Yeah if its an uninspiring hire than Im going to dial back the level at which Ive been following UT football and just limit myself to reading few preseason mags, checking the recruiting class on signing day and watching the games on Saturdays. Been spending way too much time following it all so closely and Im not sure what Ive gotten out of it. I know much more about the inner workings than I really need to know.
...but if we hire Gruden...
None..so? How does anybody know he wouldn't have that year? He managed to win one with the Colts, so..
Someone on TOS is saying Peyton is the intermediary between UT and Gruden. Supposedly is a cousin to Cindy that is posting that.
Lol if you had any idea How big of a micro manager butch is... you would know that no one under him has much say so.
With Peyton Freaking Manning as his QB 😁
Gruden won a super bowl with a team that the previous coach couldn't win a super bowl with and you guys can't take that away from him. After that the team was in terrible cap shape and that was a HUGE deal in those days before the cap grew to be astronomical like it is today. Not to mention the fact that the Bucs gave up a kings ransom in draft picks to get him. Losing 2 first and 2 second round picks hurts.
He coached TWO different NFL teams to great success.
So the Gruden thread had a Brohm rumor . Not very popular over there. Thoughts?
I don't think Gruden is some superhuman coach, but he would school pretty much everyone in the SEC regularly in terms of Xs and Os. Doesn't mean he would win every game. But his football acumen laps everyone else in the conference, and I imagine his assistants would be significantly better than we are used to. Imagine the best of Kiffin and Dooley's (early) staffs and that's about the caliber he'd have, IMO.
Him coaching in the East would be like sending Doc Rivers to coach in the Sun Belt or something.
Yeah because Butch's mico-managing totally made our last two OCs revert to Madden-esque playcalling with telegraphed playcalls, predictable formation usage, and a complete lack of misdirection.
We'll see how many more opportunities Scott gets to run an offense after this season. Dude just isn't cut out for it. Might be a good CEO type of HC one day. Will never be a good OC or playcaller.
