To Protect and to Serve II

I honestly think there's a legal issue in that scenario. If lethal force (and shooting someone anywhere is considered lethal force) is used you have to be able to justify said use. If you say you were only shooting to "wound" then how do you justify you were necessarily in imminent fear of severe bodily harm or death? (and BTW people have and will again die from GSW's to the leg)

Maybe LG can comment but I think there could be severe legal penalties regarding justification for use of lethal force with "intent to wound".

The only time a firearm should be used is when deadly force is authorized.

I think you missed the big point in all of this... of this entire thread(s). Forget what the clowns in Soros' funded BLM says. In this thread, we have consistently been saying that cops in this country use lethal force far too often, period.

From your link:

Final tally: Police shot and killed 986 people in 2015

So police officers should put their lives in further danger so that statisical danger is a range where you think it should be?

Can't argue with that unassailable logic.

Police officers enforce laws. They also have discretion in enforcing certain laws. So in enforcing a traffic law, the police officer is well within his legal right to do so, so why assume its to feed a politicans political agenda? Want to avoid a speeding ticket.....dont speed.

The issue with politicians is when they push for arrest and dismals for court court cost to fulfill a budget, as Ferguson was.

If a police officer can explain why a legal arresg was made, the police officers has fulfilled his duty. Speaking from ample experience, the overwhelming majority of street level police officers couldnt care less about any politician or their political agendas.

That is all most people have been saying in here. The hope is that the police would use that sort of discretion more often in favor of the people and in line with the oath the took to uphold the constitution. Stop and frisk, no knock warrants, civil asset forfeiture, use of deadly force far too often and others are not citizen friendly.

Spoken like someone who truly knows nothing about what he is talking about. Well done.

Actually, he is spot on. Name your bad actor throughout history, they'd never have done as much murder and mayhem absent police and military.

Police and military have a duty to ignore unjust laws or orders. Then again, they are the tip of the spear of all political will.

11,000+ killings last year by non cops..

How many of the 11,000+ people were killed by cops versus the number of cops killed? I'm pretty certain the cops killed a ton more citizens than cops were killed by citizens.
I'm a pretty conservative guy, but cops seem to be out of control to me when it comes to killing someone vs firing a taser or knocking the crap out of someone with a billy club. It seems to be be kill first, ask questions later.

So are you saying you woukd prefet more cops not survive the deadly encounters?

What is with you and your reading comprehension?

He's saying the preference would be more civilians survive these encounters.

Ob okay, gotcha. So people that no nothing about being a police officer discussing whay cops should do to handle a dealy force situation. Cool.

Someone selling loose cigarettes, someone flipping a cop the bird, people running from cops, or unarmed people with their hands up are not deadly force situations.

So those were the case with the 11k people he talked about? Huh, if i had known that i wouldnt say anything. I assumed we all agreed that police misconduct shouldnt be tolerated. My bad.

Then start telling civilians to stop breaking the law and follow a cops instructions. If a cop tells you to stop, put something down or let me see your hands, then comply. Its not that hard.

The sad part is that no one should have lost their jobs over this had cooler heads prevailed. But cops have no idea anymore how to be reasonable and how to deescalate a situation.

Lol. How many interactions do the 800k cops have daily? You've been harping on this same f up for weeks, surely some mope has screwed up since this guy....

I talked a guy out of killing himself yesterday, after my partner knocked pills out of his hands and prevented him from slamming his face into a knife.

But I'm sure we're the only two cops in the world who are able to do that.

Shouldn't we all be stressed by dropping by our local Post Office to pick up holiday stamps for Christmas cards? I mean workers there "go postal" right?

Those USPS clerks have no idea anymore how to be reasonable and how to deescalate a situation when it becomes hard to choose between "The Star of Bethlehem" or a "French Horn Tied with Holly".

Good job. I know there’s lots of dangerous stuff you do that will never make the news.

Off topic: how is your daughter doing? I remember a few years ago she had some surgeries and how tough that had to be your family.

Thanks for asking! I actually have an update in the FF about a week ago. She's GREAT. 21 months surgery free. We're on 6 months checkups with her cardiologist and, starting in March, will go to just an annual checkup with her neurologist.

She's as normal as any 2.5 year old there is, just has a few more scars.

This is her, about a month ago in Florida 😁
