I read it differently. He seems to believe Gruden was the only "top" guy they were going to go for and if he said no they were going to go to their list, which would be everyone's (on here anyway) 2nd tier level coaches. Frost, Brohm, Campbell, Norvell, etc.

I mean you can perceive it how you want to me he is saying clear as mud that he thinks Frost will be the top candidate or already is.

Y'all can go search LWS's posts if you want. I'm not gonna link them all as many are in locked threads and I can't quote them. Use the advanced search tool and search for his posts.

You can tell if you read through them that he doesn't have a clue about who we've talked to. He does say that we have definitely approached Gruden and been shot down again. He thinks that we are gonna reach out to the big names and then we will end up on Frost after they all say no(his opinion). He doesn't think Frost is our top candidate but thinks it will quickly get to him. I kinda agree with him but I think a guy like Dan Mullen will get a call before Frost and I think we could snag him.

Were looking at this two different ways. I’m not saying top overall target but top target right now. He either is our top target already now that we are down the list or “look for him to be he leading candidate” like LWS says which means we are vetting our 2nd tier candidates and he thinks Frost will be the leading candidate.

Larry is already assuming we get turned by every candidate we have above Frost. He doesn't know if that is 6 people or 60 people.

He is smart enough to see Frost is the highest candidate not at a P5 job and is an easy sell.

He thinks Scott Frost is realistic. Not our top target. He thinks all of those are gonna say no.

Your premise was that if we hire Frost it's because others turned us down and your evidence was the 2012 search. Maybe they've identified Frost as the guy and aren't going to try for Patterson, Gundy and all those cats?

I was interpreting Larry's posts.

He said "look for frost to be the leading candidate" but if you read through his posts what he means by that is UT will try all the big names and after they all turn us down eventually we will end up at Scott Frost who he believes we have already reached out to and received back positive feedback.

Potential? What established "top notch" coach is really out there? There are really only a handful, and none of them are available. I'm telling you the next coach, which I expect to be someone that has to be sold, will have to almost perform miracles immediately to turn the skeptics over.

I happen to like Frost, he has real "potential", and I would be glad to have him, but a lot of others wouldn't, first perceived mistake or perceived sub par recruiting class and the firing squad lines up, but I would be the same way over a hire like Meh Mullen or Norvell or Satterfield or.....

I'm not trying or wanting to be a downer, but I have zero reason to believe UT gets anything right, they have botched three hires in a row, and from my perspective they are either the Keystone cops , or they just don't give a crap about being a quality program, they just want to sell us spit sammiches at filet mignon prices, and want us to say "boy that spit was tasty give me another"

Not me.

Another poster asked larry if he thought MC would be a possible candidate and larry answered yes possible.

I wouldn't read too much into that.

But reading Larry's posts he is mostly speculating based on what he has seen us do in the past. Although he seems to think we are gonna bring more money to the table this time.

Larry says he's already turned us down twice, and UT has moved on, and are down the list already..the guy is a jerk, but he is usually right when he puts something specific like this out there.

Gruden is NOT happening Ron. I wish you were right.

Like I’ve said all along no one noes anything especially right now. When Gruden was in Knoxville did some money guys court him around? Sure. Has nothing to do with him being the next head coach. No one is going to have any info at least until we actually have a vacancy and someone’s agent starts leaking stuff.
