Coaching Search Thread

I agree but Dayton has control over a buyout so they can benefit. He's taken them into the elite eight and is a great coach. His buyout will be 3 million or so and I don't know if we can buy him out and pay him.

Actually the coach has control over the buyout during negotiations. The kicker in Miller is that he just signed an extension. I would think that 3 mil would be on the high end but don't disagree that you could be correct.

What I don't get is the concern over money and a buyout. If you get a guy who excites the fanbase and wins, you can put 20k+ in TBA every night. That revenue takes care of those money concerns on its own. Seems simple economics to me.

Yeah but Dayton is also not gonna allow his buyout to be super low because he will leave and Dayton will need something in return so a buyout of 3 million wouldn't surprise me. He may not be super interested in UT because he could get a much higher job in 2 years or so if he keeps up success at Dayton. Our best option is Brad Underwood unless his buyout is huge.

Underwood signed a 8 year extension last year but his buyout is "expected" to be low.

Byrd has a proven track record and is squeaky clean. Obviously, you want to go out and get another Tyndall to take over this dumpster fire.

I don't want a 60+ year old choir boy who hasn't recruited at a major level in how many years?

For those of you that don't follow basketball outside of D-1, I'd love to see a coach try to implement the The Grinnell System into D-1. While I'm absolutely sure this would never work at a power 5 school like Tennessee, it would be a heck of a lot of fun to watch a team score a ton of points. It's super high tempo. The "line changes" can be a tad annoying because they happen every 45-90 seconds, but it's fun to see that someone is trying to play the game another way.

Disclaimer: This is completely a side note, and not intended to suggest that Dave Arseneault should coach here.

I can't find Miller's buyout, however, for those taking Crean, unless he wants to leave and IU wants him gone, his buyout is 12 mil. He would be a fool to walk away.

Mack or Miller. Make the calls, offer the deal to whichever wants to do it first, sign the MOU, introduce the new coach, give them full support, get out of his way, be happy with NCAA tournament appearances every year, build a legacy.

Accoridng to CBS we approached Mack last year and he wasn't interested. May be different now but I'm not so sure. Either mentioned would be a great hire.

I have a hard time believing anyone who wasn't interested last year would be interested this year. I think you'd have a hard time arguing we're in a better place this time...

They said on the sports animal that pearl was more realistic than Gregg Marshall. That's from John Adams. But he still said it's about a 5 percent chance

The odds of either one being the hire are approximately the reciprocal of Avogadro's number.

@jerrymeyer247: Not expecting assistant coaching changes at Texas. I'm expecting an entirely different coaching staff there next year.

Rick Barnes thoughts? Not done much lately but was very successful in early Texas career and at Providence. Also pretty good recruiter.

Barnes would be a home run hire. Hart would be an idiot not to send out feelers.

Probably very unlikely, but Barnes is a heck of a recruiter. Kevin Durant, Tristan Thompson, etc.

Also a loooong shot, but Will West just mentioned Jamie Dixon. Apparently some friction there with Pitt after a disappointing season. His name is being mentioned with the DePaul job. Surely we're more attractive than DePaul.
