'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

I think Tee was being recruited over, so not losing any sleep with him going to IPTAY ("I plow thirty acres a year").

He also got punked in the 4th quarter against Oklahoma and Florida as well.

I really hope he learns his lesson.

But I fear he's too hardheaded.

I think the way CBJ coaches with a lead is playing a significant factor in the reversal of his recruiting fortune. There is very little evidence that his conservative, play-not-to-lose philosophy that relies on a horizontal passing attack with the lead against good teams and/or dominate defenses will ever change. We've seen nothing to suggest it has (despite his flock of sheep that will point to Vandy and Northwestern, which does not convince me, although perhaps those games are a reason for cautious optimism).

CBJ goes into conservative mode (to the extreme) every time he builds a lead beyond one score against quality competition. He simply tries to get the game over with instead of continuing the game plan that built the lead. There is zero passion on offense once a two score lead is established against our toughest foes.

Even after the catastrophic collapses against OU and UF, which were widely criticized across the sports world, he still showed that same tendency against four other opponents.

Here's the total quarter-by-quarter scoring of UT last year in the four losses (OU, UF, Ark, Bama) and two conservative SEC wins (USCe, Mizzu):
First – 58-21 +276%
Second – 33-16 +206%
Third – 16-38 -238%
Fourth – 17-45 -265%

First Half – 91-37 +246%
Second half – 33-83 -252%

All six games were the same song, different verse in terms of offensive production following a built up lead. The only difference is how the defense performed with the lead in those games.

A lot of fans have chosen to forget how close we came to giving up a victory against USCe (saved by a fumble in the redzone with 32 seconds left and a mere 3-point lead against an interim coached inferior team). After scoring on the first two possessions with ease, our conservative offense could only score one more touchdown the rest of the game against one of the worst defenses in the SEC. CBJ's conservative approach allowed USCe to tie it up 24-24 despite building a 17-0 lead.

The Mizzu game showed a similar conservative offensive mindset from Butch, but the Tiger's offense was so inept it couldn't take advantage.

Elite HS players see this when they watch our games and it probably turns some of them off. I know it would me (it takes away my enthusiasm of CBJ as a fan), especially if I was destined to play offense. It's hard to be enthusiastic about a coach who plays not-to-lose against his best opponents.

Basically, "Butch Stones" has no balls, which is why I grimace every time one of these CBJ ballsniffers on VN makes some kind of lewd comment or innuendo about his machismo -- not to mention how pathetic it is for men to make such comments about another man. It's quite the irony when one considers how he coaches.

No spit.

If he can't win the mesely east with this team, he'll never win anything.

Truth. We'll know in less than six months. It's now or never for Butch Jones in the SEC. He did not coach last year's team to their potential in the first half of the season and its costing us now. Fans who are quick to criticize this opinion need to remember how close we were to starting the season 2-4 after falling into a 21-point deficit against UGA.

Hopefully he coaches team 120 to their full potential and the direction for the program continues upward as everyone currently views the trajectory. If we don't play like a top 10 team this year (as we damn well should be), recruiting will continue to suffer and the steady improvement we've seen (which I've always felt should have come sooner based on the recruiting talent CBJ amassed) will reverse.

At a minimum, I'm looking forward to not having to hear any excuses this season (and hopefully beyond).

The point isn't truth or lies. It whether you are a fan or not.

Sorry but telling It like it is aint what a FANATIC does.

And thats what being a fan is. Being a FANATIC.

If you think Clemson is a better place for recruits to go than Tennessee then you aint a fan.

You can be a fan and have common sense imo

Fair to me

We're on the verge of a monster season and many fans in this thread are questioning everything about a coach who has far exceeded expectations and given us the opportunity to even have such high hopes for this season. How many coaches could have flipped this roster like CBJ has? Only the elite. Be cool.

Couple posts from Fortenberry...

"Really surprised here. Had some people tell me in the last few weeks they were confident it was Tennessee. Obvisouly, that isn't the case as Clemson picked the Tigers.

This one isn't over and won't be until signing day, but I'm pretty surprised right now."

"He spent a lot of time with Tennessee's coaches the last few weeks and gave them a lot of indications that Tennessee was the right place. Obviously, that wasn't what happened. I think that's why the staff is probably frustrated today."

This is spot on. But according to some on here I have no idea what is going on.

17 and 18 year old kids. Gonna happen. Would not be a bit surprised if he was behind the Turtle troll job.

In the end this was a business decision. It's all about 3 years from now and getting paid top $$$

No lie.

The kid will be an NFL superstar.

The kid has not yet finished high school and has never played a down in college. There are many players with potential that either fail to live up to expectations in college or experience the injury bug and never see an NFL field. It is a long 4 years until he can even be considered.

Other WR's will come along who are just as good and only so many can make it to the NFL. And I am sure that Clemson is going to continue to recruit all the 4 and 5 star WRs they can get which means that he is going to have to beat out others who are just as good for playing time.

These kids are lauded in high school - flowered with words like this and have no clue what it takes or if they can even give what it takes to be successful enough in college to get playing time. They no longer are competing against lessor talented guys from their hometown but against other guys with the same "star" potential they have. Sometimes even those with seemingly endless talent don't make it.

You did nothing wrong. Neither did Fort or Hubbs. The reality is that any inside info is meaningless info when the point of origin is either indecisive or dishonest. If people here can't understand that, they shouldn't follow the unseemly world of college recruiting.

So now anyone can be an insider. If your predictions don't pan out, just scream the recruit lied and it was a lot of misinformation. Built in not my fault. Game on. LOL

Will be interesting to see if Tee gets cold feet in Nov/Dec and calls Dabo up and say I want to take some official visits.

If that happens will be interesting to see if Dabo stays consistent and tells him to decommit.

I think committing to them now actually helps us in Dec-Feb, no way he will be able to stay away from our campus for 9 months and when he inevitably visits, what does Dabo do?
