Official Jon Gruden thread 32.

I was even thinking tonight with the more than USD comment that maybe part of the payment was buying the house in Knoxville for Gruden, an immediate hard asset.

I want to believe but last go round and the history of UT have always caused pause. Until at the podium nothing is 100%.

If this deal is solid he doesn't talk to Tampa. Period. If it got this far, he has had all the time to thoroughly do his due diligence and he is coming. Still hopeful, but not 100% until at the podium.
Can't argue with that. You r right. People leave contingencies in everything these days. Man, it would be nice to have a million dollar home payed for you, and getting paid millions of year on top of that.

I'm with ya on that one

But... Currie better pull a Gruden out of his pocket when the smoke clears

No more science projects.

If they can spend 340MM more on Neyland, then they can sure pony up the money for a big dog coach

Honestly, I like Butch coaching it out. He made this sh!t sandwich, he can eat it.

Let's think about this logically which I know is hard to do!

If we believe Trey Wallace's tweets and on air (radio) appearances this week regarding Gruden having full access to Haslam's plane, why in the world would he loan the plane if Gruden is going to interview in Tampa?!?

That would make zero sense to have him potentially trying to get a job that is direct competition to his family ownership of the Brown's. The Haslams may be a lot of things, but they aren't stupid. They aren't going to let someone use their resources to potentially compete against them!

If Gruden was to become HC at UT, Ithink the most surprising thing will be he loves recruiting. Not dealing with the immature 17 year olds but the fact that he gets to look at a board and say let’s get him, him, and him, without having to worry about a contract or a salary cap

I’m not a recruiter per se, but my job requires heavy involvement in identifying talent, assessing talent, and acquiring talent. Usually when there are other firms involved and other offers on the table.

Getting the “yes” from the people we want when they have money on the table from our competitors is very satisfying. One of my favorite parts of the job.

To chalk recruiting in CFB up to “whiny 17 year olds” like many do is a total mistake. Winning at that level, knowing they’re going to move the needle for you in the future is exceptionally exhilarating.

The ONE Butch Jones quote I think is absolute truth and he was 100% right about was when a player made a play and his comment was “we won’t that play on the recruiting trail.”

Gruden would love it, and kill it.

If the money is there and they've made admin changes on his behalf, I don't see him not coming.

So in other words, any potential meeting with Tampa could be a cover if Butch is let go earlier than Currie had expected. If JG is 'entertaining' the Tampa position he's not as serious a candidate which causes the growing grumors to die down a bit, allowing the situation to unfold as intended.

Still think that's bad for recruiting, but I've always been in the 'right hire' mindset.

Does that theory resonate at all?

I could maybe consider buying that... basically let Gruden be his own smokescreen...hmmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔

Is Butch gone before Monday, and are you still feeling good about Gruden?

The last timing I was given is he would not coach s miss Obviously that was wrong. I just don't see how he cannot be let go at this point. I do think John wanted to ride it out in hopes of getting enough wins for a bowl. I believe he saw canning Butch as a sure way to not win enough games. That now seems to have passed. I honestly give Gruden a 50/50. I hope it pans out as I think it is the most upside especially for the splash. Anyone is going to be a gamble but I would bet my money on him being the best coach to get us back the fastest.

From what i 100% know, UT has made the required monetary offer and have also done some admin changes that where required too.

Everything that Jon needed to make it happen, has happened. Currie has cut off a lot of info so the info that comes is spotty and incomplete.

Didnt see this til after my post

So what is your opinion? Currie is incompetent, Gruden is a pipe dream, etc?

I don't know about Currie. I'll have to wait to see how this plays out. I hope he has a master plan, and has his mind made up on Butch. It all boils down to who he hires as coach. If this situation is prolonged, and he ends up hiring a Frost or Taggart or - God forbid - worse, then I will think he is an idiot.

My opinion on Gruden is that it's not a pipe dream, but I think his preference is to coach in the NFL. Just my opinion. I don't know the man, but I do think it odd that he hasn't accepted yet IF the rumored offer is true. That deal would probably make Saban think twice about coming here.

Some of you are ****in pansies. Not one of The Insiders make you believe a damn thing. Info changes from day to day on a coaching search. Especially high profile searches. You should read and form your own opinion. Confidence in info does not mean it is done. You have to remember the info they share is passed to them

It's because Butch disrespects VFLs and has tarnished the sheen of our beloved VOLS even in our colors! We should burn anything Smokey gray! We are ******* ORANGE AND WHITE! Butch has never embraced that! At least Dooley wore the pants and Pearl wore the jacket! Butch never wears the Orange! Lookin at a lake of sh!t and pickin on one turd.

I get it, he will be gone very soon. Take a 2 week vacation from UT and when you come back, you will be happy.

I don't totally disagree but I really want to avoid that 8 loss season. I know it sounds silly, but it's our last source of pride at this point.

I do too, but I don't think any coach on that staff does any better than Butch. It just is what it is. I pray we beat Vandy.
