Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Such a "sky is falling" mentality when there is speculation of hiring a guy that VN doesn't find a "splash hire" or fit what YOU are looking for. Never mind what the head coach, who spends everyday with the kids, staff, recruits wants. He has paved an amazing road so far so why do we doubt his vision and who he has in mind to be a part of it.
VN would rather make arguments to fit their agenda like he hasn't been employed since 2007. When was the last time Gruden was "employed" but you would have jumped on him and his absence from coaching would have been absolutely ok. Give it a rest and let the big boys do their job and steer the ship.

Apparently people here would judge how fast a car can go by the paint job.

Q: "Ooh, that's a perty car, I love dem racing stripes, and chrome wheels, I bet she's fast. Did you win Daytona?

A: "Uh, sir, that's a golf cart."

Rather than hiring the old ugly, bald guy with decades of coaching experience at all levels of football... Butch needs to find a young, stylish, pretty guy because metrosexuals make the best top assistants.

At CM, Debord was HC, CBJ was OC, and CMB was qb coach. If anything Debord most likely taught them the basics of this system. CBJ then tweeked it when he spent time with RichRod, then CMB joined CBJ at CM as OC.

Maybe...my overall point is this...teaching players the terminology is huge, it's a building block and a stumbling block.

For instance, I see the guys from TCU getting a lot of mentions. One of two things would have to happen. They would have to be willing to learn OUR terminology to implement the TCU offense OR they would have to teach OUR players the TCU terminology for a lot of concepts that look very similar. It's time consuming.

Wait! You're telling me that Gruden is also an "out of touch dinosaur." He is only 5 years younger than Debord, and hasn't coached in 6 years, which is 3 times longer than Debord has been off the sidelines. Has Gruden at least run an offense newer than the single wing?

No matter who CBJ decides to hire, I'll reserve judgement until it's proven out one way or another. He gets paid to know football and I don't, but if this is his hire I won't be too excited.

Let me ask you a few questions.

First, are you happy with the job Butch has done, especially in recruiting? If not, why?

If you answered yes, did you predict that Butch would have performed that we'll when he was hired?

If you are happy with Butch, but didn't predict you would be when he was hired, what would lead you to believe your ability to predict the future quality of coaching/recruiting is better now than then?

Now may I ask you a question?
Who would you pick and why. Some stats to back up your opinion would be helpful.
Saying I default to Butch is acceptable but not very contributory in the debate.

Might as well bring in Phil for OC. He won as an OC and HC, plus he can just drive in for the interview.

CBJ is going to use his terminology and his base offense. New coach will be the one learning the new terms and introducing new wrinkles (package plays, etc).

Best Coaching staff in America! Thought Butch was quoted saying he was "humbled" at the interest that has been generated about the position.... guess that means humbled that no one wanted to come here.... if DeBord is all we can get, we are in big trouble and will look like a pack of idiots.... but I got flamed in another thread for just speaking the truth none of the sunshine pumpers want to hear.... Oh well, take DeBord and see how that works out for you... folks got pissed every game at Baj and his play calling... just wait till DeBord steps in! GREAT Recruiter... wait, nevermind. Auburn is opening up the checkbook because they are serious about winning, while UT once again goes bargain basement shopping and will settle for mediocre results.... and will then complain about it... you get what you pay for and we are about to actually go backwards....

Stating "see how that works out for you" instead of us.............not a real fan even if you do have season tickets because you just like to piss and moan and probably did the same when CPF would lose two games a year after winning a NC...........you probably said the same thing when Jones was hired............but you will wave your pom pom while getting your panties adjusted by someone with an orange dog when UT wins the east in the next three years

There is some chatter out there that Debord may be consulting with CBJ about the OC hire. Would be consistent with his role as a mentor for Butch. No clue if this is true or just people trying to find positive spin.

Makes sense - Hey, what are you doing on VN?

That's what I'm trying to say, obviously not doing a very good job of it. :)

There's a certain amount of "football jargon" that would be shared by a guy like DeBord.

I wondered if that was possibly what was happening. Then a bunch of Knoxville media outlets be like... he gonna be the coach and chit.
