Bruce Feldman on Briles

The thing about Briles or any OC is they should get the OL line coach they want and have been successful with. You don't want to do something half way and find out it does not work. He and Friend could work but it is more likely Briles and his Ol coach would definitely be more successful. We had very little success with Friend as OL coach. I don't think it should be hard for a head coach to say we need a change in direction now.

“We had” one season...with talent issues as a backdrop. Say Pruitt drops a trusted, long time successful OL coach for Clement and we only hold serve or even REGRESS? What then? Next? No one can answer me concerning what other program brought in a new OC with this caveat? We keep throwing out Shoop on defense, but who was the sacred cow on defense who couldn’t have been replaced? There was no Friend factor in that mess. Thig, Martinez, Strip were all CAREER average performers. And that failure was still more a byproduct of forcing Shoop to retain Jancek’s terminology and most of his concepts...different animals.

Agree to a point but they were at full strength first game versus WV and looked as bad then as they did last game versus Vandy

Agree to a POINT and miss the main one. This OL never had STRENGTH period. You had a tentative Smith practically without an offseason and...the rest. There was nothing to improve.

heres a BIG Vol fan !

You need to check yourself or raise your standards. Or just stop running on the assumption I'm throwing out my uninformed opinion. He was oc for 1 season at Baylor. Sure they were 10-3 and 6-3 in conference, but their schedule wasn't very impressive.. again... they played some p5 teams that could be easily swapped with mid major.
But they werent mid majors were they?

How many Heisman Trophies do Briles have. I don’t think Weinke should run the O but work with the QBs would be a plus.
I'll check and Briles may not have been the OC at Baylor but didn't Robert Griffen III win the heisman while playing at Baylor.
PS: K.Briles was inside receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in 2011 when RG III won the heisman. Promoted to OC at Baylor prior to 2015 season. 4 years total as OC.

Apparently between UT and FSU and Briles has his pick. UT Job is 10x the job at FSU. Taggart my not survive another season. No brainer, imho.

Coleman reported Briles was meeting with Tennessee tonight and meeting with us tomorrow.
Either way, I'd imagine he will have interviewed for both jobs and be hired by someone by Monday.

I'm not sure if this is a workable solution but after ironing out all the coaching changes on this staff that would likely be required to get him here the offense would definitely benefit under Briles. It still would take at least his 2nd year to see any noticeable gain.
BTW.....FSU is already listing him as their OC on wikipedia....LOL!

So Weinke playing college football and understanding how to win a heisman is the same as being on a staff of someone that won a heisman? Ok I guess I can see how that could be better🤣🤣🤣

Imo not going to bring another OL coach in and Friend stay. That's like having two women in the house.

I would think being OC under a head coach with a defensive background is more appealing than being OC under a coach with a offensive background. Briles is at the point in his carrier where he is 3 to 4 years from a HC gig and he needs a opportunity to prove what he knows. He has already learned from working under great offensive minded HCs.

I understand him wanting to bring his OL coach, they have a good chemistry and the OL coach knows what the OC already wants. He would have to teach Friend, does Pruitt turn control of the offense over? If yes, then that includes hires. This was just posted on FSU 247.

I’m hearing Briles will meet with Willie Taggart when he arrives back Tallahassee on Sunday. The two sides have already had discussions throughout the week, but have not met face-to-face. Taggart is currently out on the road recruiting but will return to campus on Sunday. I’m told by multiple sources that Briles either met, or spoke with, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt about the Vols offensive coordinator position on Friday. It’s unclear what came of that, but it looks like Briles is still planning a meeting with Taggart.

As we reported earlier this week, Briles recently signed a three-year extension with Houston. His buyout will be around 850k and we’re told that if Briles and Taggart can agree on a hire, then the money would be there for the buyout and also funds available to give Briles a substantial raise to come to Florida State.

I’m not going to put a timeline on a hire. However, if Briles makes it in tomorrow and things go well then an offer could be forthcoming.

There's a fairly common statement about this."the best players, don't always make the best coaches".
When given a choice, I always prefer the one who teaches great players, not the one that benefits from that teaching.

Reasons why Briles will or won’t be the FSU OC. Brings up interesting other candidates and one that would be a GRAND SLAM at TN. However, I didn’t think he was looking??? Jeff Scott would kill it at TN and severely hurt CU and their recruiting. I’m sure upsetting Higgins wouldn’t hurt UT’s feelings none.

Thoughts on Florida State’s offensive coordinator search
Clemson Rivals reported that Pruitt approached Scott with an offer and was rebuffed. Not sure of the veracity.

I have to recant my statement that It’s Briles after a phone conversation I had. Don’t think Briles is what we are looking for. No more insider tips for you guys😂
