We should have listened to Dooley

Jeez, seeing Butch Jones on this reminded me that I need to call my attorney and finish the paperwork for a law suit for last years football team. They totally contributed to an unhealthy liver.

I wonder if Botch's money he gets from Tennessee is deposited in First Tennessee Bank?:D

I new Dooley was a wash when we lost to UNC at the bowl game. Although I had a reason to hope, I couldn't. I just had this awful feeling that it was over and we really were bad. I tried to get excited at times, but as with Jones, I knew afyet the Oklahoma game that we would never recover ... And we didn't.
You knew based on a loss that the whole CFB world recognized as unfair? A loss that precipitated a rule change that would have prevented the loss?

He should be depositing that money into the local drug and alcohol rehabs. God knows he contributed to some of those issues last season. I almost turned into one of those Emo kids and was 2 days shy of cutting myself prior to his dismissal.

Dooley did not have an SEC roster. Kiffin ran off some guys and a lot of the guys he couldn't steal on the way out the door either left on their own or got kicked out of school. When Dooley got here, other SEC programs were pushing the envelope on recruiting but the Vols we on such strict probation that I recall people worrying we might get a bowl ban and scholarships cut when Dooley violated the bump rule. Dooley is a better coach than Butch IMO.

I was close to giving myself CTE from hitting my head into my desk and the wall during last season's games;)

That game was the first time as a grown A$$ man that I shat my pants! I was there. Jeez!

I never accepted (and still dont accept) that if you are a great head coach that it would take YEARS to turn around a program like UT and that's all Jones ever wanted to talk about.

Tennessee is an approx 3-year turnaround job. It isn't a turnaround job like Alabama or Florida, and definitely not like Georgia circa 2016. All of those schools have built-in, structural advantages over Tennessee as football programs. Tennessee is always going to have to work harder than those schools to achieve the same results.

That's why the excuses were OK until about 2015. When he couldn't use an excuse anymore (i.e., "We're still young") he moved onto other ones. I think he never truly understood what expectations were and just how big of a deal football is at UT. I think he knew it was a big deal, certainly a bigger deal than it was at Cincinnati, but he didn't know how much bigger. He probably genuinely thought going 9-4 with a blowout win over a mid-level Big 10 team in the bowl was a great achievement, especially considering we were 5-7 when he took over. All of those things are problems he had. I agree that Butch was never a "good coach," by Tennessee standards but that fact didn't truly show itself until 2015.

I don't know if Pruitt is a great coach or not. However, I can guarantee you he knows precisely what the expectations are and how big of a deal football is here.

This was not a shot at the fans. This was a shot at the administration. As has been proven to be a cluster. That does not discount that Dooley was a total clown of a coaching hire.

The right coach (whether he's already here or not) will be able to get this current UT team to a bowl in year 1 and would be winning double digits by year 3 at UT. Like you said, maybe we have that guy now and maybe we dont. Just have to see. But that's how I see this program. You should be winning more than 9 games in year 3.

The problem had nothing to do with anything except Dooley's inabilities as a head coach.

Tennessee V Missouri 2012. Tied up with a minute to go inside Missou territory with one of the best offensive threats in the SEC (Cordarrelle Patterson), and he decides to take a knee. 4 OTs later we lose. Why oh why did we chose that moment to listen to him. He can try to blame others for his lack of success, but I've seen him at the best of his worst.

It might take Jeremy Pruitt as long as it took Johnny Majors to completely turn the Tennessee football program around to a power once again. It took Johnny 7 years from 1977-1983 to get that accomplished.

We did almost receive a bowl ban... because of how low the APR of our football team was in 2012-13. We went from bad to worse under Dooley, we went from bad to better to worse under Jones but saying that Dooley was better than Jones ignores the fact that Jones did have back to back 9 win seasons... Dooley never won more than 6 games in his 3 seasons here.

I'm not sure what he really means by that comment. I would understand if it meant the staff was undermining him ..... I have seen that before and on different occasions. Usually they are no win situations for many involved. As the one "in charge", and the fact he failed, says more about him. Look, as stated, if you have a recruiting season with no OL recruits, that's a huge red flag in a conference where you win or lose in the trenches.

He isn't P5 coaching material as yet, if ever, but he may know a good offense. Whether he can call plays is another matter That, IMO, is an art form. Just because you know offenses does not mean you can consistently call winning football.

The only thing I can think of, is that he is trying to blame someone else for the Sunseri hire.
