'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Cecil the Diesel is my favorite recruit and we need him. He is a hard hitter and we need him to be the cherry on top of this class. C'mon Cecil be a VFL on our Rise to the Top program.

Thanks. :banghead2: Trying not to be too negative, but when a kid is taking all his visits, referring to another school as his "dream school" and he's going to tell everyone where he's going on NSD I think it's reasonable to be at least a little worried.

Said he grew up a texas fan, but Tennessee is in the SEC. Butch Jones is building the program.

Basic summary of what he said
I think there is a huge difference between saying he grew up a Texas fan and his actual quote. "Believe it or not Texas is my dream school."

He has been one of my favorite recruits. I hope he's a Vol in the end and just enjoying the only chance he has in his life to do something like this.

Wasn't he our first 2015 commit?

I'm super positive but that was concerning ...sounds way more hyped for Strong and Austin than us...same feel as Lambert last year "Oh I'm still committed but..."

Ain't nobody worried about TX poaching our recruits. Cherry is a legacy and will be a VOL on NSD. Grown men getting so emotionally invested in the ebb and flow of teenager is very disconcerting. I would expect this from my pre-teen daughter, but not grown men. IF he does decide to leave, I am sure CBJ can AND will replace him with someone that wants to be here. One recruit will not break this class.

With TX about to start giving it's players 10 grand, maybe it's a bit of a concern. I hope we can hold onto Cherry. I think Kirkland is no where near a UT lean at this point. JMO

Has Cherry been given permission to take look around? If so, does that have to do with Kirkland?

I don't know that he's been 'given permission' but he and Tennessee have talked about it. I'll be interested to see if he really does visit more schools because Tennessee can tell Kirkland, who I've been told really wants to visit Tennessee, to come on and 'we have a spot for you.' There are still a few other linebackers out there, too.

Sounds like Cherry ends up elsewhere. I really wanted him in orange but that's recruiting. Fort also mentioned that he could see a few current commits not signing. Silly season coming up!

As Paul just said on VQ I doubt this has anything to do with TN encouraging him to take visits. This is more like the Kevin Mouhon situation last year. The players ups and decides to start taking visits and in the process risks losing his spot at TN. I wont be surprised at all if he loses his spot in the next month or so even if he doesn't decommit. One thing this staff doesn't do is sit back and let kids visit all over the place late in the game and hold a spot for them (unless they are truly elite).

Post more Swanson. Miss your insight and positivity. :good!:

More from Fortenberry...

Like I said this reminds me of Kevin Mouhon last year. The kid starts getting indecisive and once he starts taking visits he risks losing his spot. What I love about this staff is they wont wait around on someone like that. If they can fill his spot with an equal or better guy he'll be dropped because of his decision to start visiting other schools.

I hate it but Jones has to fill the spot and if Cherry isn't 100% in then likely he won't have spot. Kirkland helps us with Newsome as well. Jones built last years class off connections and legacies. I think the connections angle will come into play with this class as well.

Imagine that, discussion of a long time committed recruit ensues when he is quoted that we are not, in fact, his dream school. In the recruiting forum, of all places.

I don't recall anyone saying they didn't trust CBJ to fill the spot or that Cherry leaving would "break this class".

Just trying to help out, I dont have time to read pages of discussion. I didn't see it in the two pages I read lol (140-142)
Just givin' ya a hard time :eek:k:

I agree. MLB is a huge need in this class and when you have your committed guy all of a sudden open again this late in the process, you need to start looking at other options immediately and recruit the position like you have an open spot. The good thing with Kirkland is that he's visited before and there is apparently a connection between him at TN that should help.
