Vols get new commit from GA DE Roman Harrison

The other question is this. Are we so confident that we will land many of these highly ranked guys that we are able to also take some developmental guys that have potential or are we taking under the radar guys because thats all we can get? We'll know the answer to that one on NSD, and as a betting man, id put money on the former, not the latter.

Right now i agree with you and i think Tennessee will be taking quite a few of those players the next few seasons as Coach Pruitt rebuilds the football program.

Tennessee i think can have a top 10 recruiting class in 2019:rock: That's an interesting chart, thanks. Wow,i didn't expect Tennessee's 2019 recruiting class was six places ahead of Clemson:thumbsup:

My personal opinion is that where we finish will be pretty heavily correlated to what our record is. Kids and their familys wanna see improvement and a chance to play in truly meaningful games by their Junior and Senior years and fair or not Pruitt is gonna be judged heavily by elite players based on what he does this year. My best guess would be it shakes out like this. Wins are reg season not bowls btw

5 wins- top 20ish
6 wins- 15-18
7 wins- 8-12
8 wins- top 8 and a truly elite class

Just a theory. Flame away.

I do think Tennessee wins 8 games this season and the 2019 recruiting class could be #5-#8 because of that.

Im just saying if we found a way to somehow get to 8 the recruits would be confident enough to flock in. And again, just my thoughts.

Not if you want to win the East

Tennessee isn't going to win the SEC East the next few seasons and with the rebuilding job that needs to be done and it's the sad truth. I think the Tennessee football program is pretty much the same level it was from 1977-1982 and 2010-2013 and the Vols fans will have to be patient.

Like I've said before about previous recruits that are supposedly best kept secrets, I hope the kid is an All American here. But there has been a recurring theme with our last 3 coaching staffs, that they are recruiting savants that seem to unearth superstars that every other coaching staff in America would love to have, yet somehow never offer, despite having similar resources and coaches who identify talent same as we do. I simply wonder, why is it different this time?

We have also seen a coach that was recruiting solely on "stars" and did not have the results everyone wanted due to poor/lazy coaching at the end of an illustrious career.

Another diamond in the rough!

He was unrated a few months ago. Now he is already up to #515.

Supposedly a freak athlete. High jump was over 39 inches!

Whats up Fade? Long time no talk. Your logic that taking players of his caliber "Wont win the East" is completely wrong. Heres why.

Roman Harrison is our lowest ranked current commit and is rated at .8566 by 247 composite.

In 2014 Georgia finished 8th overall in recruiting and took commits ranked
.8491
.8448
.8348

2015- 6th
Commits
.8594
.8579
.8574
.8574
.8569
.8568
.8519
.8513
.8307
.8072

2016- 6th
Commits
.8594
.8489
.8408
.8032

So in the 3 classes prior to their 2017 East Championship they took 17 recruits who were very similar or lower.

Stars DO matter more than they don’t. But they aren’t everything either. Otherwise you wouldn’t have guys like Marshawn Lynch, Tom Brady, JJ Watt, etc.

Cam Sutton, John Kelly are recent examples of guys that played well above their rankings.

Kongbo, Richmond, K-MAC are guys that did little else than take up room on the other side of the star chart.

This Roman guy’s numbers are hard to just ignore. Dude is athletic as can be for a guy his size. I think Pruitt is big on “motor” guys. Like Barnett type players, they just will themselves by shear determination into play makers. Technical stuff can be taught, but determination and drive are just born into someone I think. Pruitt goes after that more than technical guys bc he knows he can coach them up on everything else.

It’s too soon to say whether or not Pruitt’s Secret Scouting System works, but it just seems a little early for some of these guys to get offers, or maybe they will just be gitshirted later.

Harrison had great stats / impact his junior season regardless of playing under-sized at his position. I would give his hs coaches kudos for taking advantage of his skill set. He’s 6-2 240 and playing NT / DT, and he still dominated at the point of attack. Not many power 5 schools are looking for a tackle that size. But he does fit the protypical size and explosiveness of an OLB / MLB in UTs new scheme.

UT coaches put him through an individual workout and were very impressed by his athleticism. He’s fast, athletic, mean, intense and very strong. I really like this guy.

My only question would be, does he play any other sports?

I think he is 3 star ranked basketball player

Patience is the key. But I dont know how much some fans have. I have read in here many times that we will know if Pruitt is the right guy in year one. With the way Georgia is trending, I dont see us winning the East for at least 3 years.

I think if JP doesnt win 9 and sign a top 5 class in year 2, people will be calling for his head.

If Tennessee dumps Coach Pruitt after 3 seasons they will be looking to hire Dlll or NAIA head coaches because nobody else will want the job:rolleyes: However,I think Phil Fulmer will be very patient:hi:

Tennessee right now can't recruit with Alabama,Georgia and Clemson and that's the way it is but i think it will get better in the future. If you think Tennessee can recruit with Alabama,Georgia and Clemson right now you're not realistic.

Butch Jones was close though -- he just couldnt coach and would not hire a real OC, but some how he had recruiting magic in him and iirc this was on the ESPN site today Travon Walker, defensive tackle, commits Georgia Bulldogs

Whether we believe it or not... this is a reach in the fashion of Butch Jones.

I was expecting a MUCH better showing recruiting wise with Pruitt.

We are running short on schollies and continue to load up on lower ranked (or unranked) players.

The kid is 6’2 240 lbs runs a 4.6 40 39 inch vertical..... how is that a reach?

I've posted this before but I really believe that Fulmer would still be the hfc at UTK if he could've kept Donta Hightower home. Recruiting has to be ruthless. I hope these guys are ruthless but I'm not convinced.

Magic w the wrong way to do things ... if you are as small and out of shape of a team we have have been last few years, those stud WRs and RBs are worthless. Have any idea of how many of our committments are lineman?

We getting beefed up ...

Fulmer was fried bc our offense tanked......how would Hightower have helped that?
