I think the difference between this year and last is that last year we could kind of see the direction the class was going. We already had 5 star Morris in the fold. We were in deep battles for Henry and Crouch, and we all knew that Wright was a Vol lock. This year we don't have a 5 star, and we certainly don't have a silent 5 star running around like Wright last year. In fact, there's only a handful of guys that we are all probably confident end up Vols in the end: Hardy, Baron, Eason, Robinson. Other than that, it's hard to see the direction the class is going. I mean, if we land a few of Gilbert, Washington, Smalls, Sewell, Jarrett then the class is outstanding. Miss all of them, and its probably not going to be a great class at all.
That's why we have hope that things turn for the better on the field this year and I think they should be able to win 7-8 games this year. Chaney and Ansley were two awesome hires

Because some of the guys we really want aren't committing till fall. So we either take commitments from Plan Cs or play the long game. The coaches are playing the long game. So they must think they have a pretty good hand.

No doubt you can’t declare a winner in the middle of the game but things aren’t looking as good as many will admit

Plus.....don’t you think if Pittman was that great, Cooper would have followed his brother?
Do you think he had committable offer at UGA? UGA has 3 OL committed who are rated higher and the one guy who has the same rating is 3 inches taller and about 50 pounds heavier. Read some national media. UGA is putting together a generational OL.

I want to see Florida bottom out so badly this season. Watch recruits bail and players transfer out like popcorn popping
could happen. and you know the fans, on the heels of a 10 win season, have blinders on in regards to the off field issues and have their eyes set on beating GA and going to ATL.

they go out and win 8 games and finish 3rd or 4th in the division and lose to a "shoulda beat" type team, and the WTF's will start rolling........

With ESD, where is the break point for recruiting during the season? Maybe if we have 6 wins after UAB game at the latest? Maybe it’s as early as the FLA game? Help me out here.

Not sure how things could look better without changing the strategy. Most of our top realistic recruits haven't committed and won't be committing for a while. Either we take commitments from backups or we wait for the guys we really want.

Seems like people are taking issue with the recruiting strategy more than how it's playing out. Because so far, we're mostly watching guys the coaches wouldn't take right now lock up spots at schools that are willing to take an early commitment.

Our situation reminds me of real estate in a way.

Butch Jones slapped some fresh paint on the house and paid a landscaper to clean up the yard. It looked great for a little while. Then we discovered termites, a cracked foundation, and all of the new plants in the yard died.

Then Pruitt comes in, realized that this thing needs to be tore down to the studs, and you have folks who are complaining that it isn’t move-in ready yet.

We need to recruit to beat Vandy, South Carolina, and Kentucky consistently. That’s just where we are. We do that with our resources, and we will get the players it takes to beat Missouri, Florida and Georgia.

We’re looking at over a decade of mismanagement by multiple coaching staffs and ADs who wanted to build monuments to mediocrity. It’s gonna take time to unf@&& it all.

This is true, hard to remember that at times.

Hardy
Baron
Thomas
Rybka
Joel Williams
Mordecai
Whitehead
Sewell
Smalls
Washington
Gilbert
Ojulari
Morris
Robinson
Eason

All guys we are in on that have not committed yet. Jarrett is committed but not committed so we could add him to the list. How many of those guys do you all think we get. Right now I'd say we land 6 with certainty. But we have a shot at the rest.

So what ?

The point is with where we are we have to close very strong to make this class successful.

Isn’t that a fair thing to say?
so we have to finish strong? well, i'd just say "no s**t". lol.

but that's not where you started....

it doesn't have to look good now. how it looks today means absolutely nothing. something many are having a problem understanding.

I feel like 3-4 of those already in the bag! Excited for this recruiting close...happy to wait on the big fish, not a ton of spots left and several outstanding needs.

If we land the 6 I think that we will (Hardy, Baron, Thomas, Rybka, Eason, and Whitehead) that gives us a score of 242.42 atm, which would have been good for 22nd last year. But that would be with only 18 commits, 7 more spots to fill. If those 7 spots are made up with a couple guys like Jarrett and Washington, we're climbing fast. In fact, just add Jarrett and Washington, and we climb to 14th in last years class ranking with 5 more spots available. So this class still has a chance to be special. We'll just have to see.

Yeah, I think that Jay, Baron, Eason, Thomas, and Robinson are already Vols. I think Rybka picks the Vols next month also. Then dang, if we can land a few of those top guys like Jarrett, Washington, and Sewell, we'll have a top 5 class. Still chance to make a major move. WE HAVE TO WIN!
