Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

If you want to go that route, he went on to say he was all in on Tennessee getting Gruden in 2012 just to appeal to listeners and get clicks. Claimed to have no knowledge on the situation later, but lead people on to believe that Gruden was coming.

Then what would change his mind this time?

Pro-Gruden:
-Beaver
-Atlanta_Vol
-DTO
-Volfan30
-Hutch
-JAV
-Price
-Hubbs
-Swain

Anti-Gruden:
-Hyams
-Ainge
-Deerpark

Am I close?

edit: added Deerpark

Jav isnt pro or anti. Just a bit skeptical, as is Larry.

I dont disagree with this. I also believe he is still fighting to stay.

He has failed miserably and a casual fan could see that.

If he wasn't outright fired then I'm guessing he was given goals to reach in order to keep his job.

There is no way he has been able to meet those conditions after the Kentucky loss imo.

You don't retain a coach that gives your team it's second loss in 30 years to a bottom feeder like UK.

Then what would change his mind this time?

Not being on a low power, upstart station.

You want to believe these talkers are giving you sincere analysis, but a lot of times it's what they've decided to talk about based on a production meeting.

Ainge is taking bets that Gruden will never be the head coach at UT. Says he is just trolling our entire fanbase.

If Ainge would give me +1800 odds (since it's supposedly NEVER happening), I'd bet him 1,000. Should be an easy 1,000 bet for him, right?

I think he has been told. There is no way a competent ad let's this continue without addressing it with the coach.

The veracity of "competence," in regards to Currie, is debatable. One of two things will happen: he will either go down as an epic failure or a crowned prince.

If it happens to be the latter, I will give Currie his due, but I will also credit Ergen and his team for putting the pressure where it rightfully belonged.

Quote:

.Somebody asked him what his thoughts were about Chip Kelly to Florida. Finebaum responded with he didn't think that's where Kelly's thought process was at. He said he sees Kelly every Sunday morning but would never ask him directly what his plans were, but did say in his opinion there was only one school in the SEC that he thought Kelly would consider coaching at. Laura Rutledge asked Tennessee and Finebaum said yes, if not somewhere out on the west coast.

They then went on to address Jon Gruden possibilities to Tennessee. Both he and Rutledge agreed that at one time it seemed laughable, but they were warming up to the thought a bit more given a little more knowledge of the situation. I thought it interesting that Finebaum went on to say that he thought if Gruden did coach again that it would be at the college level. Just thought he was basically too big of a rock star for an NFL job where most coaches take a back seat with the fans and how that's not the case in college. Both agreed he would kill it recruiting as a closer if he hired the right staff to do the majority of the leg work. Now I paraphrased most of this on memory, but I think it's pretty accurate. Anyway...just thought I'd share.
From TOS about Finebaum

So Ainge knows more than Finebaum?

Finebaum is a trouble maker, especially when it deals with the school he attended. He likes to believe he is in the know, but he is still looking from the outside.

Basillo just said a few minutes ago that Butch HAS Not been told for sure he's fired.

Now that would be a disaster if he was back. Based on many conversations I do believe he is gone.

Basillio can’t bring himself to say the Butch was dismissed...because he avoids “s” words.

Little off topic but if Gruden is hired before the Signing Day Period, do you think he could flip Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields considering he has his own QB camp?

Recruiting wouldn’t take much of a hit as some of ya’ll think.

Eh, it's Gruden. He probably flips BOTH if he wants. lol
