I have to recant my statement that It’s Briles after a phone conversation I had. Don’t think Briles is what we are looking for. No more insider tips for you guys![]()
Here's what I think: There's dozens of competent coaches UT could hire for the OC position. From high school to JUCO, FCS, FBS, and the NFL there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of coaches who are good at their jobs and capable of coordinating an offense who would accept the Tennessee OC job. But how many recruits are there who Tennessee could sign that would immediately upgrade their offensive line? Probably no more than 5 at this point. If we don't hire Briles, we'll move on to the next guy and be fine. If we don't sign Wright and Morris, our offense will struggle regardless of who we hire because until we upgrade the offensive line, the Vols aren't fielding a competitive offense.Lol no they’re not. If you honestly think that two HS players who haven’t played a down are more important than a competent OC, then look at our offensive performance between 05/06 with basically the same roster. Or between 08/09 with the exact same QBs and receivers.
I understand him wanting to bring his OL coach, they have a good chemistry and the OL coach knows what the OC already wants. He would have to teach Friend, does Pruitt turn control of the offense over? If yes, then that includes hires. This was just posted on FSU 247.
We averaged 3.5 ypc that year. Next year they turned it around. Coaching is very important but if you don't have linemen you're not going very far. Kiffin worked a miracle with what we had mainly because we were able to run and play action boot off of it. Still only had 7 wins with a top ranked defense. You need good football players. Period.3-4 guys on the 05 team who played on Sundays. Try again. Also your point is completely irrelevant because my comment was based on the fact that competent coaching turned the team around after a poor performance the year before. If we had poor Oline play it would have only furthered my point...ie Kiffin did have a patchwork offensive line in 09 but managed to scheme around it.
Honestly not much, I’d think Enos is ahead of Briles. Jmo. Enos checks every box on what Pruitt wants. Same system, does well with QBs, recruits very well. If you put the OC search on Match Maker, it’d match Pruitt and Enos.I agree wasn't impressed with friend while talent did him no favors. I hope Pruitt doesn't screw pooch o we his friend.....i have feeling that's what's going on..at this point hire briles and move on before you get bottom of the barrel. What are you hearing about search on our end
What are some examples of this philosophy? Seriously? Pittman and Chaney became kind of a semi-package deal starting in that last season at UT, but what successful recent example do you have?
Pruitt and Friend were college roommates. Would be hard to fire him under any circumstances and Friend was the one who got Pruitt hired at Ga, so he returned the favor, hard to imagine kicking him to the curb.I agree wasn't impressed with friend while talent did him no favors. Real life example...not philosophy. Any successful HC’s bring in an OC and give them carte blanche? And by “successful” I mean eventually...since Pruitt doesn’t fit that description, presently. Dabo hires Chad Morris and Morris worked with what was on staff. Bama is always exempt because whoever gets the gig is on job alert, anyway. Neither Dan Mullen nor Tom Herman picked coaches for Urban. I’m sure there’s someone who politiciked for “their guy” but I’ve never heard a story where Jim Peterson or Gary Patterson flubbed a hire because they wouldn’t dump their WR’s coach for the guy they brought in. I know I know AT&T! Google! “High level” shizz...that ain’t football. It’s a general real life truism. Most people in high level management like to bring in others they can trust with who they already have an established history. I’m not saying you always let them bring in their guy, but why not if it helps you land your target?
If it’s always a hard NO then the job isn’t very attractive.
Is he still trading "white women" for commitments from recruits then shrugging is shoulders when those "white women" are gang raped?
The only thing Kendal Briles needs is a good butt whooping.
