Josh Dobbs was #1 in QB rating, TD passes, and total TDs in the SEC as a senior. He was award SEC Offensive Player of the year by Athlon Sports as a senior. He broke NFL legend Peyton Manning's school record for TDs in a season with 40 total TDs as a senior. He was less than 10 yards from breaking NFL legend Peyton Manning's school record for total yards in a season. And finally, he is 2nd all-time in total TDs for career at the University of Tennessee to NFL legend Peyton Manning.
So if you're gonna call those LEGENDARY college careers, then so was Dobbs career at Tennessee.
Personally when I think of a legendary college career I think of Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Tim Tebow, and Cam Newton. I'm talking guys that win Heismans and/or national titles. I don't think someone is a legend in college football if they have a productive career with a conference honor here or there like JJ Watt or Josh Dobbs.
College legends are the guys who for 2-3 years are the face of college football like Tim Tebow and Reggie Bush. Guys like that rarely have great NFL careers. Cam Newton being the rare outlier.
Josh Dobbs was the best QB in a horrible SEC QB year. His passing numbers are meh, but his running numbers are good. Hence why my comparison is Joe Webb.
Everytime Dobbs had to win a game with his arm, we often fell short. Oklahoma in 15, Florida in 15, South Carolina. Dobbs thrived when defenses could not keep contain or contain him. In the NFL, he will be contained.
That's not really relevant to the discussion though.
We were just saying a situation like that where he could sit behind an established guy for a few seasons (like Aaron Rodgers did) would be ideal.
Where he gets drafted doesn't have much to do with that.
1. Regardless of how good or bad his competition was in the SEC, he still had one of the most prolific seasons in SEC history for a QB when it comes to scoring. 40 TDs is 40 TDs regardless of who the other QBs in the conference are. And he did lead Tennessee to a school record for points scored. And last I checked a QBs job is to score points.
2. Tennessee falling short in 2015 was on Butch Jones and his horrible game management and play calling especially against Oklahoma and Florida not Dobbs passing ability. South Carolina 2016 is really the only loss you can put on Josh but even then we had the whole Jalen Hurd fiasco going on that game.

And the FL loss...
Not a chance. He was outstanding running (and catching) the ball that day. Had about 280 total yards that game, wasn't his fault they didn't let him throw the ball that day....made some big throws on the last drive to move the ball despite Jones' awful clock management. Led offense to 27 points, should've been enough. No way that loss was on Josh.
Dude he had 83 freaking yards passing and 1 td receiving. 58% completion rate and could not convert a 3rd down, yes he contributed to the loss.
There's a reason why.
Yeah, because Dobbs was killing em running and catching the ball (and Hurd had 100 yards), we got a two TD lead, and Butch and Debord packed it, went ultra conservative and tried to hang on to win rather than take it.
Also, recall that Dobbs had a td pass to Pearson called back.
The reason: 254 yards rushing. He had 1 catch on a trick play. There was a reason why we didn't pass across the middle, and tat ain't on Butch. convert on the last possession and we are not having this discussion.
You do not win in the SEC with 83 yds passing. No argument or discussion changes that fact.

His passing line says different.
Sorry, but you, like so many others, have been proven wrong. Peterman has exceptional accuracy and ball placement skills. He beat Clemson and was the best QB at the Senior Bowl. He also stood out at the combine.
Dobbs is a great character guy who is like a deer in the open field. Unfortunately, his accuracy was always very spotty at best. Dobbs was QB because we had no O-line protection and Dobbs could make a blitzing defense pay by his running ability. The rest is mythology.
