One thing Doug Matthews spoke a little bit on this morning that I hadn't thought about:

If Butch is just absolutely opposed to going under center and running the ball in short yardage situations, why don't they have some sort of package to run the ball when you need a yard?

Surely with all the RB depth we have we could put together a wildcat or something and direct snap to Kelly/Chandler.

You've gotta have SOMETHING in your offense for when you need a yard and want to run the ball. The simplest solution is lining up under center and running or sneaking it, but there are other options toon

Absolutely baffling to me that in 5 years here Butch has refused to put in SOMETHING for these situations.

And this happened not once, but 3 times in this game. This is why we lost this game. This is why I am convinced that Butch Jones is not the guy for UT.

Interesting enough 35 was in on both scoring drives the first half and was replaced by 53 where the defense played great.

They didn't give up tds in the first half though. I would take 3 points instead of touchdowns on a d. That td after the jk penalty was a killer. We had momentum and 53 whiffed twice on third down to stop them. I think he is a great backup to have for depth but not someone to rely on in crunch time

I don't understand

How is a formation change going to help Dormady with his issues thus far?

Mechanics and decision making are his problems IMO

You don't think having him run zone read plays and passing out of the shotgun inside the 10 is setting him up for failure?

If he's gonna be the guy he should be getting steady doses of Pistol and under center snaps. He should be under center inside the 10 mostly handing off and occasionally running a PA pass to a TE like Jakob the defense might tend to overlook.

Yep the only TD we gave up besides the one at the end of the game was in the second half coming off the JK penalty when's UF had good field position.

Jumper had opportunities to make plays a few times on that drive. He got everybody lined up and read tm he play pretty decently. But he just wasn't athletic enough to finish.

National media about to have an all week field day with Butch.

Dead serious

On the Ole Miss game last night they showed the trash can thing. It has "HTB" on the side.

Announcer said "it stands for Hunt The Ball but now it might mean HIT THE BRICKS".

Used it in 2014 with Hurd/Lane while Worley was the guy. We had trouble getting the run game goin at times so Bajakian would go to it to get the ball in Hurd's hands and let him get going faster.

Stopped using it once Dobbs took over because no need with such a good running QB.

I would def like a rb like ga tech. Someone that is 230-240 and is a bruiser just for those situations. Hell remember when we used AJ in that role. Give 35 the ball let him run like hell.

For the love, please stop. QD is not the problem any more than JG is the solution. JG had the same opportunity to win the starting role. In his limited reps, he has shown he isn't ready. He will be good, but he wouldn't have won the game for us yesterday.

The problem was play calling and execution. Good play calling, we win. Good execution, we win. We did just about everything wrong we possibly could have against Florida.

Good post. Everyone always loves the backup. There is a reason JG is not the QB and he briefly showed you da's again

It's going to be bad, ole Paul is going to run it into the ground all week.

He was in on the drive where we had the interception.

Looking back Scott actually called a pretty good game from 20 yard line to 20 yard line.

Not so great when we were backed up in our own territory.

I'm pretty sure I could give a playbook to some Japanese friends I have who don't speak English and have never seen a football game and they could've called better plays in the red zone though.

Nope. He read the screen beautifully but over ran and whiffed big time on Powell. If JRM was here he would have stuck him in the dirt. He could read and finished. I saw a lot from quarte. Just needs to trust his instincts and forget his knee injury

Bituli played RB in HS.

Not sure if he's the answer we're looking for. I'd be fine with JK getting the ball in those situations.

But they've gotta put together SOMETHING for running the ball in short yardage situations other than that basic-@$$ shotgun base offense look or the under center PA pass that never fools anybody because you never run the ball under center.

QD is a pocket passer only.

He is not good as a pocket passer. Bad mechanics, inaccurate, stairs down receivers etc. etc.

His strength is as a passer and he is below average. JG in his limited reps got better as the game went on. Sure he looked shaky early, but he calmed down and threw some very accurate passes. Dormady looks shaky the whole game. JG can also run. He is the better option right now. When QD's strength is also a weakness, what are we doing here? He is Worley 2.0. I'm sorry, he's a good kid, but its true. Of course, Butch played Worley over Dobbs and Ferguson so theres no chance that JG gets a start this yea.

Hell I would use a zone read with 35 and 4. Those two would def get a yard and in goalline I like jk jumping the pile. He's got a good spring and is good with the ball.

This. QD is not the problem. JG has a bright future but the ISU game proved to me he has a lot of work to do. Anyone thinking JG will be our savior this year is going to be severely disappointed.

I don't think anyone is saying JG is the savior just that QD isn't the guy...except maybe BB. If I have a junior that has terrible footwork and terrible decision making I play someone else with more talent.

JG ain’t the savior for this season, but get him the experience now. Dormady just ain’t gonna cut it.

Exactly. We need JG to be on the roster for the next coach next season. We can't have him transfer because of Butch.

Butch has done a good job getting us out of the gutter but he isn't going to take us to the next level. That has been proven.

Go hire Chip Kelly or someone like that. Pay whatever you have to. We need an elite coach.

I think QD could be really good with good QB coaching. It's glaringly obvious he's not getting it though.
