BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

David Climer has said basically the same thing that I just stated above.......

Not a good example. Climer is anti-Tennessee.

Do schools usually have a press conference over contract extensions? Seems pointless.

Occasionally, but I have never seen an "We're about to sign a contract extension sometime soon" press conference.

I'm assuming it would be like a weigh in to a fight or something.

That's what I was thinking. Why have a press conference for a coach that is already here. What are you going to say, "I'd like to introduce to you the guy who was already coach and you've talked to a lot already"?

Did Fulmer or Pearl get press conferences for contract extensions? I honestly don't remember.

I don't remember one.

I think a press release is appropriate. Recruits weren't going to jump ship during a 24 hour span and I'm sure the staff has been in contact with them.

Also I wouldn't go so far as to say Climer is anti-Tennessee as he is pro-negative crap. Like Travis, he jumps on negativity with UT when bad stuff is happening, but when they win, he does a 180.

A great example is he was one of if not the biggest Manning critic in the known universe. He would constantly harp on Manning not beating Florida and not winning "the big one", even interjecting it into columns that had nothing to with UT or Manning. After Manning won the Super Bowl in 06, he pretty much never brought it up again; well until the Broncos lost to the Ravens last year, and this year in the Super Bowl, but even then couldn't deny dude had an amazing season.

It's always a press release.

Thought so. I believe a press conference would add credibility to the other job, making it seem like we had to lure him back. Even if that did happen im not sure you present it that way. JMO.

To me, ALWAYS jumping on the negative makes him anti Tennessee.

Definitely, I was just curious as to why it hasn't been completed yet.

Idk. I think Hart made an initial offer, Zo went and interviewed with Marquette and they probably made an offer as well. When Martin came back late Sunday, Hart and Martin met multiple times Monday, even late into the night around 11pm.

I'm guessing that Hart may have said what's it gonna take to keep you and the two sides were able to find a middle ground. That's all jmo

When we see the details of the new contract that'll tell us more of who did what type of stuff, if that makes sense.

How bout a press conference where Cuonzo brings out Stokes and Rhett who both announce they are playing for UT next season, while a sweet16 banner is raised. Then Cuonzo drops mic and exits. Too much?

I agree BZ - I think this is far from over. It would not surprise me to hear/see CCM's name tossed around in connection with other jobs if for no other reason to try to leverage Tennessee if in fact he even wants to be here, which I doubt. It is business after all.

Well then.

I hope people don't act like jackasses if he decides to stay. The guy has never done anything to embarrass the university and his players keep their nose clean for the most part. If he comes back, he deserves our support until he proves otherwise. Time will tell.

They can't help themselves. They are what they are.

Or Marquette wasn't interested after his interview...

Marquette is a mess itself right now. Buzz Williams got out and wanted to get out. I like Martin but not his in game coaching. But, he may have went and saw for himself what a mess it is and decided to stay. If he can parlay his run to get great players then he can be successful here. I hope it happens and he grows as a coach. If he can get talent, he will be ok. I wanted him gone after a and mbut after this run we will be better to give him his shot.

well according to the some of the posters, the program needs stability and this whole mess has hurt recruiting and so on and so forth and the fans are to blame.

my point is that you would think that the pr/media people in the athletic dept would try to use this to bolster the program and foster some good will. the whole CCM to marquette thing was all over sports media. a wise and adept pr - media relations dept would try to capitalize on the media frenzy.

can anyone on this board deny that it there has been division in the fan base? it would seem like a great opportunity for CCM and Hart to try to foster more good will between CCM and the fan base as a whole and to attempt to endear CCM to the entire fan base. most will agree that CCM has not shown himself to be an extrovert. i think that the fan base wants to see more of CCM and more of his personality and emotion.

regardless of what some on this board want to label me - a critic, a negavol, etc etc..... i am passionate about the Tennessee Volunteers. I would like to see CCM have passion and love for this program......maybe that's not possible as i understand the business aspect of college coaching but you have to admit that it would be nice to see. i like the passion i saw from CCM that I saw during the NCAAT - i want to see that all the time.....but that's just me....

i think CBJ loves all things UT - i dont see that from CCM.

flame away if you must.
