So what you're saying, is that Dobbs was not the best passing QB we've had? Color me shocked!
He still had a career rating of 133.2 (barely below Tee Martin at 133.6), and played in less games than any of the QBs that you listed, save for Tyler Bray. On top of that, to go with his mediocre 53 passing TDs, he had 32 rushing TDs, putting him at 16 less total TDs than Manning, while having played in 8 less games than him.
Every single QB you listed was a better passer than Dobbs except Crompton, and yet Dobbs, having played in less games than any of them (minus Bray) , had more overall TDs than any of them except Manning himself.
Let that sink in. For all of his faults, for all of his poor throws, he still scored more TDs passing and rushing than any QB since Peyton Manning.
I'm not saying that one or both of Guarantano or Dormady aren't going to be decent QBs, but expecting them to put up numbers that are anywhere close to what Dobbs did, given the Oline, RB, and WR situation in 2017, is pretty laughable.
Dobbs - 37 games - QB rating - 133.2
Bray - 28 games - QB rating - 145.0
Crompton - 35 games - QB rating - 123.1
Clausen - 45 games - QB rating - 139.8
Ainge - 43 games - QB rating - 134.8
Martin - 36 games - QB rating - 133.6
Manning - 45 games - 147.1
To be fair...because they were here... Worley - 24 games - QB rating - 118.6. Simms - 18 games - 116.7 QB rating. I won't use their numbers...whether they help my argument or not.
The argument isn't whether Dobbs was good. He absolutely was. It is whether one of these guys can come in and be effective. You guys are making it sound like we're doomed and it may not be the case.
Same guys...first year stats...
Dobbs - 5 games - 3 TD's
Bray - 9 games - 18 TD's
Crompton - 7 games - 4 TD's
Clausen - 15 TD's
Ainge - 9 games - 17 TD's
Martin - 11 games - 0 TD's
Manning - 11 games - 12 TD's
You are correct though. Dobb's 39 TD's his senior year are equal to only Manninhg's 39 TD's his Senior year. Yet for years between the two we managed to field some good teams (with the exception of a couple of QB's). The point is...new starters can be good. they don't have to be like the guy before them, the offense will be changes to suit them.
If I recall correctly (could be wrong though) Bray's NFL O-Line wasn't considered that Until the last year they played here.
Good discussion though...I like flingin' numbers.
