Why do some think Bailey will start in 2020?

Ok.
I was thrown off when I realized every thread you commented on since joining, has been you pitching/defending Maurer. Every single one.
Thought maybe you were a relative, happens sometimes, here.
Wasn't attacking, just pointing out that you don't have to convince the majority. So don't sweat it, that's all.

Oh, as far as this thread turning toward Maurer, seems to have happened when you turned it there. 🤷‍♂️ Again, my bad I'm sure.
Not a relative. Im just a fan of UT football and see something we've been missing since Dobbs. Im excited about the future that's all. Im not even on the boat of him starting but I would like to see him get some playing time. I would like to see JG improve and get to where he would like to be as well as any other Vol.

We’re talking about a guy who hasn’t even signed. I’m pretty sure Chaney will have his day in who they ultimately sign and the direction UT goes for QB.

Speaking of Harrison Bailey, anyone potentially interested in trying to check out one of his games this year? He plays at Marietta High School, so close by for us Atlantans (albeit, nightmarish traffic into Cobb County on Friday evening). Still several months away, so don't know if i can do it yet, but would cool if a group of us from here could meet up to watch him.

Yeah, that's cool. As mentioned, just suggesting not to worry about convincing others, never matters towards the results.

Kinda hoping you were a relative.
Imagine the conversation between you and uncle Greazy!
The portrayal of Maurer throwing the game winning TD to Johnson to beat Bama, woulda been epic.

I was thinking about that season recently. We had a great oline that year that was kind of wasted on breaking in two freshman qbs. I wonder what kind of year we would have had if shuler had stayed or colquitt had not been injured.

With either I believe we had a shot at it all. UF did some a mud hole in us iirc. But, that would have been a good team.

Don't take any hostesses please.

I can't stand him, his coach, the Patriots or their 36 SB rings, but I agree he's one of the all time greats.

But I was just kidding anyway.
I know, figured I’d jump in with both feet just for good measure....and trigger some other poster who loved him some Brady. Looked like a win-win for me 😁

Hes 1 inch taller and 10 lbs havier than Maurer. Not a big difference. Most polished? I feel like that can be argued when Maurer didn't miss a single mark from the pocket or otherwise in the O&W game. If you look at Maurers tape it shows him doing all the same things as Bailey but with the added bonus of doing it on the run in some cases. The difference? Maurer did what he put on tape without a top 10 team surrounding him. I'll concede that Bailey MAY have a stronger arm but that may not be entirely accurate in itself. Idk. I do know that each of the qbs can easily throw it over 60 yrds which will only be needed once a game in the final seconds and down by a td or less. So for 47 min and 50 seconds that strong arm will be unnecessary.

I gotta give you credit though. You're the first one to ever step up and point out something specific. And no disrespect at all.... you may be right. Who knows?
I really like what I saw from Maurer in the O&W game and there’s plenty of reason to think Bailey is a stud coming in. I like our qb situation, a lot, going forward.

Now, about that OL......

I understand the o line woes. No doubt they need serious improvement. But I feel like most of where they fall short is in the run game. They arent moving anyone. As for passing game in most cases I got to "3 Mississippi " even against Alabama last yr. Im almost postive that Cheney is addressing that with JG this season. I expect to see improvements in the passing game. Call me optimistic

Yep, some of these guys sure do love them some Brady. It's almost like a jealousy thing when you say he's not the GOAT ... "Well who do you think is then, huh??? ", or just mention Peyton's name. Haha. It's funny.

If he's not the GOAT, who is or who do you think is?
I think there’s a handful of guys who can legitimately be in the discussion, but given all the different variables and circumstances, I don’t know how anyone can honestly and definitively say it’s this guy or that guy. Certainly Brady is in the discussion. Jmo.

See.... I don't feel he's in the conversation at all after spygate. They won 3 sbs under that scandal. Then add on top of that he plays in the AFC east with the dolphins, bills and Jets. Just a decent team wins that division every yr. Guaranteed playoff birth.

I can see
Peyton
Ar12
Montana
Elway
All being apart of that discussion as the 1 going they all have in common is they never cheated and had to earn their way through their divisions and conferences. Jmo

Man stop.... he didnt see the safety. The second one I feel was more of a bad play by the receiver than a bad decision by him.
Just making light fun at you saying every ball he threw went where it was intended. I can assure you, they didnt.

He will be the starter after JG due to being the most talented and best passer of the starting candidates. Unless JS or BM drastically improve.

I agree with you but he would definately have to earn the spot from Maurer and Shrout and I think they give him some serious competition.

I get it but I think we both know what we mean. You aim for the bullseye when shooting a gun or playing darts don't you? Doesn't mean that's where it finishes. Even on the ints the ball finished where he intended it to. Just in the wrong hands a couple of times. That's all I mean by "on target"

This is the kind of post I originally thought would be fun to debate between all the qbs. But I'm keeping my thumb quiet now.

Then for a legit answer, Bailey was just named the MVP by the coaches of the the nationals in NC and secured a spot with the Nike Elite 11 camp. He's excelled in every category basically. His hype has been earned time and again, not just handed to him

With that said, that does not automatically make him the starter. If JG sticks around and improves, don't see him losing the spot.
There is also a lot to be said for the time JT and Brian will have with the offense, S&C and development. Plus, pure maturity.

Bailey would have to be every bit the hype plus some, to overtake the elders ahead of him. It's a win for us either way.

I agree with everything you said. Hes legit. Cant argue the boy can spin it. What I wonder is how well hell spin it from a pocket(or lack thereof)under pressure. He doesnt get much of that at Merrietta. The biggest hype in collge football right now is (arguably) Trevor Lawrence. The reason they won the NC was Alabama couldn't get pressure. If you go back and watch the few times they did get through he was inaccurate. That's what you get from powerhouse qbs from powerhouse programs. Tennessee is in a rebuild starting with the weakest link. The trenches.

While this has been said before, I don't care. I just don't expect the line to be horrible forever. Our incoming class is the biggest step in the right direction since the problem began. We don't have to leap all the way to great, we should be headed for serviceable at least, by 2020.

All I see is what's out there right now. I do expect to see improvement as well but at the end of the day I gotta level with myself and understand that its more like several yrs away from being the o line we need. Especially if we have a pure pocket passer at qb.

They'll have to reach at least serviceable for Pruitt to show any progress in wins over the next 2 years. I'm a patient "give' em time" guy but if we're not showing minimum progress by year 3, then we probably have bigger issues.
