You have to be trolling, I dont honestly believe someone is really trying this hard to defend Butch that they lack basic common football knowledge.
Yes, you can teach a QB plenty enough in 1.5 years to be able to teach someone how to change protections. The junior starter wasnt any better, btw.
If we hire him. My worst nightmare would be for UT to somehow find a problem with Frost, hire Bobo, Mcelwain gets out of dodge, then UF hires Frost and he dominates Tennessee for 15 years.
Yes he is. Many of you still see JG with the backup QB mentality, or only looking at his ranking. You're not looking at what's in front of you. JG is not what you thought he was. At least at this moment he's not.
Sure. But how many recievers are we playing that have no experience. We have 1 HB that has any significant experience. There has been a new o line combo every week. A pretty much brand new offensive staff. There is no reason there shouldnt have been a step back this year.
All I'm trying to say with all of this is that fans expecting this offense to be like last years with basically a brand new set of guys with a brand new set of coaches is blind

If we hire Mike Bobo I might be done. He would have to earn my support. Ive given my support to Butch and Dooley and gave them the benefit of te doubt. But if they hire Bobo, Im out.
I used to trust Currie, but with what hes letting Butch do to this program and the fans right now, I dont anymore. We are a joke, a National embarrassment, and Currie isnt doing anything about it. We are going to lose to Ky this weekend with Butch and at this point, its Curries fault. Butch shouldnt have this opportunity to lose this game.

I feel for a lot of the points you are making but we arent the only team that lost playmakers. Yes we lost a great QB, great RB, and a good WR. We had our whole OL returning and the #1 recruit (who has panned out).
Its on the coaches especially butch being the Lead offensive guy that neither of the QBs are good or developed (whichever way you want to look)
And that he cant find a OL and go with it and keep some consistency.
Also him not being able to find WRs/TEs that can make plays in the passing game. We miss Jennings but he wasnt a great WR.
Instead of attacking each other - how about attacking the issues? Let's get past the fire Butch mode. It's going to happen. He is firing himself.
Forget the top candidates - if one happens that's great. Focus on the realistic ones.
I am all in on Frost, Mullen, and Brohm in that order. Each has something special that translates well as a HC. They are strong offensive guys. The primary reason I want them is each is not dependent on innovative offensive schemes to win. Each develops players well. I believe each would view UT as an end destination job. Hugely important.
Frost is unique with having crossover D experience as both a player and coach that makes him really special. No individual player or coach can pull the wool over his eyes ever and would know that when they signed on. He knows exactly who should play what position and how they should play it on both sides of the ball. Which has translated to UCF turning around so quickly. Add in his strong leadership. Future star IMO.
Mullen's been on the national stage and is a top QB developer in a QB centric period of CFB offenses. He also gets lesser talented guys to play at higher than expected levels. He's seen a lot and knows what works in the SEC with NC rings from his UF days. Being at UT would open up his recruiting to stronger talent like he had at UF. We have seen in recent years that upgraded talent adds about 2 wins a year in the east division with just average SEC coaching. Butch has underachieved that because he is good recruiter/bad coach. Mullen has done the opposite. He overachieves with less talent.
I have posted about Brohm previously. Getting it done at a B10 bottom feeder with Saban wanting you as an OC previously. He doesn't throw caution to the wind with wild O schemes that make playing D impossible like a Norvell or Babers. His D is playing well of late, so there is a focus by him on that side of the ball. That makes him a balanced HC - which you need to be to win at a high level.
If it drops below the level of that group, I will reduce my attention to UT football. However, Currie may have somebody in mind not on the current radar that is equally attractive.
Thank you. I'm bot trying to say any of this isnt Butchs fault but I just think fans arent looking at the bigger picture
I've said this before, it isn't that we are losing that has me upset, it is how we are losing. We don't just look inexperienced, we look uncoached and out of shape, especially on offense. We are predictable, uncreative and uninspired.Question I have and just brought up to a fellow vol fan......
If Butch had won the East last year or at least beat Vandy and made it to the sugar bowl is he on this hot of a seat. Before the season most fans said this was a rebuilding year. Yes losing to UF and UGA sucks but if Butch wins out and goes 8-4 he will be in line with preseason predictions. Maybe the media is right and TN fans are a bit unrealistic. The offense is struggling but we only have experince at one position the o line. I mean FSU is in the same boat they lost their starting qb and they look anemic against bad teams as well.
I said all that to say this. Hell no to Frost, Campbell,Mullen or any other mid tier coach. There are only two things that should get Butch fired a losing season or if you can get a homerun higher like a Kelly or Gruden.
If Butch needed to get fired it should have been last year for not meeting expectations not after a rebuilding year if he meets expectations. The AD made their bed by sticking with Butch after last year so they need to ride this out and see what happens, and I think fans just need to take a step back and realize that this is what fans were expecting before the season and quit with all these knee jerk reactions
