Florida loses a commit to Nebraska? Ouch.

UF fell to 31st overall in the 247 Composite rankings and 35th using just 247's rankings.

IMO, our recruiting class is nothing special, but UF's recruiting class is not looking too good. Pretty sure they can't take the numbers we can, but I'd argue they are losing just as much if not more production than UT next year. Not a good time to have a poor showing in recruiting.

I think Hurd would make a great full back. :)

Honestly if he had the mental fortitude for it and more of a team first attitude, I think he could make a really good H-Back in the NFL. He's got the size, speed, skill set, etc. to make it work.

I'm just not sure if the rest is there.

This is fantastic news. I never thought I'd see the day where Florida could just get out of bed and not have a top 10ish class. I don't think much of their staff either, so I have my doubts as to their ability to identify talent and coach them up. Now, if it would just happen to UGA.

By the way, this is in no way directed at you, OP, but if we are projecting finishing rankings, it's hard to reconcile celebrating Florida's bad haul while dismissing the efficacy of stars and rankings in conjunction with ours.

Bama's class is unreal. Almost twice as many 5 stars as 3s and below.

They are just on another level compared to everyone.

This is the definition of a wait and see class. We have some studs and lots of players with potential. Like JacketVol has been saying, I would rather take 4 and 5* lineman and fill the class with 3* skill players around then than the opposite.

We have three. Four if Bumphus ends up a DE.

Could you imagine horse teeth in your living room? Yuck.

Our recruiting now is down, but it's not as bad as the composite makes it seem. We have around 10 4* on rivals, and I think somewhere between 10-15 of our recruits are 4* on at least one service.

Hmmm. That is interesting. I have always thought the opposite. 5 star linemen usually still need a year to adjust to SEC play. There are plenty of examples of 3 star OL that have developed into great players. I think linemen are the hardest for the services to grade. To me, I like 4 and 5 star skill players. But that's an interesting point of view.

Agree. I'd rather get 4 and 5 stars everywhere though.

If I had to pick one unit to exclusively recruit 3s though it would be OL.

Agree, good post. Saying getting 3 star skill players isnt a bad thing is dangerous. rationalization.

The Gatas also lost Kai-Leon Herbert, one of their top remaining prospects, who committed to Miami yesterday. He stated he was set to commit to UF this weekend on his visit, but the UF's failure to hire an OL coach scared him off.

They are in meltdown mode on the Gator message boards. Sounds like a lot of the top instate recruits are not hearing from UF all that much.

I think their losses are much more damning since they are losing the vast majority of their defensive production; guys that have been relied upon for years.

Haven't kept up with who has declared but their entire D was junior and seniors. I expect a significant step back on defense.

Yep, and the fact that they are a team that lives or dies based on how their Defense performs has me thinking next year might not be so great.

I didn't think offense would be a concern under McElwain, but if F. Franks (QB) doesn't pan out for them, yikes. There's nothing behind him. Assuming a step back on defense next year, I don't see an Appleby or Del Rio caliber QB getting it done.

If anyone frequents gator message boards... hook us up with the good ones.

Ha-Ha, this place is hilarious--- folks on here actually taking the time to try and justify and make a case why 3* are basically just as good as 4-5* by taking the wait and see and develop approach and weighing whether or not one may have a 4* grade on one service... SMH. 95% of the time, 4-5* are safer bets and a quicker return on investment if you have a descent coaching staff...
Sidenote---- AL has gotten to such a lopsided and bloated level, it is crazy to see 5* still go knowing they will be 2-3rd string starting off with the chance down the road to see the field over going to another competitive school where they could start day 1....
