Like I said this reminds me of Kevin Mouhon last year. The kid starts getting indecisive and once he starts taking visits he risks losing his spot. What I love about this staff is they wont wait around on someone like that. If they can fill his spot with an equal or better guy he'll be dropped because of his decision to start visiting other schools.

Yep and sounds like Strong is pulling his South Fla weight around. I think the staff realizes they here is a kid we were on early and have had committed for a long time and all of sudden Strong swoops in late and makes him wishy washy in a short time. That paints a grim picture for long term and you have to protect yourself by going hard after linebackers again.

If be curious to see what starts happening with Sapp/Kirkland/ Atkinson now

Agree completely.

I like this approach as well. Recruiting is a two-way street. Both side's commitment is in direct relation to the other side. What happens if we aren't careful is you let things play out, they jump ship and you fill the spot with someone who won't ever play. Dooley seemed to experience that A LOT.

That little d bag Jalen Ramsey did it to kiffin without notice at usc. It's honestly the only thing he's ever done since I first read about him that I have liked.

Charlie Strong was on the air last week in Austin and talked about how the Longhorns brand was diluted or weakened and wasn't the same as it was at the start of 21st century. I didn't understand why he did this and thought it was stupid. Maybe something to do with their new JD/MBA AD's marketing plan or rebranding of the program.

I went to the WVU-Texas game last weekend and the Longhorns looked legit. They have two future NFL RB's in Malcolm Brown and J. Gray, both 5 star recruits. Apparently, they lose a lot of defensive talent this year, although D. Santos is a junior and starting at MLB. Hence, Cecil is going to have to wait a year until he has a shot at starting. We lose AJ. I think Cecil could put himself in the 2 deep pretty quickly here.

Sucks but this is the nature of the beast.

Early signing period PLEASE

I'd like to see it as well. IMO it would be much easier for coaches and recruits. Coaches would know which guys/spots are locked in and recruits would know if they are being slow played or at risk of being dropped. If the coaches don't let you sign early, you know what's about to play out.

It's ridiculous that BB and FB can have different rules about recruiting.

Now CBJ has re- recruit a kid that was a lock for months. Coaches get paid well but that job is tough.

Aka miss your VQ copy/paste. Lol.

But I do agree that Cherry will probably end up elsewhere. I think his size is a concern at Mike LB (around 5'11) and I know his personality has been talked about. Cocky players are great on the field, but there was a story about Cherry calling guys out and being confrontational at The Opening and at camps for not being as strong as him. I don't know the kid, nor have I heard of anything like that happening before or since.... but the coaches may have been turned off by that type of thing as well. I think his short stature is the bigger issue.

By no means does that mean the coaches don't want Cherry, but I truly believe Kirkland is the better take if it's a choice between those two.

I'm not sold that it is. Kirkland has 4 OVs set up and one of them is not to Tennessee. Could UT get the 5th? Maybe. But what that tells me is UT is definitely on the outside looking in at this point. I do think Kirkland would be a reasonable replacement if the staff decides to go that route with Cherry taking visits.

We've benefitted also...our starting QBs probably at Arizona State if there was an early signing period.

Yeah, I'd think the SEC schools would be against an early signing period. Gives us more time to evaluate and flip talent from other conferences.

I think coaches would unanimously agree to it. It allows them to lock up a portion of their class and focus on the season.

I have found several articles discussing early signing periods with SEC coaches. The articles range from "SEC coaches are unanimous" to "Be careful what you wish for".

There was a proposal in May to have a early period the Monday after Thanksgiving. Sumlin acted like he was mad that the coaches voted on it and it just "went away".

Who knows?

Let's go for it. It would certainly make things interesting, that's for sure. Say a school like Tennessee isn't ready to sign a kid, but Arizona State is saying come on down we'll lock you in.

Kirkland wants to visit. He's saving the 5th visit for UT. But right now #s are so tight we can't take 2 MLB. If Kirkland wanted to commit and Cherry continues to look around, it's a no brainer to me.

Cherry is one of my favorite recruits. Kid is a bada$$.
I pray he stays with the vols. Why wouldn't he want to be a part of this defensive squad coming together?
They would be a juggernaut
