Idk that that's a fair assumption at all. Some people get stuck in a lie, some are just messed up people, sometimes the state proceeds against their wishes.

This is true but I'm talking about the average female... There is a lot of rape going on at college campuses that never get reported because it is he said/she said and females have to go through hell to prove it.

I actually watched the Vandy player Dr. Phill show. The kid was likeable/smart and came from an outstanding family. That said, what he did to that girl was horrifying. If there hadn't been a tape of the incident, you would never believe he was such a monster..(Peer pressure and drinking was the defense)

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but a woman has to put herself through hell to go through a trial like that.. IMO, the average person would only do that if they were really raped, especially one as high profile in Knoxville as this will be.

Tawana Brawley The Grand Jury declared a No
True Bill in this instance, so no trial. Maybe Tawana was not an "average person".

My daughter worked at the rape crisis center, and I can tell you that games are played by women for various reasons.

I don't want to argue, I'm just giving my own female perspective...

AJ has told his side of the story to whatever limit he set on it with his attorney at this side. The GJ does not indict minus the accused's side of the story as well as evidence in the case.

I'm sorry, but this is false. Very, very rarely is a criminal defendant or his/her attorney present at Grand Jury proceedings.

And, in this case, it was "presented" to the grand jury, which will likely not allow the defense to cross examine witnesses at a preliminary hearing in general sessions court, as most felony charges would allow.

I'll try not to comment further, but I know David Eldridge, Tom Dillard and Steve Johnson will represent their clients to the absolute best of their abilities. They are top notch men and advocates.

I agree about it being difficult to come forward with something like that. The culture on college campuses is really disturbing and sad.

I'm just saying, in my relatively brief experience with the criminal justice system, all of expectations of what people would or wouldn't do to each other have been wiped away.

Rape cases and our adversarial system of justice just don't mix well.

To recap from the police report, police interviews and news reports:

The alleged victim voluntarily comes to a party at AJ's apartment and voluntarily goes upstairs with him in front of a room full of people.

There are no screams or disruption during the party. No indication of an alleged rape or assault taking place upstairs.

She comes downstairs later. Partygoers are still there. She says nothing about being raped. She leaves voluntarily. No one detains her.

According to the police report, she has no visible injuries and neither drugs nor force were involved. There are no outward signs of abuse.

There are neighbors outside AJ's apartment. There are people in the parking lot. Multiple parties are going on at the complex before, during and after her departure. Dozens of people are around. She told no one she was raped. She asks no one for assistance.

Allegedly, she has had consensual sex with AJ before.

There are many victims in a case like this, and it seldom ends well for anyone except the attorneys.

We have been looking around that area. Everything is about three to four times more expensive in terms of housing but we have found some good looking places for a reasonable price. Now we just have to figure out the school situation for our girls. I am grateful to those like your uncle who served before me and kept our nation free through some terrible times.

Come up to York, drive to the train and enjoy a ride to the Pentagon. We need more Vols up here.

It doesn't end well for the attorneys, either. I assure you.

Prediction.

Dillon Bates will start at MLB.

Here's a quote from DC Jancek on Bates.

QUOTE:
He's back," Jancek said. "He's in the weight room. He's doing everything. He's been cleared for all of that. I anticipate him being full go for the spring and really getting an opportunity to solidify a position on our defense."

Jancek said he isn't concerned about position with Bates, whether he plays middle or outside linebacker, mostly because defense against spread offenses requires all three linebackers to be able to play in space, and therefore there is only so much physical difference in the requirements for the position. He said he's simply trying to get his best 11 on the field.

I think the big thing about Dillon goes beyond his physical talent. His football IQ is through the roof and even if there are slightly more talented MLB candidates (not saying there are but using an example), I'm not sure anyone can do a better job getting us lined up on D. All things considered that gives him a major edge - also allows him to play instinctual which eliminates most talent differentials.

Where does Williams fit in this?

Where does Williams fit in this?

