With the guys we have coming in on dline and the guys we have developing I could play middle linebacker in this defense.

I hope Cherry sticks, but if say there are plenty of guys out there wanting to get involved with this defense.

Ps- I hate when a recruit starts balances the recruiting act by labeling new offers "dream schools" --that's such a cop out.

There was a proposal in May to have a early period the Monday after Thanksgiving. Sumlin acted like he was mad that the coaches voted on it and it just "went away".

I am for it as long as if Head coach or position coach leaves, he can go to another school. I am not saying he can leave if any other coach leaves though such as coach that recruited him.

The kid is enjoying his life right now and want to enjoy the recruiting process. Let's please just keep encouraging him and let him know he is needed without hounding him. Dude is All Vol but lets not mess it up as a fan base.

I agree and especially so when it's nothing like anything he has said before. He has been committed to Tennessee for 16 months and now he has a seperate "dream" school? Somehow, his feelings have been hurt...either we have not shown him a sufficient amount of love recently or we have let him know that if he does take other visits we will recruit over him.

The fan base didn't call Texas his dream school. If anyone messes his commitment up, it will be him and only him. Butch will replace him. That's what Butch does. The staff and Tennessee fan base were behind Cherry until Cherry started acting shady. That's the bottom line.

This dude is definitely not "All Vol"....Cherry really surprised me. I bought his "VFL" act hook, line and sinker.

Not saying that Cherry won't by a Vol on NSD. Good chance he will especially since Thig is the lead recruiter. Just disappointing that it's come down to all this Texas cr@p because he was the recruit I was least concerned about going elsewhere.

Recruiting is a SOB. A lot goes on behind the scene too, so there's probably more to it. I wish Cherry would shut down his recruitment and remember why he committed to begin with. He's been all about the Vols, actively posting on social media and recruiting for us. It's crazy, but that's recruiting.

But I do agree that Cherry will probably end up elsewhere. I think his size is a concern at Mike LB (around 5'11) and I know his personality has been talked about. Cocky players are great on the field, but there was a story about Cherry calling guys out and being confrontational at The Opening and at camps for not being as strong as him. I don't know the kid, nor have I heard of anything like that happening before or since.... but the coaches may have been turned off by that type of thing as well. I think his short stature is the bigger issue.

Neither. Just made comments about Texas being his dream team. And suggested while he is "committed", he's not sure where he is going to sign come NSD. Can't whiff on the MLB position with AJ leaving, so the coaches are doing what they are supposed to do to make sure that doesn't happen. I think most on here hope Cherry signs with the Vols.

Look for Sapp to be mentioned a little more soon. Also, watch for us to go all out on one of DeBerry or Walker, Walker the most likely. I think if all else fails, Smith can bulk up and play MLB. He's really good in coverage, but he'd need a few years to gain the needed weight to play MLB. If we can keep Taylor and land one of Walker/DeBerry/Sapp we will be fine at LB IMO. I think Griffin can play WLB if need be. I think Smith can bulk up and play MLB, and I think Walker/Sapp/DeBerry/Taylor all possess the ability to play SLB. Not an ideal situation, but not a deal breaker either. Plus, we still have Bryant, Bynum, and JJ who can play MLB by committee. Nothing to lose sleep over IMO. Now LT, that's something to worry about going forward.
