To Protect and to Serve II

The process? Just looking at that video, the cops were entirely too aggressive. Why not observe from a distance for a while, instead of rolling up like idiots?

Of course, you will have some come on here and say, "If you don't like the process, why don't you vote and put in different representatives and do something about it?".

At what point does voting and working within the system stop being an option?

They did not know what they would confront when they got there. The radio report was this:

"In the park by the youth center is a black male sitting on the swings. He is wearing a camouflage hat, a gray jacket with black sleeves. He keeps pulling a gun out of his pants and pointing it at people."

On that information, they are not going to pull up 100 yards away and watch.

Now, you can criticize the communication as incomplete, i.e. that the reporting person said it looked like a kid and that he could not tell if the gun was real. But the officers were not told that.

Would it have made a difference? Hard to say for sure. But based on what they did know, aggressively coming right up, and the kid pulling the gun out of his waistband (to show it to them though they do not know his intent) they did not act criminally.

They don't like context added to the stories.

The kid was obviously being an idiot but those cops ran up on him like a couple of Barbradys. Really do not think they acted very intelligently. If they were told he was carrying a gun, why would you roll up two feet away from him where he could easily shoot you? Aren't you going to want to maintain some sort of distance until you can fully grasp the situation and danger level?

An Ohio grand jury has decided not to return an indictment in the 2014 police shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, prosecutor Tim McGinty said Monday.

A recent FBI video analysis shows Tamir "was drawing his gun from his waist as the police slid toward him and Officer Loehmann exited the car," McGinty said. After the shooting, officers discovered it was a toy gun.

CNN

So no one wants to talk about the video analysis showing he's pulling the gun ?

It might have been just to show it to the officers. THEY DON'T KNOW THAT.

So, as a rational person, are you going to roll up on someone with a gun the way they did?

Why not come up on foot? That gives you time, and time equals distance to observe the situation.

This shows your complete lack of understanding of effective tactics. Pulling up and watching from a distance is precisely what you should do. It gives you time and space to make the right approach so you protect by-standers and apprehend the right perpetrator. By driving into the danger zone you limit your options to defending yourselves only, without any chance of preventing harm to others in the area. If there had been an actual gunman, instead of a 12 year old child, those officers would have been killed along with anyone else in the area. It was a piss poor tactical response and the only reason it was successful is the target was a child.

Exactly... we're constantly being reminded of the 21 ft Rule.

No justice, no peace.

Every kid I know growing up played with bee bee guns. Hell, I even know a kid who was restrained because the cops thought his toy gun was real. He didn't get shot. Tamir Rice is dead because 2 cops made a huge ****ing error. At the very least, anybody careless enough to approach a kid (who supposedly has a gun) like this does not deserve to wear the badge.

If this weren't a cop, what would the result be?

Why do the public servants who are entrusted with important responsibilities, like public safety, get held to a lesser standard than the general public? It's backwards. It makes no sense. They are trained professionals. I'm an amateur. I would be going to jail for what they did.

I'm not the one blaming the citizenry for the actions of a corrupt political class. Sooner or later you'll realize the system works the way it does because that's what it's meant to do. It was designed that way.

Without the acquiescence of the citizenship our corrupt political class wouldn't exist. The founding fathers gave us, the citizens the power to control our government, we pissed that power away!

Qualified immunity.

Are you sure that "power" didn't become a gun pointed at the citizenry? After all, it's not like you have a choice in the matter. Your money, or your life...

Holy ****! How long do you think this country has been in existence? The government power grab has been going on for 200+ years and the citizenry has allowed it. The government is just people doing what people do when unrestrained.

So, you don't trust the people, yet, you acknowledge its people who control government. Good lord man.

Just keep voting, 230+ years now, you may get the right people in there one day lol
