Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

It is a great hire. He is the Butch's main mentor, went 52-11 as Michigan's OC, and he would solve our Oline problems instantly. The only problem is who's going to coach QBs. When he was not in college, he was in the NFL.

Maybe he is going to drop a position coach such as the OL coach to get a QB coach?

Butch needs to hire an up and comer. I hate to say this but Urban Meyer is especially good at evaluating assistants and coordinators.

I don't think he had any ties with Tom Herman, but looked what happened at Ohio St.

I'm normally not a nega, but honestly this one makes my stomach turn.. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but friggin KENTUCKY landed the OC from WV.. Yes, Kentucky !!

We can do better than DeBord.. This would be a potentially catastrophic error on the ultra conservative side IMO...

Butch's unwillingness to go even one step outside his comfort zone is going to be the reason he doesn't get UT all the way back.

Coaching TEs. He hasn't been an OL coach since 2008.... and in 2008 he was an "assistant OL coach".

The Raiders just hired Sal Sunseri. Do you want him back?

And isn't dooley in the nfl?
Just because someone hires them for the pros does not mean they are great college coaches.
If they were equivalent then saban would be here in miami.
The games are different. The qb play is different. Recruiting is also a part. This argument really is not applicable.

I'd be fine with getting Mahoney to hit the trails and having DeBord take over as OL.

OL isn't OC.

The only way I see this working is if he comes in as Co-OC (in title only) and takes either interior OL and Mahoney takes Tackles (Chaney/Cregg did this in 2009 and Chaney/Pittman did this also) that's fine. Give Azzani OC and playcalling duties.

We still lack a QB coach and that's still a problem.

I don't disagree with your thoughts, I'd like them to go after several other OC's but...we don't know the whole story here with regards to Debord. There could be any number of reasons he took some time off from coaching, not that I pretend to have any info.

Would make no sense. What I've read suggests his position coaching has consisted of OL and TE. We already have coaches for those positions. Who coaches QBs if this is the hire? Being an OC doesn't mean you're a good QB coach. This guy just isn't a good fit to the puzzle.

He's coached QB'S before.

Even when he was coaching, his position affiliation spells out, in bold letters, a declining coach.

Just like when looking at Sunseri's resume before being a DC at UT, then DC at UT, then after you say "ah, yeah, so that's why he was never a DC".

I think the reason why we may have to go w/ DeBord because other candidates might have discussed that they would want to bring in one of their own guys.
