Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

Well, here is the deal, neither you or I have been around these guys or in the huddle with these guys, all we have to go on is what we see and hear, but apparently I'm not the only one who feels that way as I heard a few guys saying it in a round table discussion on NFL network yesterday as well. As far as getting it done, lets go through the list of "getting it done" at the college level that didn't translate to the NFL shall we?

Just curious, did you hear a single one of them remotely suggest Dobbs could be taken #1 or even taken as the first quarterback?

NOPE! I can tell you what I have heard though... a lot of folks suggesting he could go to the Browns, and a lot of folks saying how much Hugh liked Dobbs.

At the same time I can't take his or the people around hims decision making seriously to be honest. So that has no impact on my opinion on that.

What I'm driving at is it's always going to look a bit strange if someone is supposedly THAT talented at the RB position and then ends up hoping to make the NFL at WR.

People were beginning to question Hurd before this position change. The change itself would seem to only reinforce those questions. He's clearly got physical tools but perhaps they really aren't best utilized as a RB.

and..............you think that means the Browns have a remote chance of taking him #1? I could entertain the idea of #12....even though that is still crazy high for his talent.

Browns shopping the #12 pick. Yeah, they definitely taking Trubisky now

Taking Trubisky at #1 would be about right on par for the Browns. There is not one QB in this draft who doesn't have big question marks, Trubisky included. You don't take question marks at #1.

You take the highest graded player in the draft, whoever that is....probably Garrett.

Then, you see if your preferred QB is still on the board at 12. If not, you wait and take somebody like Dobbs, Watson or the like in the second or third round. There isn't enough separation between Trubisky and those other QBs to warrant burning your #1 pick on him.

Personally, I think Mahomes might be the most intriguing QB in this draft.

I think Cleveland might be trying to drum up trade interest so it can move down and amass more picks.

One thing for sure. As much as I appreciate Joshua Dobbs, you will not hear his name called first.

Dobbs is not going at 1 or 12. At best Cleveland would take him with its first pick in the second round, which is still a high pick.

Well damn, if a quarterback with a glove on is all the browns needed then they should have just stuck with Tim Couch

Hey, but at least that glove made it clear to his teammates what Couch was saying to them. Couldn't play, couldn't execute, couldn't win, but the "communication" has to count for something.

Didn't say they would.....if someone suggested 12 I could at least entertain it as a coherent though. The Brown's QB is Trubisky and not Dobbs.

A couple of draft day predictions:

(1) LB Jarrad Davis goes 15th overall.

(2) WR Corey Davis goes 17th overall to someone other than the Redskins (they trade the pick).

(3) QB Josh Dobbs still goes 38th overall to the Chargers.

Save this post fellas.

Personally, I'm taking Watson. Watson's only drawback is that he throws too many picks. Just about every other part of his game is superior to Dobbs. And Dobbs throws more picks than he should, so that comparison doesn't help too much, anyway.

But, Watson is the only QB that I'd be willing to take in the latter 3rd of the 1st round. I'm not taking anyone else before the 2nd. That's not a general knock on Dobbs, whom I actually like a little less than Mahomes, but a little more than Trubisky and way more than Kizer.

You take college team success to much into account when it comes to NFL success. Watson is not physically superior to Dobbs. Dobbs is taller, more athletic, and has a stronger arm. Dobbs also has a higher ceiling given the fact he's always had a difficult course load taking up most of his time.

Deshaun Watson will have some early success in the NFL like Vince Young. But long terms Josh Dobbs will be the better QB by a wide margin.

Dobbs is passionate, matter of fact, confident, takes charge, and controls a conversation. Watson has a communications degree but he was quiet, reserved, unsure, had a lot to learn . You should go watch the two in the huddle in that Gruden camp. The difference was obvious. Dobbs is a get the job done guy, Watson is much more reserved. I have some more stuff to do but I'll be back later. You guys should maybe start a draft thread in the NFL section.

This is absolutely true.

Dobbs came off as a confident leader at Gruden's camp. Watson came off as an unsure kid.

No, I have an informed opinion that's based on the reality of past events. You otoh have an opinion based on pulling stuff out of your arse that have no basis in truth. Big difference.

To jog your memory....Watson's last 2 title game performances vs the best team/defense (Alabama) in the country.....66-103, 825 yards passing, 7 touchdowns, 1 interception.....scored 37.5 points per game vs Bama. I call that controlling or "commanding" the game.

College stars like Watson always flame out in the NFL.

Cam Newton is the only outlier and even his career has been up and down.

I will take a more accurate arm over a stronger arm every single day. Watson is way better on intermediate to deep throws, which is a QB's lifeblood in the league.

And before you respond that Dobbs is more accurate than Watson, just don't. That's freaking stupid.

I'm SURE Watson has led his team to a 28-2 record, 2 championship game appearances and national title the last two seasons....having to play and beat the very best teams in the country to do so.

I will say this though. Makes all the sense in the world that you and DD agree/share the same opinion.

Don't worry. D4H proved himself to be a moron during last year's draft.

Deshaun Watson is not an accurate passer. Just because Mike Williams brings down incredible catches every game doesn't make Watson accurate. The kid throws just as many inaccurate balls as Dobbs. He just had better receivers that would make amazing plays on the ball.
