Debord to Indiana as OC

It doesn't matter whether it's CBJ's offense or say CMH's offense, it's more about calling the plays at the right time. Debord seemed to struggle at times with this. Dobbs up to line of scrimmage get set see D then look to sideline to get new play, delayed hand off up the gut against stacked box!

UT needs a OC that understands what the D is trying to do then call play to attack that D. Take what the D gives you, if it's 5-7 yard slants the entire game that's fine too, the LB''s will back up to cover then run the ball. CMD tried to make something happen when the D was waiting on his screen play or typical run, use this playbook and be creative against that particular D. Bama seems to run something very similar and it works just fine

Debord sees the writing on the wall - this ship is about to start sinking fast in 2017. Next year we will be begging for the offensive production we have had the last two years...

Yes. That's exactly what I think. Coaches know each other. A coach stopping by a practice isn't a new thing. Hasn't Gruden been to a few of UT practices?

You're nuts then. A high profile OC candidate doesn't just stumble into practice for no reason days before your current OC leaves the program...

Occam's razor here people.

Not the same.

Helfrich stopping by a practice after rumors of him being our OC then a few days later, the OC job opens up after Debord just randomly heads to Indiana is much more than a coincidence.

At first, I was totally wanting Helfrich. After some consideration, I am not sure he is the guy to get her done. His resume looks great, but when you start looking at the small details there are some questions I would have for him. Who was actually calling plays at Oregon? If the answer is Chip, I would keep looking. Would coach Z and Scott work well as CO-OCs? Who knows, but Helfrich isn't a sure fire home run.

Chip Kelly wasn't calling plays 3 seasons ago. Not for sure if Helfrich was or Scott Frost...but not Chip! :)

He sucked until he leaves. Then he's great and bailing. The Days of Our VN. :)

Get your info from hyams much?? Sounds like word from word of what he said in the radio a few hours ago.

Oregon has done nothing but go down the toilet bowl since Helfrich took over so I'm still trying to figure out where this Helfrich love comes from .... unless it's it's bamisalami fans posting as vols fans.

What part of the toilet bowl does the playoff championship game sit?

Think he is referring more to the offensive side, it's no secret it's Butch's offense.

I understand but I have definitely seen more than a dozen topics be accepted as fact by this board only to find out later we were waaayyyy off. In not saying this is the case here but I haven't seen an unquestionable source stand behind it either...

Bunch of ungrateful and inconsiderate posters on VN. Say what you will, but Debord has helped our program while he was here.

I wish him well, and am hopeful this means Heflich is on board as our next OC.

Agreed. I would LMAO if it's some no name after everybody bad mouthing Debord.

The idea of Helfrich coming is extremely remote....think Lloyd Christmas.

What's going to be funny is the meltdown on here when it doesn't happen. It will be Gruden-esque.

This fanbase loves to create a scenario in their mind then blames everyone else when it doesn't happen.

You gonna wear a dress if he does? Sumthin tight? Gotta up the ante if we have to "meltdown". :)

First, I'm not miserable. You can be realistic without being miserable.

Second, which do you think is more likely:

1. Helfrich coaches at UT
2. Helfrich doesn't coach at UT

This smoke you speak of is because Helfrich was in Nashville to see Mariota and stopped by a UT practice. :loco:

Why'd he skip Nebraska's? Voting #1 FTR.

Well said, but having said that, I hope we go out and get a top notch OC. This has to be a homer hire. If not, Butch is digging his own grave! You know, they say you can't make an eagle out of a duck, but you can make Vol, come on down Mr. Helfrich!

Two things regarding DeBord going to Indiana and our next OC.

1. DeBord is from Indiana and he's getting closer to home.

2. Peyton is never going to coach at Tennessee. He has already said that half of the UT fans would hate him as soon as he made a coaching mistake. He would rather the UT fans just remember him as they do now. He saw what happened to Fulmer and how he was treated at the end after 35 loyal years at Tennessee as a player and coach. Really can't blame him.

He stopped to see an injured QB that didn't even play?
