Most of current recruits were 3-4 years old the last time he was of relevance.
No!
Not just no but heck no!
Better candidates for bajakian level pay!

This guy hasn't been in the college coaching since like forever. You hire your ex-boss? That's not a good sign IMO. Also this proves that CBJ never had many contacts/relationships with up and coming coaches. Or he is EXTEMELY biased and not open. He's hiring what fits with him on a personal level, not professionally.

He was OC at Michigan in the late 90s. The game has changed since then.

He was also the OC at UM in 2006-07...Carr's last two years. In 2006 he brought in Alex Gibbs (a leading zone blocking specialist/NFL OL Coach) to teach he and the staff and UM went to the zone blocking scheme. He's spent the majority of his career as an OL Coach and it's no secret that's our weakness going into next year.

I'm not sold on the guy, but we could do worse I suppose.

I'm not trying to say this guy is a perfect hire. All I'm trying to do is say that this hire wouldn't Kill us. Everyone is bashing Butch right now and the guy hasn't even been hired yet. I'd appreciate it if there wasn't smart comments being made for me trying to stay positive. Every offenssive coordinator hire is a risk especially when you hire a guy who has been out of the game so long. I'm just trying to stay positive is all. Azzani would be the guy I'd want, but I'm just trying to keep an open mind.

Debord was the one who taught Butch his current offense. He's Butch's mentor.

Exactly. If Debord is the best Butch can do then just promote Azzani. Hiring Debord will cause us to lose recruits we cannot afford to lose like Preston Williams.

Lol wtf? Why would Williams not play for Debord?

And why is Debord not a great hire in your opinion?

DeBord is also being pursued by NFL teams at the current time.. Yeah obviously a horrible choice. A guy who NFL teams want doesn't belong at Tennessee. Hell no.. Amirite??

I doubt any of us want to be successful more than Butch does. He has a lot more riding on this hire than we do. Do you really think he is going to do something stupid? CALM DOWN!!

It is a great hire. He is the Butch's main mentor, went 52-11 as Michigan's OC, and he would solve our Oline problems instantly. The only problem is who's going to coach QBs. When he was not in college, he was in the NFL.

I'd be fine with getting Mahoney to hit the trails and having DeBord take over as OL.

OL isn't OC.

The only way I see this working is if he comes in as Co-OC (in title only) and takes either interior OL and Mahoney takes Tackles (Chaney/Cregg did this in 2009 and Chaney/Pittman did this also) that's fine. Give Azzani OC and playcalling duties.

We still lack a QB coach and that's still a problem.

Dream is DeBoard for OL coach and Rod Smith or Magee as OC. Wow that would be awesome. I just don't enough about DeBoard.