He is alleged to have been the one who did the raping via the rumor mill after what was supposed to be his hookup left (fact if you believe the girl from FL). Under TN law if AJ can be proven to have aided and abetted it (I assume the state's theory is he lured her over there and watched/laughed or whatnot while it happened). That ups the charge to aggravated rape and under our aggravated statute then BOTH are guilty of aggravated rape whether both participated or not (there are other factors that meet the qualification as well). But see Vandy's Vandenburg (he was found guilty on all counts, aggravated rape included, though he was unable to get it up and stuck to giving instructions).

This is simply an educated guess based upon the aggravated rape charge, reports, leaks and rumors. And I could be completely, utterly wrong as it's not uncommon for tons of BS to come out or be leaked before trial.

All things considered, I'd rather be the attorney than the accused or the accuser. Getting a payday is the most desirable outcome in this sordid little scenario.

As an attorney, I can tell you that it is a job like everyone else, to support your family. But it is also one that comes with some pressure just like others. Most of us want to prevail and win cases, and there is more to it than just the money.

You did not understand my statement or I did not make it clear enough. Referring to the the interview(s) by authorities prior to any action being taken by the DA. One of the previous posters statements seem to state that AJ never talked with anybody and got indicted.

I know this is easy for me to say but his best play if he was falsely accused would be to publicly forgive her and move on.

I believe, from a PR standpoint, that would say a lot about him and might resurrect his status in the league.

EFFF THAT.

If I was AJ and found innocent in this, I would do everything in my power to see that B burned at the stake.

It is possible that the prosecution is pushing the Johnson case first to force him into testifying against Williams. They may offer an extremely reduced charge to get him on their side. They could even offer to help him in his quest to play in the NFL.

Indicted is very very very far from found guilty. They use evidence that hasn't even been vetted as true or legitimate to indict.

Changing subjects ... Brittany Jackson is the commentator on the Missouri vs. Bammer women's game that is on TV now. Does a fair job, she has the Tennessee accent.

From an academic standpoint, how does one prove that "a lot of rape" doesn't get reported? If the only way to track an event is by evidence that the event occurred, and reporting is that evidence, where do these numbers come from?

I'm asking because I am a law student and observer of the criminal justice system. I find this stuff terrifying yet fascinating.

At some point I had read one of these reports that suggested that most rapes/sex crimes on a college campus go unreported and the way that was determined (if memory serves) was with a survey that asked college girls something to the effect of "have you, or anyone you know, been a victim of rape or sexual assault" and "did you report it."

Now consider that for a second. If I have been raped, and I have 20 friends who know I had been either by hearsay or by me telling them, that is 21 people who could answer that question yes for only one actual event. Even if that ratio is 4 to 1, it's still terribly inflated. I would just really like to know how these numbers are created.

I can say that the book "The System" discusses athlete sex crimes in some detail. Interestingly it cited a study that said of reported incidents on division 1 college campuses, 19% of these crimes were committed by 3% of the male population. That 3% are the male athletes. That is astounding.

Also the book referenced studies that showed athletes were far more likely to be indicted for that crime than the general population but also far less likely to be convicted. It's interesting, terrible, stuff.

I don't really understand how they can indict someone that has physical proof (The texts) that this was consensual? Can someone that knows the law try and explain this situation a little more clearly.

Though I hate taking this stance, since it makes me look like the usual sleaze bag fan that supports players that did awful things (Candy fans), but I'm thinking this chick is pushing this only because she doesn't want to admit to lying to begin with. A lie snow ball that has compounded until it was an avalanche in other words.

Her allegations beg questions. Why not call for help, scream at the top of her lungs or make a big commotion? There were a lot of people who could have come to her aid.

Why not fight like hell? There were no defensive wounds or signs of physical injury.

Why not get free and run away? The police report stated there were no weapons involved.

So an athlete, strong and fit, in top physical condition was allegedly raped in an apartment full of people, but did not scream for help or otherwise arouse attention, showed no visible signs of injury and told police there were no weapons or force involved? She wasn’t passed out or detained, since she left shortly afterward and drove home. So logically, how did whatever happened happen?
