting it. I say give him a couple more classes, some years of success, and recruiting will get easier. One step at a time. No way anyone would walk into our situation with a Top 5 class out of the gate. Anyone who seriously thinks that is high or stupid.

Quit talking to him.
Last years class had the best recruiting average in what? 10 years? The players that are playing look better than the rest already.
Convinced he doesn't know anything, and just wants something to complain about
