Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

I had looked at Vol Nation for years but after viewing this Gruden thread this October, I had to finally join. I could not resist the belief, hope and camaraderie of all you guys on here. Thanks for carrying this rookie and putting up with any trivial thing I had to post. ALL of you made this football season bearable. This is not good-bye, hope we can carry the Gruden thread out till we have a new coach and maybe start another till we fire Currie. I think though we would prefer the latter before we get our new coach. Thank You all. Please the example I am about to give is not any kind of political statement but a great example of what I am trying to say. I would like to leave you with this, After the Civil War the south was in ruins and many talked about leaving the south even to other countries. When Lee heard of this he basically said in summary you can't leave, the south needs her sons more than ever. Please don't leave ,Tennessee needs you more than ever!

vols have hands down the worst pr in the history of football. might as well hire craig james to come k5h@ut.

I agree Ape! And to make matters worse, we still have an AD that should have got the axe yesterday, and he doesn’t even have the spine to come out in person and explain his actions...sends out a memo on Twitter!

What a coward!

That's what I've been thinking about the whole time, something is absolutely *****y

I was talked my about this all day at work. None of this lines up other than the complete betrayal by Currie and Haslem. Blows my mind how one minute CBS is reporting we’re talking to Gruden and then bam Shiano out of left field. Lyle 2.0.

But after everything still no mention of gruden. Like it never happened. There is some serious smoke going on. None of it adds up

I bet an overwhelming percentage of people who were angry about the hire had no idea of his "past" and didn't even know it until they saw the rock.

I knew it....

If OSU wants to have him on their staff.... SMDH. That's their problem.

Just not on mine.

Oh I am not saying it didn't play into yesterday's events. What I am saying is that yesterday's events are being viewed in some heroic light that we/someone saved the day from Tennessee hiring a "morally deficient man" when in fact we just tried to get a better football coach. I bet the info regarding Penn State didn't start the fire but only added fuel later. The we turn it into a narrative about how morally upright we are. That's the problem. If it were a "homerun-hire-coach" with Penn State ties we wouldn't have said a word.

There would not be a home run hire with those ties. The two are mutually exclusive. We did do a great thing.

I disagree completely. We've had our share of issues over the last few years, and nobody wanted anything to do with anyone even linked to that mess. If he were a home run hire we would've seen it coming and you wouldn't be speculating like it's fact that we'd be okay with it. Yesterday's events were completely out of left field, which contributed to the chaos. But, and this is significant I think, Hyams and Fuad were talking about how his ties to Penn St made him completely undesirable. They were saying SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER THE VANDY LOSS. It had everything to do with the Penn St situation. The court of public opinion isn't, by definition, one that allows due process. We have every right to demand a coach who, with absolute certainty, has NOT been involved in any such events.

I am not saying that Schiano was a good hire. I don't at all. You can't touch a person who was involved with PSU during those years and not think it will come up. What I am saying is that we have unfortunately created a narrative that the reason we said "NO" to the hire is that we are morally upright...when in truth the main reason we were all angry is that the hire was horrible for a variety of reasons.

I hope they wanted him to go. But now they’re stuck with him. Why this man didn’t try to clear his name is beyond me. It’s been out there but now that we care, suddenly others care if we say anything about it. Like they’re mad we brought it up. That, in itself, is shady.

Speak for yourself. I didn't want him because of the Penn state scandal, period. After I heard more info from NFL days it just confirmed my beliefs.
