So your saying he could have a very good year next year and win the east, but that he will leave on his own accord because he is tired of being a coach at a big time university and all that comes with it? Interesting. This means you must have some personal insight into his mindset. Do you sit behind him at church, are you his neighbor, maybe your kids are friends with his kids? Please tell us more about how CBJ is feeling.
Also, by definition a lame duck has no control over what happens next, but you are saying he would leave on his own accord. Makes zero sense.
Why not? Florida won it this year. No reason we can't be as good as they were this year.
If it were in Neyland I would think we'd have a chance but I think we lose to the Gators in the swamp.
I think are losses will be to GT, AL, LSU, GA, and FL and maybe one more depending on injuries. Another year like this in injuries and it could get ugly.
Is Butch perfect? No. Some of the criticism is justified but the complaints about how he has lost his touch in recruiting is ridiculous.
ESPN has our class as #11. That seems to be what everyone is quoting. One site averaged the other and came up with #9, from an #8, 2 #9s and that #11. Given the disappointments this year and that neither the coaches' poll nor the writers' poll even had us ranked, a composite top ten, or even an almost top ten, is a represents a decent job of recruiting.
Also, this staff has found a 3* or two with an upside that others failed to notice. And again, recruiting for particular needs may have an effect on our ranking.
This was one of the jobs that I thought could be in the market for Butch if it came open. I was expecting Dykes to get hired to another job and not get fired though. Has he done bad there?
I didn't think he had but I've paid zero attention to Cal since we played them in 2007. Oregon fans are much better hosts, BTW.
I think Cal fits the profile. But I also think Ron is right in that this might be a mutual fit with Chip Kelly.
Didn't realize Dykes has been there 4 years. He's 5-7 this year. I knew they had a decent year last year.
Why wait til January to fire him? They must have their eyes set on someone. Maybe Kelly is a possibility.
The Texas native, son of former Texas Tech head coach Spike Dykes, came to Cal after three seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he went 22-15.
A search for Dykes replacement is expected to begin immediately, with hopes the school will have its new coach in place before the end of this week when recruiting heats up again.
