Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVI

This is my opinion.

Haslam was losing, we were winning.

Haslam recognized what was happening. He realized that his F-U candidates (Doeren, et al) were intensifying public outcry.

He flipped tactics. Proffered a decent coach (NOT elite, sorry) and offered the SHAM of saying "Currie is pulled from the search."

Currie is still AD.

Haslam's influence is intact.

The coach can and will be undermined by Haslam after the hire.

The cycle continues.

Except the cycle will stop for this particular fan.
Thanks for answering me Exile. One more question - is it possible that Currie will get credit for this hire but then have to resign so that way he is allowed to “go out” on a positive? Perhaps he will still be out? Or are you hearing the opposite would be true?

Question how did you feel about Brohm possibly being hired?

How do you fell about the search that Currie and Haslam have conducted? I don't have any feeling on the brohm deal. Who knows if Currie didn't screw that up himself which is probably what happened. The search has been a sham from the start, would you not even agree with that? Nothing against Brohm but if the search had been done right in the beginning we wouldn't be looking like this. If people stick their heads in the sand and let them keep on keeping on nothing is really going to change.

38-37 in 6 years at Wash St, look it up. Nothing fake about it at all. I edited didn't mean to hit the 6, but just quit with your fake news.

BS you've posted the same wrong info in several threads. You only edited it because someone finally called you on your BS.

FAKE NEWS!

Tennessee fans have been absolutely amazing through this. By any objective measure, our fans are the most loyal, passionate, engaged, and fiercely determined in all of college football. Perhaps in all of sports.

I hope the chatter is false. I hope Leach gets a fat raise from Wazzou, and that Currie is fired tomorrow.

I hope.

Well if Exile is right, it would appear the fans wanted change and the other boosters didn't.

GTFO dude! Tell me what is that different from 38-37 and 68-67. I didn't have to put a 6 on it to make my point. It was a typing error it doesn't change the percentage. But keep looking stupid if you must. Anybody with a brain can figure out that's about 500 average in 6 years. I've been on here a lot longer than you. I know what average is and 38-37 in 6 years is average.

I'm concerned that the people who were fighting against Haslam influence at higher levels may have agreed to Leach.

Currie is still AD.

Agreeing to a coach, any coach, while Currie is employed at UT is absolutely a win for Haslam as far as I am concerned. If someone, anyone, would care to come in and argue that it would be anything other than a Haslam win, I will hear you out.

Good luck with that.

If they agreed to leach then they weren’t really fighting.

we don't need a pirate with a quirky personality that likes banquet beer

I, like many others would like to see more wins than 7 or 8 and contend for the east every year, instead of more complacency

are we hiring a coach to watch his after game press conference and giggle? pretty sure Saban wasn't hired for quirkyness or dumba** press conferences that often leave you dumber than you were before it even started

Look, you can leave this process as bitter as you want. A lot of good things were accomplished during this time (by the way, it's not over until somebody stands on the podium). UT fans stood up against a well funded and powerful opponent and won! We brought the dysfunctional operations of the athletic department to light and stopped a horrible hire. I'm proud to be a Vol fan.

I'll leave this coaching search --- no matter how it ends --- like I always do; tired but hopeful for improvement. But I won't give up on my team or school. I won't carry the bitterness of this search with me. If you choose to do that, I feel sorry for you.

I have not heard that. It is technically possible.

I look at it from the standpoint of when you are engaged in battle, you don't give the enemy what he wants. You don't leave the enemy standing and capable of regrouping to attack you again.

Did we learn nothing from the Schiano betrayal?

This is the only thread I have posted in, your the one full of BS. I haven't posted in several threads since the search started.

I agree, I think the power is shifting. I don’t see Leach as a Haslam hire honestly. I want them out as much as you, but his brother is the gov, they are our biggest boosters, and control almost the entire BoT, overthrowing that is gonna be a long process, not overnight

They're losers man. Can't you look around? We're going downhill. I watch UT to see 'em win not be embarassed. Can't get a hometown kid who was born and raised a Vol. Leach or no one else is gonna do chit at UT. Win a few games and some exciting offense every once in a while. Ending up 7-5, 8-4 every damn year until they cut loose of the cash and get a serious coach in here and give him the reins. That's how champions are. Why you have the same ones in the playoff the last 3-4 years? Use them as a model and see how they do things. Then see how much revenue they generate.

Yes, I see what you mean. It wouldn’t be giving back to him like he did to UT with the Schiano deal. At the same time, I wonder if letting him leave on a “win” and then him resigning (thereby saving UT money) could be a good strategy. Perhaps Gruden isn’t interested at this point and so hiring someone who can’t be easily controlled and is a pretty good coach felt like a win for the “good guys.” I hope Gruden comes, obviously, but I have no way of knowing if he still wants to. I’m just trying to think of a reason the boosters might have decided to go this route.

Now, we may wake up tomorrow to the news that Leach turned us down as well, right? :)

122-80 career... Wasu was worse than Vandy (3 wins a yr) when he took over and now they compete and beat UsC and Stanford...

I'm going to bed. Been burning the candle at both ends and the middle too.

All I can say is that regardless of who is or isn't fighting above us, the common fans should continue to insist, in every possible medium, that the Haslam influence be eradicated from our university.

Fire Currie First.

Edit: yes, I want to wake up to news that Mike Leach got a nice fat raise at Wazzu.

He does make me laugh.

I'm not sold that this happens. This war has been going on publicly on VN for over a month. This program has been burnt to the ground in the last week and is coming off it's worst season in history.

Why stop when you're about to bayonet your enemy in the heart? I'm confused and need some clarity. This will need spelled out to me in black and white, no cloak and dagger sh**.

That's a 604 lifetime average. Nothing that says great hire, and going into the SEC it looks average. If we was so hot why hasn't some big school went after him. He finally had some good teams his last 3-4 years at Texas Tech and goes to Wash St. Many jobs out there and we don't look at him until Currie has went to everybody and their mother. But some like him because he scores against the easy competition. Not saying he can't coach but this is not a home run hire, it isn't even a double in my opinion. We should do better, FIRE CURRIE and do not let him make this hire.

I'm hopeful that this isn't over...but I'm going to need some help staying motivated. I see crumbs laying around but they're harder to find.
