Zach Kent has been...

Now many times schools wait to apply for the waiver because they aren't sure they want the kid an extra year but it's my belief they can apply before year 5 is over

I think that they might wait, as I posted way back, in order to take advantage of a more favorable climate with more pressure being applied to the NCAA to make rulings beneficial to the student athletes. Actually the conference office makes the ruling and the school can appeal to the NCAA if the waiver is denied by the SEC.

I would think that the school would continue to assist getting a 6th year for the SA even if the plan was for them to transfer before using up their eligibility. It would be pretty sleazy of a school to not assist. Scholarships are year-to-year anyway, so the SA can be cut from the program while still helping them get a 6th year.

I agree with that. I'd say the time to submit and appeal is when a player graduates. At that time the acedemic calendar needs to be know for any kind of 5-6th year

Yea I get that

The fact Kent was listed as a redshirt freshmen all year means his waiver was granted

I'm not relying on the UTAD SID as the final word. I think that they either keep the status quiet due to HIPPA or they're assuming that everything is in order for at least a one year (2017-18) MHW for ZK not being denied by the SEC. I've never seen anything released about a MHW officially being granted for ZK for 2017-18 and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with actually submitting the request as a 2-year waiver. I can't imagine a MHW being denied for 2017-18 as he seems to meet all if the criteria. Having had surgery after the season validates that there was a legit medical issue, he played in less than 30% of games, and only participated in the first 50% of the season.

He woudnt be listed as a redshirt if it wasn't granted. I'd bet a bunch on that Part

Another POSSIBILITY could be that the league office doesn't actually formally "approve" waiver requests and instead would only deny the applications that are NOT in order. I'm guessing that it's a possible procedure... I have no knowledge of the actual, official process procedure.

I have some actual knowledge of the process and the approval only takes a short time.
It's very reasonable that his waiver was approved this time a year ago

What do you mean? I'm simply replying to posts challenging what I've said. My end game could be that a 2-year medical hardship waiver for Zach Kent is still a possibility, but I said that at the beginning.
I mean why are you so unsure that Kent is a redshirt freshman? You did the same thing with Fulkerson and I'm just wondering why you go to great lengths to disprove our players redshirt statuses? Are you going to report Tennessee if you find out that they're lying about it?

I'll say this. That article proves to me they certainly are planning to get that waiver/redshirt

There have been a number of NCAA appeals the used media reports to help argue the fudging. Smart move by Barnes
Unless it’s not “fudging” and he’s been actually hurt and just now healthy. Progress tho. 😉

It's very clear if he was needed he was healthy enough to have played at the end of last year. You need to stick to arguing about medical waivers vs Medical redshirts

Butchna was arguing that the application had to be applied for AFTER all eligibility was used, that wasn't me.

I don't remember seeing where the SEC has approved ZK's MHW for 2017-18. My point was that IF it was denied then he would use 2018-19 as a "regular redshirt".

He’s already received a redshirt. Next step would be a sixth year of eligibility...i.e medical redshirt for this past season. Review Brandon Kennedy’s saga. He was a 2015 signee. Redshirted (standard) his first season. Played sparingly as a REDSHIRT freshman. Played more extensively as a REDSHIRT sophomore but only 3 games before season ending injury. Grad transferred to us last season as a redshirt junior...season ending injury first game. Where’s his MEDICAL redshirt listed?

Clearly your OPINION. Thanks for the advice...but rejected. 😎

247 also? They’re all in cahoots! 🤣

If you look back, I was using the term medical hardship waiver from the start. I started saying "medical redshirt" only after several posts because I was tired of typing out "medical hardship waiver" and I didn't want to confuse anybody with "MHW".

I believe that you were wrong every time that you've claimed that I was wrong. You were also wrong when you brought part of the new rule for football only into the back-and-forth. If a basketball player participants in a single minute then a "regular redshirt" is not an option.

He’s already listed by EVERYBODY except whatever literary source you represent as a REDSHIRT at the beginning of the 2018 season and will be a redshirt sophomore next season even though he played nada in 2018. Gotta go with that.

I've still not seen any official announcement on Kent's status. I've only seen anonymous posters on a message board speculating the roster published on utsports.com as being proof of any real official status. And yes, I'll be reporting TN if they're lying about it. I already have started preparing the official paperwork.

Why?

No. You don’t get two. You redshirt then apply for an additional if your first was due to medical reasons. And you can’t apply til the end of your eligibility.

I guess I was a bit ambiguous, as that was exactly what I was trying to say.

Why what?
Why do you think they would or need to make some special announcement on Kent's redshirt status? I hope you're joking on the second part but if you're not then why would you turn them in? Oh and by the way, you do realize that Utsports.com is an official university website right?

I never said that they had to. But it would shut down all of this speculation if that's a problem for any of you people.

Also, to be clear, I've not seen any press release or announcement on the status of an official application for a medical hardship waiver. I am fully aware that utsports.com is the "official" website of UT athletics. It's just a roster put out by their PR hacks.

Why would they do a press release for that?

Its HIPAA, unless the UTAD reports to a hippopotamus. :D
