Josh Dobbs (merged)

I'm fine if the Steelers cut him. Someone will pick up him, and it'll be someone I like more than the Steelers. I know this, because there is no one that I hate more than the Steelers.

Complete BS. And no, neither I nor anybody else recalls you predicting anything for Watson last year after you constantly dogged him as a “poor man’s Josh Dobbs”. Dear God.

Fact is, you have neither any idea what you’re looking for or what you’re looking at when watching a football player or a football game.

Also, what you do, consistently, time and time again, is dismiss player statistics when they don’t favor your argument and tout them, use them for evidence when you believe it furthers your point. I and others have pointed out, called you out on your hypocrisy here countless times.

Speaking of statistics.....

Chad Kelly at Denver, who is now at least the 2nd string QB at this point.....21-30, 267 yards, 3tds, 1 int, 8.9 yards per attempt, 117 rating.

Lol. But of course, nothing but crickets from you here.

You really wanna go down this road again?

Aren't you the one that argued with me for nearly a year about whether or not Deshaun Watson was prone to knee injuries?

What happened last year after 6 games? That's right. Exactly what I predicted. A knee injury.

Deshaun Watson is a Josh Dobbs-esque talent. But he will not leave a legacy in the NFL close to the one Dobbs will leave because he's not durable. Its unfortunate but that is simply the way it is.

Ahhhh....the greens eyes of jealousy...SIX Rings.

maybe you have a legit reason.......

Let's examine some D4H hypocrisy shall we ..
He's terrible. He can't throw. He can't read defenses. For being a rocket scientist he continues to make dumb reads.

Dobbs should be benched.
Maybe to the ignorant masses. Dobbs has no issues with his accuracy or decision. He's sometimes inconsistent which is normal for a young player. Once he gets better coaching in the NFL and has better talent around him, those inconsistencies will decrease..

I'm smart because I know how to learn from previous mistakes. Thinking a future NFL legend should also be a legend in college was a mistake I've learned from.

This is one of the main reasons I'm not high on guys like Deshaun Watson and Leonard Fournette. Typically the college legends like Vince Young and Reggie Bush end up as busts in the NFL.

I said before the season that I expected Watson to be very successful in year 1. I just don't see it lasting very long. It never does for college legends like him who either win the national title or the Heisman.

That doesn't sound like "I predicted him to win Offensive ROY" to me.

Fact is, D4H was right about Dobbs in the first quote and that hasn't changed. Mid-level arm strength, poor decision making skills and reading defenses is still a weak spot. As an NFL QB, you can't go out hoping to be the best athlete on the field and think that will be enough to get by. Most QBs in the NFL are far from great overall athletes but they can sling it around really well and can see a defense and figure out where the progression should start and finish pre-snap. But instead of just seeing the obvious, and it is obvious, D4H will feel the Steelers, who he also gloated over as an organization previously, will be idiots for letting Dobbs go. Maybe Dobbs should not make the same mistake guys like Tebow made and stop trying to ONLY be a QB. As a WR or back of some sort, he would probably actually start getting some regular season snaps.

Hey Butchna! I come into this thread to read about Dobbs chances in NFL and usually find people discrediting Dobbs and telling D4H how much greater somebody else is, because apparently he thinks too highly of him. (Tell me where i'm wrong?) Frankly, I don't care anything about Mason Rudolph, while Dobbs is probably my second favorite Vol ever. He's having a great preseason, and I am rooting for him to get a chance to show that he might be a great quarterback for somebody. We all know he is a gamer. Butch Jones would have been fired years ago if it wasn't for him, and we know he was reluctant to give him a chance. NFL gave Johnny Manziel all kinds of chances, so why not Dobbs?

So basically you admit you're biased and you're mad that everyone else isn't as biased as you.

I know this is a D4H post but I didn't want to just start another thread.

