If we land the 6 I think that we will (Hardy, Baron, Thomas, Rybka, Eason, and Whitehead) that gives us a score of 242.42 atm, which would have been good for 22nd last year. But that would be with only 18 commits, 7 more spots to fill. If those 7 spots are made up with a couple guys like Jarrett and Washington, we're climbing fast. In fact, just add Jarrett and Washington, and we climb to 14th in last years class ranking with 5 more spots available. So this class still has a chance to be special. We'll just have to see.
and hardy and baron are as close to being in already as they probably could be.

still a long way to go.

so we have to finish strong? well, i'd just say "no s**t". lol.

but that's not where you started....

it doesn't have to look good now. how it looks today means absolutely nothing. something many are having a problem understanding.

Your post pretty much says the exact thing I am saying .

You are willing to admit it doesn’t look good right now. Many here don’t want to do so

How much better you think JG can be with our OL? We got outscored by 25 or more 6 times last year. Timing and footwork drills ain't making up for that. With the teams we face every year, we cannot be competitive without elite talent.

I'm critical of Friend, and Pittman is probably a better developer, but you're talking about recruiting talent, and we got two 5 star OT's last cycle, so I'm not sure what your complaint is.

i don't care how it looks right now. that's the point. why you do or anyone else does is beyond me.

it just doesn't matter.

Hard to say with the 2 freshmen and uncertainty about Trey. Mays started 7 games for UGA last season. I'd guess that's the best we can hope for with our Freshmen. Maybe Trey is able to give some plays later in the season. Best case, we may be a little better halfway through the season.
I don't think you understand what "best case" means.

I think reality is somewhere in the middle. This is a message board so discussing the current state of the recruiting class is worth debating. We should care where things stand now but we also need to understand things can change dramatically over the course of the next few months

This is true, hard to remember that at times.

Hardy
Baron
Thomas
Rybka
Joel Williams
Mordecai
Whitehead
Sewell
Smalls
Washington
Gilbert
Ojulari
Morris
Robinson
Eason

All guys we are in on that have not committed yet. Jarrett is committed but not committed so we could add him to the list. How many of those guys do you all think we get. Right now I'd say we land 6 with certainty. But we have a shot at the rest.

I think we're in great shape on 5-6. We're probably only out on a couple and a few others are long shots. So I get why they're playing the long game. It's a bold strategy and it takes confidence. UT fans aren't a confident bunch. I get that, too.

And things could be completely different by fall.

It does not really look anything right now because there is so much time to go and actual football games to be played. There are guys we have committed now who probably won't sign. We have guys not on the radar who may sign. What, specifically does not look good? Number of commits? Average commit ranking?

I think the difference between this year and last is that last year we could kind of see the direction the class was going. We already had 5 star Morris in the fold. We were in deep battles for Henry and Crouch, and we all knew that Wright was a Vol lock. This year we don't have a 5 star, and we certainly don't have a silent 5 star running around like Wright last year. In fact, there's only a handful of guys that we are all probably confident end up Vols in the end: Hardy, Baron, Eason, Robinson. Other than that, it's hard to see the direction the class is going. I mean, if we land a few of Gilbert, Washington, Smalls, Sewell, Jarrett then the class is outstanding. Miss all of them, and its probably not going to be a great class at all.
You specifically had a BVS stroke over Morris before he committed and no one stopped worrying about Auburn flipping him til he signed. Don’t know where this revisionist Darnell Wright “lock” crap comes from. We had some insiders and some VQ mods that felt confident about our chances but that kid didn’t talk! As late as the week before NSD (the final one) we were white knuckling WVA’s renewed efforts and the honored Sam Pittman’s personal mission to land him. Toto was the ultimate last second surprise following Crouch’s shock in December. In July 2018 no one seriously counted them as part of our class that didn’t own a diner. We stressed last year much more because we hadn’t witnessed what these guys can do WHEN IT COUNTS. Resume selective amnesia...tip your waiter.

It’s July and Tennessee won’t sign a good recruiting class.........omg, let’s all freak out......
Jesus people
Guys wanna see improvement
Let’s see where we are come early signing day

I think it’s fair to say there are two outcomes for this class.

1) elite top 10 type class

Or

2) a solid class that sets this program up for 7-9 win seasons.

At least my post have been referring to this class heading toward 2). It’s going to be hard to get that elite class imo

There is no scenario in my mind where we have a complete disaster of a class

Is there serious confidence that we’re gonna deliver in that regard? CJP expecting to overachieve?

Every staff has their own strategy. Butch loaded up early, seems like Pruitt likes to wait and see on some prospects.

Watch USC(real) on NSD, they surge from like 40th to top 10 with like 5 top 100 commits. That would give me a ton of anxiety, but I think Pruitt is very picky about who he gives committable offers to.

exactly. good or bad. so worrying about how it "looks" now, just doesn't matter....and the hot takes about it are just that, hot takes.

i'm all for discussing the class and prospects, but when we start getting in to what it means to be ranked 30th right now...........meh.

you think FL is going to hit the field next year talking about being ranked 9th in last year's recruiting rankings? nope.

i get why people pay attention. it's an easy barometer that anyone can relate to. and while there's merit to the whole top 10, top 5 classes being how you get good, fast.......the rest is about fit and development.....so absent some top 5 classes in the immediate future, i'm more concerned with what we're doing now in that regard, and then how we get to the point where we can start signing classes of that top 5-10 ilk. that's just not this off season.......probably....i expect it to finish in or around the top 12 ish, assuming we do what is needed on the field and close well again.

if we flame out on the field the class probably doesn't wind up like any of us want it. then we can talk about things not going well.

but a lot to go thru before we get there. everything is "in process" today....working toward the end result.

Well, yeah, happens all the time.

I don't mean that we were confident in landing Henry and Crouch, but we were deep in those battles. Doesn't feel that way with Sewell or Washington. Feels like we're there but not like that. Maybe I'm misremembering. There may have been some teetering on Wright, but VQ was basically telling us he was a Vol for 9 months.

He guys not sure if you’ve heard this one before, but.... We need to win on the field this year.
But if we don't, we're gonna be like..
