A lot of chatter I'm hearing about Clay Helton.

Clay Helton also has familiarity in TN and as he coached in Memphis for 10 years. First, as their RB's coach for 3 years and then 7 years as their OC and QB's coach. He has a tons of ties with Memphis and Nashville High Schools in recruiting as well.

Imo money would be the issue. Hart is not paying a million plus more for the coordinators than last year.

Does anyone know if Helton would like to get away from Sarkisian since he was held over by him?

Just wondering if there is the possibility for any friction there?

How about this scenario?...Don't know if it's realistic but say we promote Azzani to OC and he keeps coaching WRs...hire Debord for one of the QC positions and let him help Azzani game plan and institute scheme...Sheridan to QB coach...Elder or Gillespie to Recruiting Coordinator...EVERYONE gets a nice raise. Azzani starts building a HC resume but doesn't get thrown out of the boat to learn swimming...Debord gets away from javelins and doesn't have to recruit...lots of promotions and less butthurt among assistants? Not sexy but a 7 rated girl with beer goggles.

Sounds pretty good except DeBord is a swan dive man.

I have seen in the past where Peyton said he watched film with Chavis before and "picked" his brain as to what he was thinking in certain situations or on some plays. Just Peyton being thorough. Why he is the best or certainly in the top 2 or 3 to ever play the game at his position.

While I can see Peyton doing that Cutcliffe was without a doubt "his" coach. Peyton probably tried to schedule meeting and film sessions with anybody that he thought could make him smarter and better. He is just cerebral that way.

I think dude was just drunk, trolling, or drunk trolling. :loco:

Just looked at Helton's bio. Would be a direct plug into the coaching vacancy: OC and QB coach. Very good experience at a high level of play. Former QB. Son of a coach. Bald.

Count me in!

Awful fast decision if his interview was only today. Plus the 800k salary is a consideration. I guess it's possible Sark and him don't get along or perhaps he prefers TN to the west coast but I doubt anything comes out of this one.

Oh yeah, I agree. I'm just saying this is probably where that dude got this idea. To say Chavis "coached" him is a bit of a leap. Not only was he not his actual coach he was not even a second or third coach to him. But Peyton himself did mention those film sessions so I figure they did happen.

Wow! If he made a lateral move from USCw, then there must be something going on behind the scenes there that we will not know about. I think we would have to ante up more money to Jancek to keep him happy, considering his body of work last year, unless Jancek is the one going to take the CMU job. I will be interested to see how Butch handles everything, if this is his choice.

I don't think it matters. Hart saw the improvement UT made with a budget staff. I doubt he just kicks open the checkbook with this hire. Hart paying 500 grand plus more for EACH coordinator than they did last year is unlikely IMO.

Maybe. Hart has a lot more to lose if Butch makes the wrong hire though, so does UT athletics. We are also in A LOT better shape financially than we were when Butch was hired. I don't see it happening but I could see why it could though.

Sark sucks and won't be at USC at the end of the decade. I'd find this a bizarre move as well, but I could at least understand it.

Stay with me here.

I think the longer this hire takes (past NSD) the more likely there is going to be a pretty significant offensive staff shake up.

Let's say we bring in a guy like Matt Canada (my favorite for a while now) and make him OC and QB's coach. I think it is very likely after that Azzani decides to take the CMU job and takes Mahoney with him.

Then Butch brings Debord in as the OL coach and Canada brings over his WR coach from NC St. or someone else he'd like to have on staff.

You wait till after NSD to not rattle any cages with recruiting at our school or at the school the OC is coming from.

Any thoughts that something like this could go down? Or is everyone still thinking Debord and everyone stays pat?

I like this scenario a lot. After reading Canada's profile he fits great in Butch's offense. Obviously being a QB coach is huge. And he's not that expensive at all. DeBord can take over Mahoney without question. If Azzani goes, why blame him, it's a HC opportunity.

There's some other OC's that are very qualified, yet very expensive. Canada seems to make the most sense so far. Interesting how it's all going to turn out..

I like the idea of hiring Helton because he is 1-0 in head coaching experience. He coached the Troy-boys in the Las Vegas bowl when Kiffy was fired and Orgeron left. If Butch got sick or something and needed a fill in coach then Helton and Coach Strip could wrestle for it.

Drafting Guys Over 60
This is funny & obviously written by a Former Soldier...

New Direction for any war: Send Service Vets over 60!

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some ******* that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-*****.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50...in menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes??
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!
I'm 46 and spent 20 active duty and with all due respect your argument is absurd. The military needs more youth than soldiers our age. Contrary to what you may think after 20 years our bodies break down. I can't run two miles in 9/10 minutes no matter how hard I try. The body is not the same. This is a young mans game with soldiers who are older having the experience to lead those young men. Another misnomer of yours is that soldiers do not spend their time thinking about sex. It's disingenuous to make a statement based off something you assume but don't know. An 18/19 year old recruit is just as dedicated to serve his country than me or you at our age. I've trained them. We have a strong military with good soldiers of all ages and gender. Hoowah!
PS MY corny response. It's sarcasm.

Hubbs reported just a few days ago that money will not be an issue for this hire.

The SECN has changed the landscape of coaches salaries in the SEC forever.

I've posted it more than once on here....

Every school makes more TV money each year than Texas and Notre Dame.

After 2 days of me saying I'm not buying it, Hubbs was quoted saying Norvell was out because of money.

Helton would be nice and he is a team player that can fit into different systems. He knows the area. I wouldn't plan on it though. It's pretty obvious we are getting Debord.
