Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXII

We'll see what the consensus is about Dobbs at the end of the week. I saw a couple of reports today and not a single QB was mentioned, and somebody at WalterCampfootball.com commented, in a blanket statement, that it was an unimpressive group of QBs. I don't think it was an accident that the Raiders and Browns talked to Dobbs. We'll see.

Reggie McKenzie certainly has a nice inside knowledge of Dobbs. I know he was at most if not all games even after his son was out.

I think the SC and Vandy losses really ruined any recruiting momentum we had. They hurt badly. I can't prove that they cost us some good recruits, but I'm sure they hurt. We're now scrapping around, and not sure I believe the 3-star Ga. lb was nudged by us. Why would we--so we could sign a 2-star RB and WR who'd committed to....Syracuse? Maybe, I suppose we needed another RB, but we /badly/ need LBs too.

You just proved something noteworthy.

I bought it last year, but I was in a different place with respect to my view of the program. One big reason was we all thought a monster 2017 class was inevitable.

Now, two depth classes in a row will not be all that different than what Dooley produced.

No, No part of me wants Dooley over Butch. But his last two class rankings were very similar to where 2016 and 2017 will likely fall.

One thing you guys are missing and getting either one or two of the remaining DL targets will make an even bigger difference. Dooley had class rank due to skill guys star ratings while leaving the most important thing bare. LINEMAN in the trenches. We are in the best shape we have been in on the OL and having a good haul this cycle. Get one or two of the guys we want and the DL is extremely good this cycle. We were getting there but not quite there before the injuries which did catch up with us. Last year's DL line haul hurt and was the worse part of any class Jones has missed on.

This class could end up ranked where some of Dools were but Dools was a false ranking driven by some really good skill players who can't do crap with no one to play on the line. A class at 15 with tons of lineman is more valuable due to difficulty of the projection of lineman holds their stars down. When you get a five star lineman and we have got some, that is big time value. JOnes classes at 15 ish with lineman far above what similar rated dools classes were void of lineman.

Go on Twitter and search "Josh Dobbs". I saw alot of people saying he was impressive once again today and easily the best QB on the south team.

ESPN and NFL Network might not be promoting him ad-nasuem. But then again remember they said nothing about Dak Prescott last year. Those guys are just about promoting the guys fed to them by agents they are close to. Its a I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine sort of deal with these guys.

No argument that OL recruiting has been a positive for pretty much all of Butch's tenure. As far as DL, it started off well, but due to injuries, departures and poor recent recruiting, is at a critical juncture, and even if we have a couple of nice additions, I think the jury is still solidly out on that position after next year.

So no, I'm not missing it, I just have a different opinion than you.

You just want to argue. You missed the main point of how a 15 ranked class with mostly skill guys is not near as good as a 15 ranked class with mostly lineman. We have recruited very well and have depth at DE which is part of the line. Missing out on DT's last year was a big miss and why we see so many this year. With that, I agree. But doesn't surprise me you missed the main point of the post.

Again, I got it your point. It's a flawed generalization that I don't put much stock in. Therefore, I didn't comment on that specific part. Sorry.

And if I wanted to argue, I wouldn't have stated at the outset that I agreed with your point on the OL, nor would I have left it as "differing opinions."

Palmer, Locklear, Bennett, Bailey....

See, class is pretty decent

I agree, now it is a very solid class. We had a bunch of guys that I didn't feel belonged, but they are all gone now. We've upgraded all around in my opinion, ratings be damned. If we get Ray or Conliffe this becomes a very good class ratings be damned.
