Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

The college scouts are not the guys who determine where players are graded. They do a good job collecting information and giving the guys on top names to look out for. However, the final grade on a prospect is detemined by the guys higher up on the food chain.

You don't think scouts give grades? I'll give you the Ted Thompson example again. He actually travels all over the country to scout college guys.

Go ahead and double down on your bat-s*** nonsense.

Or triple down on it.

Go listen to McShay and what he said about Dobbs on Finebaum today or on Rusillo and Kanell last week.

His first study of tape on Dobbs was after the senior bowl and it was actually studying that tape that changed his perception of Josh from what he thought of him just watching him on TV.

Scouts do give grades. Its just not that important because they are not the decision makers. The decision makers also study the tape for themselves and are the ones who give the ultimate grade a prospect gets.

Who gives a crap when Todd McShay first watched tape of Dobbs? That does not support your bat-s***, asinine assertion that actual NFL personnel guys aren't evaluating prospects before the Senior Bowl.

Are you really this shameless in your stupidity?

The people who were saying that don't matter. I told you this for months now. The NFL decision makers don't start looking at prospects until the senior bowl. They don't even start ranking players against each other until April. This weekend is probably when they finalized their grades on players.

What you were hearing all those months ago in December were college people trying to project guys to the league. That is why you saw Jonathan Allen #2 or even #1 on many people's lists while now he's fallen out of the top 10.

Todd McShay said as much on Rusillo and Kannell last week. He said he had Dobbs pegged as a 6th-7th rounder based on what he saw on TV and the fact Tennessee as a team disappointed. Then he went to the senior bowl and saw Dobbs light it up. That caused him to finally go and actually study the tape on Josh. When he finally started studying the tape he was shocked how good Dobbs actually was. He said Dobbs threw with anticipation and surprising accuracy. He said his receivers and lineman failed him often. He said Dobbs basically carried that offense on his back. It was actually studying his tape not the senior bowl or combine performances that made him give Dobbs a 2nd round grade.

The 6th-7th round talk was not from NFL scouts studying the tape. It was from talking heads just going off hype.

Are you kidding me? Scouts are evaluating players year round. I heard Brian Rice say on Ainge's show last week that there are NFL scouts literally at every Tennessee practice. Come on dude, just stop. You've created this narrative out of your arse and now you're actually believing it.

And if McShay watched Dobbs play and had him as a 6th-7th rounder....and then "watched film" of him and all of a sudden thinks he's actually a first rounder, what the hell does that say about him other than he's borderline incompetent? That's a ridiculous statement. He pretty much said "I watched him play the actual game and thought he was a project who would be lucky to make a practice squad and unlikely to ever play in the league....but after watching 'some tape', I think he's an immediate impact player who should start day one". That's insane.

Btw, the reason Allen is "dropping" is because of his Combine physical where they discovered he has arthritic shoulders, not because they're just now paying attention to him and decided that "hey, now that look at it, he really wasn't the dominant player I could've sworn he was when I watched him play all those times".

Ask Bill Belichick how valuable scouts are.... or you could of asked his father.....
or any of the now coordinators for the patriots.... scouting is the reason the patriots are the patriots.... and it is a very long process.....

The decision makers aren't evaluating them before the senior bowl and combine. I made it clear that college scouts based in regions across the country are evaluating these kids for years. But those guys are low on the totem pole. They give out suggestions but the ultimate grade and where players fall on the board is made by others higher on the totem pole.

That's where you're wrong. I've told ya about Ted Thompson four times in this thread.

And I'm not talking about scouts. I'm talking GMs, AGMs, DPPs. What is it that you think these guys do outside of the 3 months between the Senior Bowl and the draft?

And who are these "higher" guys in the food chain? The coaches and GM? That's obvious. They make the FINAL descision. They don't grade anything. They do their "grading" through visits.

I have no idea. I'm just regurgitating what I heard on ESPN radio a few weeks ago from Danny Kanell. He said that the NFL decision makers don't even start looking at draft prospects till the senior bowl. He said they got a lot more stuff to focus on like making their team better during the season.

Now the scouts have been looking at these guys for years. But the personnel directors don't know much about the prospects other than what you or me might know just watching on TV.

Evaluate players around the league for trades and free agency.

I honestly feel kinda bad that you feel the need to continue to justify your moronic statements. But I don't totally feel for you, because you don't actually have to do so. You could just say "yeah, that was dumb; I didn't really think that one thru before I posted it." Most of us would respect the candor.

Link to this?

Is this another quote you got from your deep inside source, the fast pitch softball coach from Cleveland?

Can you actually explain how you chose your acceptance points? I mean, it's obviously when someone agrees with you, but you literally thrive off of whether or not someone else's opinion is aligned with yours. When they agree, suddenly, they have your gift for intelligence. When they disagree, they've suddenly lost all contact with reality. Just explain your narcissism for us. Where does it root from?

Maybe it's because I watch so much ESPN that I know all this deal but this is what Joe Banner (former President of the Eagles) said. He said the Eagles have a big board of every player in the NFL and all free agents and are constantly evaluating and ranking them.

I also heard from Danny Kanell (former NFL QB) on the radio show Russillo and Kanell that NFL executives don't start evaluating prospects until the senior bowl and combine.

I also thought these points were counter intuitive. Like you I thought these guys were tracking college guys all year. But that's apparently what they do.

You should watch more ESPN.

Tell that to Ted and his gang.

I did a mock draft using the NFL Predict a Pick

http://predictpick.nfl.com/?icampaign=ptp-nav-draft_hp

(I don't have a link TO MY MOCK cause I don't have a NFL account so it got deleted)...

I also used this site to see what teams were talking too.

http://walterfootball.com/ProspectMeetings/ByTeam

Most of the time I used what the NFL site said what team NEEDS except for the 49ers. I took Jamal Adams instead. I also made sure I would ONLY pick Players that had a PRIVATE session.
It took me a long time to go back and forth, but I was understanding why certain teams used a private session on others and not. Most teams know who will be off the board and some teams seem to go back and forth between to positions of needs.

I had Trubinsky going to Cleveland, then Watson to Cardinals. Mahomes goes to Houston.

It seems like most teams are getting the feeling that Panthers will take Barnett. Bengals are probably taking an OL... the next team who would take Barnett is Eagles. If Barnett is still on board, BUT Eagles take a RB, look for the Bucs, Cowboys, or even Falcons make a trade up to snag Barnett.

I think that's what most teams are thinking. And it makes more sense when I did this draft.

I'm serious... do the mock draft based on who visited who. You gotta think like the teams.