As a Steeler fan and someone who follows this team very closely, Dobbs is in a very unfortunate position right now and is getting the raw end of the deal. Pittsburgh before the start of last season signed Landry Jones to a 2-year contract worth I believe $4 million. And now they have drafted another QB which came as a complete surprise because Pittsburgh almost never drafts QBs so drafting one in back to back drafts came as a shock. I think that through these first two preseason games its clear to anyone with a pair of eyes that Dobbs has out-performed Rudolph. However, Rudolph will maintain the roster spot because I don't think Pittsburgh wants to admit they made a mistake by trading up for a second QB in two-years.

It's quite unfortunate because as a UT-alum and huge Steelers fan I jumped out of my chair during draft day last year when we drafted Dobbs. I was ready to buy a Dobbs jersey the moment they went on sale but I held off and am glad I did. I'm still holding out hope that they decide the contract they gave Landry isn't worth the money when he isn't a very large upgrade (if even an upgrade at all) on Dobbs. I would much rather them cut/trade Landry, unload his contract, and stick with the two young guns that have a lot of unknown potential. Steeler fans know what they get with Landry Jones which is a mediocre QB who will keep you in games against sub-par teams. He doesn't have many fans.

Jones gets to go against the Titans Sat. Titans defense hasnt played alot this year in the two earlier games so I suspect Jones will see more action vs a starting D.

I wish Josh all the luck in the world and proud he was a Tennessee Vol!

If Steelers cut Dobbs, he'll be signed by someone very quickly. There's a huge QB shortage in the league right now and Josh is a top level kind of guy. Every team could use one like him.

I hope that Dobbs can ride the momentum into another solid or even great showing on Saturday. If he can just eliminate that one INT per game he has then it would help him monumentally in establishing himself as a leader for a roster spot. I'm crossing my fingers that the good lord above keeps Dobbs on Pittsburgh. I would love for my NFL team to have a Volunteer leading the way and Mason does not impress me at all.

It would be nice, and arguably the better long term solution, that Dobbs is kept and Jones released. The Steelers just got through trading two picks just to move up to draft Rudolph so the odds of him being cut are almost nil. The problem is the Steelers are not in rebuilding mode and in pretty much everyone's top 10, if not top 5, preseason power rankings. This creates a real concern that if Big Ben gets nicked up for a game or two somebody with actual experience that has won real NFL games could make a real difference vs a couple guys, regardless of what one might think of their abilities, that have never taken even a garbage time snap.

Exactly. Thus my belief that Dobbs in a week or two will no longer be on the Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster. It's unfrotunate because I think long-term it would be wise to keep him. I mean they just drafted him last year. 6 preseason games is not enough to judge a quarterback on. He has improved since being drafted and you can tell having a true-QB coach is improving his passing already. You know exactly what you are getting with Landry and that is a mediocre performance that could lead you to a win against mid-level NFL teams but won't get you anywhere further. I would rather role the dice on both this season and Ben's health than to cut Dobbs and be faced with a Landry/Rudolph backup for the next few years. But things are not looking good and most likely I will have to be cheering on Dobbs from a different team.

If I were a GM or NFL HC, to sign Dobbs, I'd have to ask myself, "could I put him on the field if I had to, and honestly expect him to execute, and win?" I just don't see the answer being yes, given what we've seen so far; no way he survives a 1st string NFL defense.

He's not going to get enough reps and coaching on a practice squad to make a difference at this point, if he can't find a spot as at least a 3rd string, then his NFL days are most likely over

Not having a quality QB coach while at UT put him at a severe disadvantage.

Okay let's be fair here, let's apply that same criteria to every single QB currently on a preseason roster playing for a spot. How many QBs realistically meet that criteria? Honestly, not very many QB1s even meet that criteria. The Browns, Jets, Bills, etc. have been asking themselves which QB can they rely on to execute and win for practically a decade now. Half the league has a franchise QB and the other half either has a suspect QB1 or some pretty awful backups that have shown nothing to separate themselves. Dobbs has shown enough so far throughout his first 6 preseason games to at least put himself in the conversation as a quality 2nd string option and maybe even worthy of an experiment as a starter to see what he provides.

Very few QBs are ready to succeed from day 1 in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers didn't take a regular season snap for several years. I don't think Dobbs has been in the league long enough to for us to say he is or is not an NFL QB.
