It is clear MIT is connected in circles that 99% of us fall outside of. We share no overlap within that Venn diagram.

What's intriguing to me is that, as you alluded to, MIT is more than pushing dime bags in a dark alley. He is here purposefully, and he's been sent by $$$.
I believe this to be truth.

Yes. He is already filthy rich. He is a national personality and well respected man who intends to live in Knoxville. I would say he cares deeply.

You could very well be correct, but a changing of the guard at least gives me hope that, when the dust settles, the new power won't screw up as bad as the last.

Regardless of what happens, the revelations over the last our combined with how this has played out since Beav & Bubba appeared have made this thread the greatest in VN history.

Can someone sum up the revelations?

Been at work and can’t check the thread regularly

Haslam has controlled the AD for some time (see 2012 & Currie hire). The other booster's are tired of it and presented an ultimatum to the school in the form of a new coach/restructured AD or they go home. UT needs their $$ (see Neyland renos, other new buildings). Academic obstructions cleared out by the introduction of VC into the mix. Only obstacle now is Haslam. Only card he has is control of Currie. Ergen led boosters have all the other cards. Turning up the pressure on Haslam bit by bit.

Time for the young lions to slay the old lion for the good of the pride.

So we actually have a guy like Gruden...the most sought after high profile coach in football actually wanting to come to UT. ..and there is some faction or entity that is working against that happening? Unbelievable.

If Gruden has agreed and is announced, Currie will look like a rockstar. No one...not Currie or Big Jim....will publicly admit they opposed his hiring. They will shut up, get in line, and enjoy the success. I also don't think Currie is opposed. He just doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds him.

Under what theory?

Seems to me under straight negligence you’re going to have a hard time proving causation and any damages. For a lifetime football player, even if you can prove that he was absolutely concussed against Kentucky, and also made to play, what damage did that one injury cause that is recoverable?

If he has a severely damaged brain, that one injury didn’t cause it all, and how do you prove how much of that damage was caused by the single event? If he has a brain that doesn’t show any real damage, how do you prove damages at all?

Edit: important to note that we literally have very little verifiable information. Without that, as an attorney, I’m not even confident speculating. But, as you are, help me see what you see.

I am basing my opinion on what has come out regarding Wells. Damages are the toughest, but honestly this case is going to settle at a premium to avoid a lawsuit. With the current climate regarding traumatic brain injuries and this kid puking after being left in to get beat up some more after the initial injury the university cannot afford to let this thing to get near a courtroom and attract more potential plaintiffs that will claim they were forced play with head injuries.

Every time I read a page, two more appear. Love it.

Question: Since this new information about Haslam being a douche and trying to keep Gruden out - does that make the rumor about Gruden getting the Haslam house BS?

It is BS. Gruden bought a house in Lyon's View, but it is NOT Haslam's.

So Haslam is a monkey wrench now and Ergen is the Grudenite? What the what? How the hell can anyone think Gruden is a possibility with this lunacy running amuck!?! If he was interested he surely can't be now! Unbelievable! I know... I'll stfu and gtfo.

Exactly what I'm saying. "Just sit tight and wait for us, Jon. A lot of people associated with UT don't want to hire you, but we will apply our game theory and force them to hire you anyhow. Doesn't that sound great?"

Nobody in their right mind would take a job under these circumstances, unless they were desperate. I sincerely doubt Jon Gruden is that desperate.

When you have been in power for a long time, giving it up doesn't come easily.

Of course Gruden would be interested. He gets to the hero to come fix his and his wife's university. He's the big fish that enables the change between AA/AD/Power Brokers/Whatever.

He gets paid 53.8% more than he is making right now ($6.5 to $10). If he fails, he still gets a huge payout. He's competitive. He's driven. He gets to move his wife significantly closer to her family, which she would need if he gets back into coaching because he's insane and will sleep 3 hours per night on his couch in his office during the season.

Butch has stopped/been forced to stop recruiting. He's stopped tweeting. He looks defeated in press conferences. UT has a PR nightmare on its hands with Florida firing their coach, concussion issue, etc. The only logical way nothing has been done is because there is one angry kids doll with a visor about to take over our program and soothe all problems before whoopin' the SEC.

Everyone knows the next hire either solidifies or destroys UT football for the next 10 years. And UT football pays for a lot of stuff on campus and around town. They can't get this wrong.

...can they...?

I believe we have our news later this evening/tonight. Beav would probably/hopefully stop by and bring us what we want or what we dread.

maybe it's a conquest prize. Who knows? That's a hell of a house though. As a woman, I don't buy a house like that to see my folks. That's a showpiece house. A primary residence if you will.
