Why not Mike Leach?

Pretty sure he would be the Admiral of the Vol Navy. I could see him pulling up to dock his 32 ft. Sea Ray on game day. How cool would that be!

lost to a 3-3 Cal team and only scored 3 points -- cross the over rated clown off the list

Lol.

I knew this thread would be on top of volnation this morning.

I'll eat crow on this. But it was historical, one of the worst games Leach has ever had. Credit Wilcox, formerly of Tennessee, for outdueling the captain on his own deck. I think it was the poop deck...

Heres Leach...

"We weren’t good in any aspect of the game,” he said. “Cal outcoached and outplayed us at every position that I saw. There may be an exception, but I don’t think there is.

“Every position I saw, Cal outplayed us, they wanted to win more than we did, they tried harder than we did and tried more consistently than we did.”

Falk came into the game leading the nation with 19 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. He was picked off five times Friday, fumbled on a play that was returned for a touchdown and was sacked nine times.

Two WSU touchdowns were wiped away by penalties and seven of its 13 drives ended on turnovers.

It was a brilliant defensive game plan from first-year Cal coach Justin Wilcox and defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter.

Notice how refreshing Leach's honesty is? His first sentence was outcoached.

To be fair two touchdowns called back early were killers. The second was ridiculous of a non existent push off. And the qb play killed washington state. Falk had a terrible game with 6 turnovers.

To be even more fair Falk was just a walkon 2 star who's only offers were cornell and Idaho.

I'd still love to have Leach what happened last night NEVER happens to him.

You can have him out there, don't want him anywhere near Knoxville.

This Mike Leach?

Total Record-Conference Record

2012 Washington State 3–9 1–8
2013 Washington State 6–7 4–5
2014 Washington State 3–9 2–7
2015 Washington State 9–4 6–3
2016 Washington State 8–5 7–2
2017 Washington State 6–1 3–1
Total 35–35 23–26

There seems to be some misconception that if Leach comes here, all you have to do is hire a good defensive coordinator and maybe a few good recruiters and everything will be great.

That's not how it works. If we get him, it will be him just trying to put up 50 points a game, and we'll still lose 3-4 games a year. And I don't see any reason to be confident in the recruiting, which will be the biggest negative when Leach is inevitably forced out.

If you only count these 70 games then yeah but you left out about 127 other games he coached has HC.

Kentucky already tried his brand of football in the SEC under Hal Mumme and it and failed miserably.

Times have changed since the late 90's but this is still a conference predicated on defense and running the football. The running the football comes out of the spread option mostly now instead of the I formation.

Getting his offense stocked with the caliber of players UT could bring in would be fun as hell to watch but it would ultimately be unsatisfying.

These are the most recent 5 seasons. How far back would you like to look?

His entire coaching career. Could have easily copied the record off Wikipedia when the one was created. Why only use the last 5 years? You make it sound like this is unacceptable to include his entire record.
Maybe your right. Trying to gauge a coach off their career is just unrealistic. The last 5 are the all that matter. The other 127 games, meh who cares what happened before 2012.

Well, look at the big ole brain on fossill. Alrighty, then, let's look at his entire career. 119-78, for a winning percentage of 65.54%. Last five years 60.40%. You could check this on Wikipedia, if you want, but I went to sports-reference.com. Anything else?

I'm not Tombo......but I answered your question.

For his career Mike Leach is 7.6-5 per year.

I would say not what Tennessee wants or needs.
