Ha-Ha, this place is hilarious--- folks on here actually taking the time to try and justify and make a case why 3* are basically just as good as 4-5* by taking the wait and see and develop approach and weighing whether or not one may have a 4* grade on one service... SMH. 95% of the time, 4-5* are safer bets and a quicker return on investment if you have a descent coaching staff...
Sidenote---- AL has gotten to such a lopsided and bloated level, it is crazy to see 5* still go knowing they will be 2-3rd string starting off with the chance down the road to see the field over going to another competitive school where they could start day 1....

Thanks BamainVolforum

I haven't been paying attention. Who's been getting more attention Sutton or Dobbs

Yesterday Sutton. Today Dobbs.

ESPN was basically talking up Josh all day today. Guys like Todd McShay and Louis Riddick were giving him mad praise.

He was definitely the face of the south practice today.

I know he's not in the Senior Bowl, but saw Daniel Jeremiah's(?) 1st round mock from the NFL Network, has Kamara going to the Steelers. 3 Vols in the 1st would be incredible.

3 Vols will go in the first round. Barnett, Sutton, and Kamara.

Dobbs will go in the second or third round.

And hopefully Malone sneaks into the third round after he runs a 4.3 at the combine.

Y'all hearing anything about the rumor a Homstead, FL recruit got video of Florida assistants offering him money? For the record, it's on SEC Rant so it's probably not true.

Saw it mentioned and think it's a real possibility that it will happen. When the dominos fall, we'll take more than expected this class and count the extras against the 2018 class.

I am by no means a stargazer, I think we have a lot of solid 3* and under the radar guys, but I saw this stat today and it blew my mind. According to the 247 composite rankings Alabama and Georgia have 20 4* and 5* commits a piece for the 2017 class. LSU has 12 and Auburn has 10.

Tennessee has 5...

We had 10 in 2016 and 16 in 2015 and 2014. We had 4 in 2013.

And yet 2013 might be the best class of the Butch Jones era in terms of on-field impact.

We landed superstars like Josh Dobbs, Cam Sutton, and JRM that year. And there were several other solid starters from that class like Vereen, Vickers, Weisman, Foreman, Josh Smith, and Kendrick. Look back at that class and see how many starters it produced. 2013 is a very underrated class for us. As of today it's been the best of the Butch Jones era even though it was the lowest rated on paper.

He said it is even the simplest of things - OJ didn't even know what foot to lead with when split out on the right or left side of the line.

I don't like OJ Howard at all as a pro prospect. Especially as a first round pick which is where most project him to be picked.

IMO the clear cut best tight end in the 2017 draft is Evan Engram. Now that is a guy who knows how to play. Just a special prospect. I think he's an all-pro tight end in the NFL. While I only see OJ Howard as a solid starter but not exceptional.

@ColeThompson32: #Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs has been announced as the starter for the #seniorbowl

Haven't seen NFL Network's coverage of today's practice but the guys on ESPN were gushing about Dobbs.

From Todd McShay calling him the biggest surprise of the week to Louis Riddick basically alluding to Tom Brady and Belichek when talking about the rapport developing between Dobbs and Hue Jackson to even Bill Polian, they were all raving about Josh.

He was basically the face of the practice today with all the cameras on him at the end as well as getting the main post practice interview.

Josh Dobbs definitely stole the show today at the South practice if you watched ESPN's coverage. Louis Riddick went as far as to say he was the player he was most looking forward to watching play Saturday.

Big week for Josh. He definitely upped his draft stock. Big time.

The way these guys are talking the Browns may take a chance on him in the 3rd round

I could see that happening.

Browns have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. They could look at that 3rd rounder as a free pick to take a chance on a guy who is a little raw but has a high ceiling like Josh.

Browns would win the 2017 draft if they picked Myles Garrett first overall then took Corey Davis with the 12th overall. Then drafted an Evan Engram and Justin Evans in the second round. Before taking Josh with the first pick in the 3rd round.

DE Myles Garrett
WR Corey Davis
TE Evan Engram
S Justin Evans
QB Josh Dobbs

That would be quite a haul for the Cleveland Browns.

Greg Mcelroy was gushing about Dobbs today.

Compared him to Dak in one way "Dak jumped on the radar in the Senior Bowl".

Said Dobbs is playing his way into a 4th round pick

If you watched ESPN's coverage, everyone was gushing about him. From Todd McShay to Louis Riddick to Bill Polian.

Josh was the star of the day at the south's practice if you watched ESPN.

I think he'll go to the browns. Hue is drooling over him

I think if he's there at round 3, they'll pick him. Hue definitely has liked what he's seen.

Also the Browns have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. I could see them willing to roll the dice on Josh with their 3rd round pick.

That's a great point. Further proof that it does not always depend on stars. We still need to build talented depth across the board though. I am hoping the 2014/2015 classes can carry us next season with some newer guys contributing immediately and then the 2017 class will be top 5. That would mean the program is keeping its momentum and beginning to show signs of significant progress.

We only have two DT's in this class and they are both undersized, 255 and 275.... get the peanut butter out...

Someone has already pointed out that Crosby is at 330 (and he'll need to lose weight) and that Conliffe is 305 (if we land him).

But Butler is already at 280 apparently. Ray could possibly develop into a guy that plays at 280-290 as well (and I'm assuming we get either him or Conliffe).Additionally, Thaxton has the frame to slide inside eventually if the coaches want that from him.

I really like the versatility the coaches have put together on the DL this class (assuming we close with Conliffe or Ray). They might not have many guys that project to make an instant impact, but they've got a lot of guys with good builds and skillsets.

Please Robinson, the Titans need Cam badly. You need CB's and get a real PR you need as well.

Sadly, the Titans have no second round pick. And if Sutton keeps up his Senior Bowl performance and test well at the combine, I think we might see him gone by the end of the second or very early 3rd.

His special teams versatility will make him even more valuable.

Hmmm. That is interesting. I have always thought the opposite. 5 star linemen usually still need a year to adjust to SEC play. There are plenty of examples of 3 star OL that have developed into great players. I think linemen are the hardest for the services to grade. To me, I like 4 and 5 star skill players. But that's an interesting point of view.

What I am saying is it is hard to project lineman than skill guys. When you have more linemen in a class, it tends to hold the ranking down. Also, a class at 15 with mostly linemen tends to be better than a class at 15 with mostly skill guys. Why Dools 15 ranked classes that included few linemen is not as good as this class.

Yup....it has to do with that coach that went on twitter and said he banned a UF assistant from coming to his school to recruit.
