Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

Congratulations.
You have achieved the single most important thing that 90% of VN posters hope for, to be right. It's not about the team. It's not about winning or losing on the playing field. It's all about being able to come on a message board and crow about being right. You have done it! You have reached the pinnacle of your existence! You are officially right!

I am sure that this a big moment in your life.

No longer a rumor....Butch Jones says Ferguson is no longer a part of the team....

"Redshirt freshman quarterback Riley Ferguson isn't expected to be a member of Tennessee's football team this season, coach Butch Jones told the News Sentinel on Tuesday."

"As of right now, based on our recent conversations, we do not anticipate that he will be a member of our football family moving forward," Jones said.

Sure, I was/am a Riley fan.
The only difference between myself and most others around here is the fact that I am a fan of all players that are on the team.

best of luck RF...after all the hype, was looking forward to seeing you earning and getting game reps. Hopefully we will get to see you play somewhere. Go Vols! Go RF!

This thread of a rumor got started with false speculation about Riley Ferguson not playing due to grades. I guess somebody heard something and had to rush out there to stir up the VN pot.

So after several hours, we learn the rumor has legs but it is not for the reason that was originally posted.

Frankly, it is inevitable that one of the four quarterbacks would have left UT. I was just happy that we had four. I was also willing just to let the competition play itself out and wait to see who the best man would be. I didn't really care which one of the four guys started next year but expect him to be the best qualified. Personally, I like all four of them and feel like any one of the four, as persons, could represent UT well. I don't understand sometimes how posters know each of these players so well that they know the motivation and thinking of what is going on in these kid's heads to be able to judge them so harshly.

I appreciate what Riley has done. He is a fine young man and I wish him every success. I am disappointed to see him go.

I don't know much about Mike Wegzyn except he is a UT quarterback and will get more scrutiny from VN. Since he became a Vol, by default, I hope he succeeds in a big, big way.

So to Riley, I say good luck and I hope you will take a few fond memories of Rocky Top with you.

Show me where I ever said that I didn't LIKE Riley. I simply said that he's in last place, and transfer bound.

Have fun watching him at MTSU.

So Doyle has anyone confirmed Riley had started shopping out of this magazine recently?

Must have missed you playing on the field at some point in the recent past for UT, to "KNOW" you could beat our guys out. Unless that has happened and you are somebody that actually played at this level you don't "KNOW" anything. I have no doubt that you have the ability to throw a better ball than a lot of what we saw last year, hell I can too, but unless you were in that situation its a little presumptuous to say you could start for our Vols. And throwing isn't all of it either, otherwise Bray would have been one of the best things to grace the field. But I don't know you maybe you could, can't wait to see you dress out and issue one of the biggest "I told you so's" on the internet ever. I will eat plenty of crow. :twocents:

You don't know who you're talking to.

Brandon Stewart did the same in the spring of '95

Best of luck to Riley - wherever he ends up. Hopefully he can help us in the future the same way Stewart did (beat K State in BIG 12 CG) to create a "win and you're in" scenario for '98 Vols

Wow this is surprising. Also amazing that neither channel 6 or channel 10 mentioned it on their 6 o'clock Sports report tonight... What time did it become official?

Too many posters are concentrating on the back story here...was it this, was it that.

The bottom line, and I mean bottom line is that IF Riley had been #2, he would have stayed. There is nothing else here to concentrate on, to speculate about, etc., other than he knew that he was beaten out by Dobbs. If he had beaten out Dobbs, he'd still be here.

If you've played, you know that feeling that you get when the coach has made his decision, and it's not you. It's the other guy. Riley felt that feeling, didn't think he could change Butch's mind, and decided he'd be better off at another school.

It's just that simple.
