I'm older than DeBord and might have a few more hairs on my head than he does but I'm proud to still be alive to read all the crying by the young whipper-snappers. I can only hope that when you get as old as DeBord that people don't want you kicked in the face like some are doing him. What goes around comes around.

I know, it's a message board and it's supposed to work like this. :)

Drafting Guys Over 60
This is funny & obviously written by a Former Soldier...

New Direction for any war: Send Service Vets over 60!

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some ******* that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-*****.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50...in menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes??
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!

You bring up a good point. I think there's a difference for most of us between supporting a hire unconditionally and supporting a coach one he's hired.

This.

I am going to remind myself not to get upset when whoever it is calls bubble screens and jet sweeps back to back for half the game. It's just part of Butch's process, bricky brick, etc.

I have grown to like positive change in my old age. Incestuous coaching relationships concern me - there is a very clear history of warnings about it from our recent past. When I hear the head coach say it is an opportunity to get better, yet, with the first shot this leader goes with a comfortable fit - I do not like it. However, I will get over it and support whoever it is until he's had time to prove himself worthy or not.

Hubbs on 104.5 if someone can give an update about the OC. At work and can't listen

Nothing new really. Debord still the leader in the clubhouse but nothing is done at this point. There are probably 4-5 names on the short list.

He didn't mention any other names specifically, which leads me to believe there isn't a close second at this point.

I guess the mobile version hates me then...

but I use it anyway. :)

I have an iPhone and the mobile version would always log me out. But, I found a little trick that has worked so far. I follow the VolNation twitter account. So, I go to the Twitter app on my phone, go to the list of accounts I'm following, and click on VolNation. In their header section, there is a link to volnation.com. I click on that, and it takes me to the desktop homepage. Once I go into a thread or forum, though, it uses mobile version and I'm still logged in.

I realize that may seem like a lot, but it really only takes a few seconds.

While I agree with you, I would think that now more than ever would be ideal time to squeeze that money out of donors. With the talent here and coming in plus the rest of the east being in flux, Hart could say we are on the cusp of great things but we need pay our OCs like the rest of the SEC. Everyone is so starved for a championship, I think they would donate the money.

As pointed out before, CJJ makes 480 grand a year. Either Butch has to plan on bumping him to A million or more, or hire a guy who will be making around what John will be making after his raise. That is where I got the 600 I've continued to mention. I just don't see that happening. You don't more than double a guy's pay, unless you must keep him and others are trying to steal him away. Going from 480 to 600 IMO keeps CJJ very happy. UT met and or exceed expectations this year with its coordinators making 480 a piece. IMO Hart thinks they could take a step forward while sticking around that 600 area.

Good Morning, Gentlemen!

Thanks to everyone with the pointers on how to stay logged into VN on mobile. I got the issue fixed. I had never paid any attention to the little checkbox in the login area. Duh!

Made me think of this from the good, old Simpsons.

Don't shoot the messenger, but MGoBlog, October 2006:

Even though I wrote something along the lines of "this is going to be boring and frustrating and we'll run all day" the day before, I was still surprised and dismayed. Michigan fans have split into two warring groups, one running around declaring Mike DeBord to be the devil, the other dismissing the game as a meaningless blip. Personally? I'm torn.

Mike DeBord does have some pointy-horn qualities about him. The kind of contemptuous gameplan assembled today is one reason we generally lose to some team we shouldn't. Michigan's bizarre strategy when coming up against obviously inferior teams is to run as much as possible, reducing the number of possessions in a game, giving away much of our advantage on offense by being remarkably predictable, and getting ourselves locked in close games. While the strategy reduces the chances of disaster but increases the chances said disaster will be fatal instead of annoying. It's dumb.

And don't give me guff about hiding the playbook for Ohio State. The Rosetta Stone to our offense is not a first-down slant. Throwing one will not cause the scales to fall from Tressel's eyes. Also not something to provide guff-like substance about: Mike DeBord's record as offensive coordinator, now something like 41-5 (I cannot be bothered to look it up, since it's a crap stat). DeBord's been OC here for four years and has had the good fortune to coach opposite two of the finest defenses in Michigan history. He's a pitcher who gets 8 runs a game from his offense: his win-loss record is virtually meaningless. If he didn't have a gaudy record it would be conclusive proof that he is inept.

This was in the middle of the last great Carr season, too. (11-0 start)

Stay with me here.

I think the longer this hire takes (past NSD) the more likely there is going to be a pretty significant offensive staff shake up.

Let's say we bring in a guy like Matt Canada (my favorite for a while now) and make him OC and QB's coach. I think it is very likely after that Azzani decides to take the CMU job and takes Mahoney with him.

Then Butch brings Debord in as the OL coach and Canada brings over his WR coach from NC St. or someone else he'd like to have on staff.

You wait till after NSD to not rattle any cages with recruiting at our school or at the school the OC is coming from.

Any thoughts that something like this could go down? Or is everyone still thinking Debord and everyone stays pat?

How about this scenario?...Don't know if it's realistic but say we promote Azzani to OC and he keeps coaching WRs...hire Debord for one of the QC positions and let him help Azzani game plan and institute scheme...Sheridan to QB coach...Elder or Gillespie to Recruiting Coordinator...EVERYONE gets a nice raise. Azzani starts building a HC resume but doesn't get thrown out of the boat to learn swimming...Debord gets away from javelins and doesn't have to recruit...lots of promotions and less butthurt among assistants? Not sexy but a 7 rated girl with beer goggles.

If I am CZA and am offered the CM job, I want to know Butch's intentions right then. I would not want to wait till after NSD as turning my focus to the CM roster asap would be very important with NSD approaching. Jmo
